Urbana IL Paulers Succeed on Transparency- Mayor Blows a Gasket.
Laurel Lunt Prussing, Mayor of Urbana fought tooth-and-nail against a local coalition of Greens, Libertarians, and Ron Paulers who have been working for transparency in local government. The "firm impassioned stress" of these Pilgrims beating a path to City Council for the past ten months, many letters to the editor, many phone calls, did finally pay off this past Monday in the passage of a resolution insuring transparency is part of policy in the city of Urbana. Many thanks to all who helped.
The response of the mayor at the Committee of the Whole meeting on the previous Monday was described by some observers as a "Meltdown", but there is no evidence of any Dorothy spilling water on her, but apparently Dianna Visek's kind words made Prussing as mad as a wet hen.

At the city council meeting last Monday, a resolution in favour of publishing of the comprehensive city budget on the internet passed by a simple voice vote!
The Mayor of Urbana, Laurel Lunt Prussing has vigourously opposed transparency through many statements, political manoeuvres, letters to the editor and other artifices. Prussing recently spoke out against transparency at the previous meeting of the committee of the whole. She criticised those of us who have worked so hard to get this measure past and went into a emotional state of near melt-down.

the video has been seen about 500 times
In most states of the US, and in Australia, Spain, UK, Germany, Sweden and Canada. People continue to find it.
all you need to do is show
all you need to do is show up really. This is awesome wish the video continued though..did they pass it right then?
the whole original video segment was 25 minutes - had to be cut.
That meeting was the "committee of the whole" which evaluates proposed rules and then decides what to do with them. they decided at the meeting on the video to amend the resolution in a minor way and it passed 4 to 3 in a roll call vote. On the following week (last monday), it passed the city council session by a simple voice vote.
The continuous uncut stream I selected and annotated for YouTube was the most interesting part. I just gave enough of Dianna's remarks to provide a contextual intro for the Mayor's remarks.
By the way, the video has been viewed over 400 times now and there have been many positive remarks coming back. Only 2 people, local supporters of the Mayor, have provided negative feedback on the video.

Many of the Greens who supported Transparency are in the IMC but there are some supporters of the Mayor there too. There are some negative comments from some anonymous guy over there who seems to have a gripe against RP supporters.
Rust never sleeps. We will have our work cut out for us in our next battles.

NICE WORK!!!!
thanks for sharing the FABULOUS news!
Sharing an email from Robert Vaughn, a liberty leader for sure!
I believe some of the finer highlights . . . in becoming active, is meeting our local, dedicated, unselfish and brave persons who should be guiding freedom in a republic. We can spawn great leaders and send them out into the world, instead of spawning military. I mean, the leaders we are looking for exist.
Let's help them, and those to come in the future.
And now, I humbly submit this email sent to me by just such a man,
Robert Vaughn.
Greetings
I can be contacted through the campaign for liberty site robert_vaughn or robertwvaughn@verizon.net this address should be used for really important information only Please do not send or forward stories.
I spend about 6 hours a day staying on top of the world and national news not including my other sources that feed me info.
I am moving my efforts into local issues. If there is a campaign you would like help in I am willing to do what I can but I am sure most of you are not longer wet behind the ears. I currently live in the 26th congressional district. I am asking that all of you this next time around run for office in the central committee in your area. Pick a party and change it from the bottom up because it is at the base that the real power is. It is time to grow our ranks even more than ever because we only have about 4 years to do it.
I hope that you get involved and either work on or run for some kind of office in your areas. My family has been in California for 5 generations now and helped build this country well before 1776 I have a great love and passion for this country & state. Though not perfect it has been good to many people and I would hate for it to descend into something more like Stalin’s USSR or Mao’s China .
Do not wait there are time limits in California . Becoming a “decline to state” voters is nothing more than marginalizing your power
Lets hope that it is not too late….Bless you and thank you all.

PS: On December 6th the Los Angeles County Republican Party central committee had it meeting to elect it officers.
It was out with the old and in with the new. , Connie Ruffley and Roger Eshleman got elected to the board I am the 2nd chairperson on the board as well. Connie and Roger are the secretaries. As well as getting about 20 others constitution supporters on the committee as well.
Our largest battle right now is going to be raising money and getting people elected to be taken seriously. We are now in the position to really change the party and the direction of Los Angeles County politics. And if we change it here the rest will follow suit.
So let’s keep moving forward to victory

Re-election
She is up for re-election on April 7, 2009. If we can get a liberty-minded candidate to run up against her, I pledge $100 right now. Let's sock it to this nut.
I am running for alderman as a libertarian (new party in Urbana)
in my ward. There is a chip-in on my web page at http://www.liberty4urbana.com. There are no other libertarians running for office in Urbana. I voted for Chuck Baldwin (Constitution Party) for president. Since the constitution party has no standing at all here, I am going with the Libertarian party, although they have never had a local candidate until now.
My neighbor Durl Kruse who is a Green, is running against Prussing who is a Dem.. I am supporting Durl for Mayor. The Greens are an established party here and some of them supported Dr. Paul. The Greens turned out and helped us with Transparency. The local GOP did not even lift a finger to help, but 3 of the local GOP party hacks did turn out and vote with the mayor against some election reform issues we wanted to present to the people as a referendum.
To run as a new party candidate one needs at least 5 times as many signatures as the established parties, but the GOP brand is so damaged here that I am running as a L even though I am a former GOP precinct committeeman.
Hero's amoung us.
Those with this kind of vision and moral conscious.
And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”

It's the message that inspires.

Thanks to everyone for your interest in Transparency.
Just a small example as to how elected public servants think.
Most once they are elected think they have to answer to no one. Great job making the mayor realize she isn't the final word!
there are more battles ahead
and she is Not Pleased.

Organization is the key and works..
Good work..
you are right
tenacity is important too.
During the last thirty years, the real estate bubble begins . .
Local officials lay the ground work for terrorism . . . AND WE MUST CHANGE THIS BLIND PATH.
They are arrogant and believe to be sapplings of the tree of nobility. They are only saps and their kind of nobility has no respect for nature. Here in California, it was the local city planners, developers and real estate associations which disregard the rule of law, and the proposals for quality of life wrtitten by the people. I still say, we can lay all of our problems on the door step of illegal immigration. (the first stage in terrroism)
And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”
Great work
