"Here's the good news from California's continuing budget impasse: Wage-earning, tax-paying residents are moving out! Okay, this is not good for California. But it's great for the other states these Californians will now call home.
Back here in California, let me just give you a quick update: nothing. The state budget gap continues to grow $1.2 million a day, it's topped $15 billion, we'll be out of money by February, and while the Governor has continued to negotiate with state Democratic leaders, there's still no deal.

The statewide furlough has many folks on the Central Coast feeling the pain.Employees at state offices like the DMV and Caltrans are affected by the twice monthly unpaid Fridays, a disruption that will last for the next year and a half.
For weeks now, state employees knew this day would come.
"The governor proclaimed an executive order last December," said Wendy O'Halloran, a Caltrans employee since 1983.
A mandatory furlough order was officially kicked into high gear Friday, and customers felt it. At the DMV office in San Luis Obispo, frustrated customers could be seen leaving after locked doors and posted signs told of the closure.
"It's kind of disappointing, the fact that we don't have money to keep it open," said Matt Korn, a San Luis Obispo resident.

Yep, I escaped from CA in
Yep, I escaped from CA in 1999 after 40+ years -- one of the best things I've ever done. Left increasingly crime infested Anaheim, the smog, taxes, traffic, etc.
I now live at 5,500 ft. in the Sierra Nevada foothills between Reno, NV and Lake Tahoe, drink mountain spring water (no chemicals added) from the well in my backyard, breathe real air with a hint of natural pine fragrance, look out my window at the ski runs (14 min drive from my house), yet can be anywhere in Reno in 10 to 20 minutes. Oh... no income tax either.
The invasion from the south is becoming more evident in Reno than it was when I first arrived here, but my area is still fine -- certainly nothing like much of Orange County, CA.
Still 1/2 hr from the beach.... except it's Lake Tahoe instead of Huntington.
As the hawk flies (no crows, killer bees, etc. here) it's about 10 miles from my place to the CA border, but it feels more like a million.
BTW, the KFI radio show referenced above (John & Ken) was great... I guess there is one thing I do miss.
Well... I did find that there was some gunfire at my daughter's high school. But, unlike Anaheim, it was the school rifle team practicing in their indoor range. My daughter shot first string varsity in her senior year, and her team finished 2nd in the state. Nearly every afternoon during the season I drove to her school and carried her rifle, ammo, etc. from the parking lot, through the hallways full of students, to the practice range. No hassles, no SWAT team... try that in CA!
Several of the best shooters came from my neighborhood. Not much crime at all around here. Hmmmm....
It isn't perfect, but what a difference!
