Anyone have to bite their tongue chatting with family over holidays?

Any conversations come up with you all over the holidays with family members who still believe all our problems are Republican vs Democrat?

Did anyone get called a "conspiracy theorist" by a family member - blood-related or not?

Nah

Bit my tongue. It's feeling better. :)

people were much more

people were much more receptive

We had a great Christmas...with few exceptions.

Of course you all know that I am from Podunk Oklahoma, and that is exactly how I like it. :O) 99% of my family also lives somewhere within 20 miles of "Podunk", so we are very like minded creatures. I would like to share one observation that seems to be mentioned several times below.

When discussing the issues at hand, I don't necessarily have any crazy Ron Paul supporters other than my immediate family...as in wife and kids. BUT when it comes to the issues we care about, my family is very awake and aware to what is happening within the Government, and I must say that most of my family is armed to the teeth, well stocked in food items, zero debt, immune to propaganda, and most raise cattle as a second income. These are all traits that we learned from my Grandparents...never trust the Government..take care of yourself and those around you...prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.

But you know who will be blindsided by the coming events? EVERYONE in my family who has graduated from College. EVERY single one of those jokers think they are "Scholars of Worldly Knowledge". Here I am...got moved up from the 6th to the 7th grade....a 16 year old Senior who joined the Marine Corps, and then couldn't manage to sit through public university classes long enough to get graded. (The Beach volleyball court was constantly whispering my name) Well the two semesters that I finished I did carry a 3.75 gpa.....of course I took classes like Greek and Roman History..you know things that were important to me.

OK...back to the point. All these Yayhoo's who get a Rockefeller directed public University education are screwed. Every one of them think they have it figured out...or even worse are completely oblivious to what is happening in the world. They don't think the CFR even exist! How stinking hard would it be to research the CFR?!! Not to mention the Burgers and UN sponsored groups. But NOOOOO...Government is good, Government takes care of its citizens, and government will protect us from those Muslamic Terrawrist.

I always knew that a public university education didn't fit me, but I wasn't sure why exactly. Now I see what these people have become and I'm so glad that my life has turned out the way it has. Depending on myself, my faith, my family, and ACTUAL HISTORY, I am much smarter, more prepared, and a better human being than those "Scholars" that surround me.

Please understand that this isn't a rant against Degree's, and truly I wish that I had finished mine at a liberty loving college. I am simply seeing first hand that a whole lot of people come out of College being dumber than rocks when it comes to what is important in life. They may be more intelligent in the ways that Rockefeller wanted them to be, but that is exactly the point. Thank God I depend on my family and like minded people like you guys to get me through the day.

Love it!

And I have an undergraduate degree and a master degree--and I couldn't agree with you more!

During my wife's...

...Christmas party/dinner for her work at a restaurant, a co-worker's husband whom I've never met made mention of something political, and as I inhaled to speak a reaction, my wife quickly intervened! "Don't get him started!", she hollered. Sadly, she feels as though the time I spend here on DP and researching and learning is wasted time; "there's nothing you can do about any of it...don't waste your time with all that Ron Paul crap!".
Other than that, I was able to make a co-worker start re-thinking the ways of the world. She is nearly done with her schooling as an accountant.

"The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them." - Patrick Henry

My Brother-n-law is a scholar...

He is completely blind to things that are occurring around him. He is the protector of my sister and two children, and that is what angers me so when I try to carry on any type of conversation about reality with him. His responses are always the same "Santa Claus is in my back yard giving Big Foot a bath with the water hose" he says, when I start talking of anything relevant. I sent him an email detailing McCain’s meeting where he stated he would use the military like the Iraqi surge in crime riddled areas. His response was that Big Foot was grilling in his back yard, and my response was for him to talk to Big Foot and see if he will be able to provide food for his family in a time a need, but he has no clue what is happening with the economy. He graduated with a business degree from a highly prestigious college in the South, so he immediately thinks he is smarter (if not better) than most people, and since I am a simple engineer he feels that his 4 years is greater than my technical schooling. It is amazing that he is more than likely still paying off education loans, and yet can be so simple minded about the economy and politics in general, but these people are the ones we are trying to convince, and with very little luck.
My co-workers who have been close friends for over 30 years also do not care what happens politically unless it directly affects their pay checks, and perhaps they are the smart ones. They realize the level of corruption and feel powerless, so their apathetic to doing anything to force change. I have made sure they are aware, and truly impressed them with information I have garnered from the Dailypaul as well as Dr. Paul himself that has come to fruition.
I still have faith in our military to do the right thing when the time comes, but the N.W.O. is busy training our young men and women in uniform to identify and target any and all that attempt to use the constitution as protection against a martial law scenario. This is truly sickening, and the thing that makes it so terrible is that people we all know have zero clue as to what the next 2 years will hold. Many who have worked their entire lives will be ruined by the corruption of a tiny minority of criminals that have hijacked the U.S. House and Senate, as well as the White House for over 8 years.

