The "Third-Worlding" of America
I think I remember Pat Buchanan coining the term many years back. Back then, even before his presidential runs, people scoffed at the idea. Today, as we seem to follow Argentina's path to oblivion, it doesn't seem so far fetched.
Truly, I see no way out of this. Even if there were a coup, I have no faith that anyone more reasonable than who we currently have will emerge. We've allowed the bureaucrats to ensnare us in a world of red tape and legal maneuvering that we can't extract ourselves from. Our country is run by lawyers pretending to be politicians and we foot the bill. The majority of the populace is a stupid as a box of rocks and will never understand what's going on - even after it's complete.
The intelligent ones, like Dr. Paul, are shouted down at the council fires and we, his followers, are too few in number to make anything happen. We strain and stretch and always come up short. That is the way it has always been.
We are left scattered and demoralized which is exactly where the powers that be want people like us.
We are in free fall now as a nation and the crowds are cheering rather than panicking. They feel it is just some sort of 'money problem' and the government, blessed Obama, will fix it. I see a depression of biblical proportions coming. Not only an economic depression but a cultural and moral one as well. I fear we will see things in this country we have not seen in hundreds of years as they turn us one against the other. Even those who recognize the manipulation will have no alternative but to defend.
The next war will be between the haves and the have-nots. By the 'haves' I don't mean the billionaire club types. The Kennedies will be safe. So will the Rockefellers. You and I will be the 'haves' because we had the forethought to put a little aside for a rainy day. The 'have-nots' are the ones who didn't. They are the 'Katrina-class' ... those who are poor and have stayed poor and yet are able to reproduce in great quantity. You've seen what happens when they can no longer be 'kept'... when the food runs out.... when the gov't cheese isn't delivered. They will get it from wherever they can. That means your house.
Do you think the state will protect you and yours? Highly unlikely. Instead, Blackwater mercenaries will be hired to relive you of your firearms and excess food (for the betterment of society, mind you) and leave you to the tender mercy of the 'have-nots'.
So, lets stop dwelling on the price of gold or whether we're feeling inflation or deflation and start coming together as a group in order to preserve and protect ourselves as best we can in the coming crisis.
I don't think we'll skate past this on like we did in the Y2K nonsense.
Keep the faith
and continue to educate your family, friends and people you meet. Do not teach them more than they can handle. Plant the seeds and give them nutrition when needed. In over 30 years in the "liberty" movement, I have never seen the issues we are concerned about more out in the open than they are today. But we need to keep teaching people. As the coming economic storm grows stronger, more and more people will be looking for answers as the political establishment becomes more discredited.

True, there may be more talk about liberty... there was even talk of liberty and the constitution during the republican 'debates' when they saw RP getting applause for it. The problem is there's too much talk, too much confusion, too much disinformation.
In your 30 years in the liberty movement, have you seen a situation as bad as the one we're in? Have you seen any progress other than talk in that time? Have you seen anything other than a steady decline of America?
I'm all for a positive attitude but 'chin up' doesn't cut it anymore. We just elected a possible foreign national to the highest office in the country where he will bring his communist beliefs to the fore. The watchdog press thinks he's just the "bee's knees" and haven't asked him a question tougher than the spelling of his Muslim name. How do you see this breaking in our favor or are you adopting the Red China mentality... wait them out, they'll get tired and leave?

I'm not saying anyone on this thread is wrong, be aware, be prepared, as I'm sure you all are, but for the moment, lighten up and cheer up, we still got it pretty good for time being so enjoy it while you still can. It seems as if the sheeple want to wait for you to break down and then you become one of them. As my dad always says: "Dare to be different!".
So.... what do we do? How do we organize?
I've quit trying to convince people to be ready to fend for themselves. others seem to be catching on. It is not coincidence that freeze-dried food is difficult to buy in bulk and ammo is getting harder to find. My neighbor directly to my rear has about 3 cords of wood in his yard.... He's never had more than a night's worth of wood before...and he would usually sneak that from my woodpile behind my garage.
This is the same neighbor who told me I was foolish to store gasoline and that hoarding only contributes to the problem. So, while the message isn't totally lost out there, it is difficult and time-consuming and my time is better server elsewhere at this point. I've been trying to get my good friend to buy a rifle or shotgun for years now. He just won't do it. I have to come to the realization that many will be lost... even some who have prepared.
What do WE do to stay safe? As a group I mean. How can we form some sort of union to pull together in 'tough times'? There was no meetup group around here. Someone tried once but I think I was the only response. Are we that scattered?

Its not too late to get armed. Whatever fabulous new gun laws are coming down the pike, its not too late NOW.
Find yourself a mom and pop sporting goods store, and get yourself some (or just one) "long guns", by which I mean a rifle or a shotgun.
Purchasing a pistol is a lengthier process, more involved. But you should be able to aquire a long gun without much hassle.
Find yourself a cool place (skip Dicks, unless you have no other choice), tell the salesperson about your concerns. You can get a mossberg 12ga. shotty for about $300.00. Good home defense weapon.
Your fate is only decided if you wait until its too late, and right now it isnt. I think the clock is ticking, I would even argue that we are in the eleventh hour.
From what I understand, the cost of ammo is going up every single week. Ask about the laws for your state.
Be prepared. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

As anyone who owns a gun knows...
..BUYING a gun does not solve your problems. There is a learning curve to consider as well. You will need to put several hundred, if not thousand, rounds through whatever you buy in order to get comfortable with it.
A gun without the know-how to use it is more of a liability than an asset..

But for a family man, trying to protect his wife and kids during impending lawlessness and food riots, Ill take my chances on the learning curve, rather than leaving myself at the mercy of the stampeding "have-nots".
It takes a foolish man to leave the saftey and protection of his family to "law enforcement" during times of lawlessness. Some of the people that might be coming to take what is his might be wearing badges. Look at the cops that looted during Katrina.
That was the only point I was trying to make.
Gun saftey is up to the owner in question. How you defend your life and the lives of your family is up to you.
The reason I don't have a gun.
I don't have a gun because I've got two teenaged boys. One already is a gun crazy and after me to buy one every day. That I could deal with. He's fairly responsible. The other son is very hot headed and is not real emotionally stable. He'll get really upset and talk about killing people and such. He's not a bad kid, just needs to learn how to handle things better, which he IS doing. I just don't think a gun is a real good idea unless I bought it in secret or something. They've both attended NRA shotgun camp for a couple of weeks in the summer for a couple of years, so they're familar with handling a gun-more than I am. If I bought a gun I, I think I would want a hand gun.

I think this is a valid concern with gun ownership. If you have someone living with you who is not emotionally stable and is impulsive, then it's probably better not to have a gun around-don't you think?

i can relate to what you said as i too have 2 boys and was also shocked when i was 10 at the death of my cousin because he and a friend were playing with daddys gun(they were 8 and 7) i swore i would never own a gun and low and behold if i didn't hook up with a hunter and my whole life changed. my suggestion, if you care to get a gun, instead of being afraid of what might happen, instead, take your boys to the shooting range with you- kind of a family event- as this teaches them and you gun safety and exhibits to them the trust you have in them both. if you don't want to take them, consider finding someone you trust to do so. this has done wonders for my family and has transformed my angry boy as his anger stemmed from feeling helpless, he is now feeling mature and confident- NOT because of the gun, but because someone(in this case my lover) took the time to show and teach him something which in turn gave him someone to talk to. I swear i never would have thought this until i saw it with my own eyes, but being responsible with a gun has proven to be a success with my 12 year old. and, by the way, we started with bow and arrow, then b.b. gun...

If you have money saved, get ready to buy
If anyone has a significant savings, say in the $50,000 range, get ready to buy in a few years. Put your wealth into something stable - and who knows what that should be? I've heard gold, but it might be good to diversify a bit into other real wealth things like commodities.
When the economy tanks and we enter a depression type of state, property will become cheap. You could buy a cabin or house for a fraction of what it was worth. The tough times can be seen as an investment opportunity for those who have saved diligently.
On the flip side, those crooks who absconded trillions of dollars from the Federal Treasury will also be able to use that illegal wealth to buy up OUR cheap property. So it's obviously not a morally fair situation that is coming up.

Don't be naive. Don't believe that our worst enemies will be those who are poor and have been for quite some time. They will not be our worse enemies. Our worst enemies will be our neighbors, no matter what color. The ones who voted for Obama or McCain and laughed at your Ron Paul sign. The ones who lived on credit and relied on their government job for security. The ones who didn't have a penny saved and lived on fast food, not even knowing how to boil water. The ones who have never had to go without and never had a problem that a credit card couldn't solve. The ones who have never, ever missed a meal.

There is no doubt that there are many 'have-nots' ...
...in our own neighborhoods. I never meant to insinuate trouble would only come from a distance. Middle and upper class families are more reserved though, and will wait longer before becoming desperate. Those closer to the street are faster to react to such things.
There are many empty stores in my town.. yet, no rioting or looting. Things may not be so good but the home invasions and such things are happening in the poorer communities, not here (yet).
So, definitely watch your back as you watch your front.

Thats key. Thats the only way to defeat America, and they know it. Im afraid they are going to pull the rug out from underneath America, and let it auto-cannibalize.
After that goes on for a while (how long?), then they come in and clean up the mess. And theyll use the "mess' as justification and proof that the old ways didnt work, proof that our consitution failed (when in reality in was subverted).
What follows, what will be established in this country, will not be America.