In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.

People who immediately

People who immediately resort to ridicule are afraid to engage in real debate and running their media programing. I would continually challenge him in that way. Tell him something like; whats the matter why do you always resort to ridicule are you afraid your overpriced education you're still making payments on might have been a waste? Prove me wrong if your so superior in your knowledge instead of acting like a 3rd grader who can only ridicule that which he doesn't understand.

He is obviously arrogant in his supposed superior knowledge so start chipping away at that. Hit him where it hurts take the fight to him stop playing his game and start playing yours. Normally I would not bother with people like him however as you said your concerned for your sister and the children. So get him out of his comfort zone and beat him up a little. Also might try educating your sister.

This is not a surprise, as

This is not a surprise, as when you hit higher education, it's Keynes Keynes Keynes and nothing else. If you're lucky, Smith and Friedman will be brushed over for 10 minutes in the very first lecture.

I have an uncle and great

I have an uncle and great uncle that aren't necessarily awake to the RP movement, but are VERY aware of some of the same things I am. Government propaganda, media control, social issues, etc. I all see eye-to-eye on with them. I am lucky to have these people to talk to, because everyone else is basically blank when it comes to these issues.

Not much discussion of politics

I have two married daughters. One is urban, and one is rural. My urban daughter and her husband held their noses and voted for Obama, because they feared McCain would place anti-abortion Justices on the Supreme Court. This was after they voted for Ron Paul in the primary and even contributed to him. My rural daughter and her husband voted for McCain because they feared Obama would place anti-2nd amendment Justices on the Supreme Court, and they disliked Obama more than McCain.

There was not any Obama/McCain political discussion, but my rural son-in-law, and I did talk about the possibility of civil war coming out of the economic mess within the next decade or two. His business brings him into contact with farmers, and he tells me that there is already lots of discontent in the heartland, and that people he talks to are really scared of the economy.

One interesting thing he did tell me was that one customer he deals with has a son who is in the Secret Service in Washington and that this son tell his dad that there is great fear that attempts will be made on Obama from a suicide bomber. Supposedly there have already been more credible threats than for all other prior Presidents combined.

"The deepest sin against the human mind is to believe things without evidence." Thomas H. Huxley

I had some heated discussions and got pissed off a few times

But lol they will hear it till they capitulate...
I will not bite my tongue

I Discussed

Economics with one of my uncle-In laws. He minored in Austrian econ. I lit him up with the things I learned here. The look on his face. Priceless.

That's beautiful

Hopefully he's not a "one trick pony". If he knows anything about Austrian economics hopefully he's already started down the road of full awareness.

I try to keep it on the down

I try to keep it on the down low - my family is well aware of how passionate I get about politics. Mom and I talked a little bit about Warren Buffet, Obama, Dr. Paul and campaign funds.

My Grandfather (81) is in the know, big time, and - a Dr. Paul fan to boot. You name it, we can talk about it, Bretton Woods, income taxes, fiat money, the Fed, the financial crisis, FDR, bail-out buffoonery, education, the worthless media or the Constitution; the only draw back comes at the end, when he always says with a shrug, well whatcha gonna do...

My Boyfriend and I started to watch Rules of Engagement with my step-sister but her Father snipped at us to turn it off. Feathers ruffled and the word Nazi was uttered as my guy exited from the door.

Ah, Christmas with family.... =)

No... I have learned to that when in person to only talk about

things we agree on or to make jokes and have pleasant conversation.

Watch movies, star trek reruns. Maybe that makes me passive / aggressive online?

your 'creed' sounds collectivist...

Where do you get off saying that it's the 'Ron Paul revolution creed'? That's just not right.

Have you joined the Zionist Troll League like you said you were going to do yesterday?

Common Interests

Collective action alone does not a collectivist make. When my car gets stuck in the mud, I want help pushing it out, and I want coordinated help, so that everybody involved pushes in the same direction. This does not make me a collectivist, it simply shows that I am aware that some jobs are bigger than one man.

One_Louv did not ask for my help, but if I may be so presumptuous, I believe that the "One Credo" to which (s)he refers is that common factor that brings us here in the first place.

One love -- of liberty
one purpose -- of liberation
one living inspiration and focus -- The Good Doctor

I am as sensitive to collectivism as the next anarcho-materialist, but I am able to recognize the efficacy of seeking common purpose with like minded people.

I had to put up with all the

I had to put up with all the Obama's gonna save us all crap. Barf. But I didn't bite my tongue. My old friend that just got recalled to the army was with us, and hem was the only other one in the group of maybe 10 that didn't worship Obama. He brought up to me about how disturbing it is that all the people adore him, and suggested everyone will get pictures of him in their house like Tutu, Jong-ll and Hussein. Then one of them was talking about how Reagan was supposedly a great communicator, but all he was was talk, and I said, just like Obama, and my sister told me to shut up. What a communicator she is! Her and dumb Obama t-shirt every day of the holidays. Blecht!

good vibes...

we attended one dinner and gave two. the people we spent time with were family and friends ages 29 to 82 and pleasantly we were all on the same page when it came to talk concerning the government. at one dinner there were new friends who had originally come from chile and commented that they found it odd that the american people took such little interest in their government and stated that in their home town in chile everyone talked politics during and after dinner. it was just part of their way of life. my 82 year old aunt knows that we have gotten the shaft but has much more interest now that she has purchased a computer. gotta love someone who is in her 80s and decides to learn how to use the internet because she wants to know what is going on in the country and knows she isn't going to get the truth from the media. i was very pleased with the content of the conversation as it allowed me to know that people are paying attention and they are pissed.

I had to really bite my tounge

My grandparents were pretty hardcore rebulican mccainwashed people who just happen to be of jewish heritage. I have tried mentioning that 9/11 was an inside job and his response was, "So 9/11 didn't happen?" so I figure I should just let it go. It did seem that he finally thinks that both McCain and Obama were bad, though.

I talked politics with my country club brother-in-law. I discovered something scary--it's too easy to talk politics with Republicans now. All you have to do is brush aside the War on Terror crapola, and talk about how awful it will be to live under Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama. (Which it will be.)

Ugh... yes! My husbands

Ugh... yes! My husbands grandmother says casually that the Obama Citizenship case actually made it to the Supreme Court not 3 minutes into everyone sitting down to eat.

A few people got up real quick and took their plates into the living room to finish or excused themselves to smoke a cig. I stayed around biting my tounge and sort of glad that I wasn't the attackee on something political for once.

.

My relatives found out that we're Ron Paul supporters when they drove up and saw the sign in our yard and the bumper stickers on our cars last year! My cousin's son told me that he's one, also! This year, I gave him The Revolution: A Manifesto. I couldn't part with my autographed copy, so I gave him the copy that I'd read and written comments in!! My uncle is a big Ron Paul fan, but he said that he's too old to run in 2012. I didn't say anything, but I thought to myself that he shouldn't compare himself to Ron Paul; Ron's in a lot better shape than him! My uncle's had a stroke, he's overweight, and he's two years older than him. Here's a shocker - I was explaining how the Ron Paul supporters are trying to bring the GOP back to its conservative roots and outnumber the neocons, and my other cousin's husband, who works for the city's newspaper, said he doesn't know what a neocon is (!!!)

My police officer brother chewed

my head off when I started up with my talks. They will soon see.

The R3volution requires action, not observation!!!!

Bit it

chewed it up and briefley spit it out. Even gave em a eh hitler when they told me you need to do something else with your time there is nothing you can do about it. happy holidays..... ;p*

Yeah, Been there done that.

Yeah, Been there done that.

Don't get me wrong

I was the hostess and it was all in kind until an abrupt rude comment by my father in law and i made my hitler comment in jest.(if thats possible) OK I was bad after them spending an hour without my prompting or input bitching about the economy ect... blah blah.. I try to tell them that is why we have been trying to be involved and try to change the direction of the country. Then he blows off at me with how i should stay out of things there is nothing I can do I said thats the attitude that got us in this mess! Screwed up huh? They are ignorant old (underline ignorant) country folk and I suppose it is useless anyway. My problem with them is they are nosey and if they get wind that we did something "political" I have to catch a bunch of crap. To top it all of they wanted me tothrow my well behaved dogs out and told me I should never let them in the house. Thank God thats over. On to the new year!
Believe it or not I do love these people. I just have to admit they pluck my last nerve. This last year is the first time I've let them know it.

ummm

yes, yes, and yes.

and my tongue still hurts!

thanks for reminding me of all my sleeping family members!
