Kucinich criticizes Israel; wants U.N. probe
Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) is calling for a United Nations investigation into Israel’s attacks on Gaza, criticizing Israel for a disproportionate response to Hamas rocket attacks.
The criticism stands in stark contrast to the statements of other Democrats, who have offered near-unanimous support for Israel amid the latest violence in the Middle East.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and other Democrats have blamed Hamas for the violence, which has left more than 300 people in Gaza dead. One person in Israel has been killed by a Hamas rocket.
Kucinich likened the Israeli attacks on Gaza to its war with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon in 2006. In both cases, he said, civilian populations were attacked and “countless innocents” were killed or injured.
“All this was, and is, disproportionate, indiscriminate mass violence in violation of international law,” Kucinich said in a statement. “Israel is not exempt from international law and must be held accountable.”
Pelosi and other Democrats have refrained from criticizing Israel’s government, which has responded to the Hamas attacks with a rocket assault on Gaza.

Peace.
The only thing i don't like about Kucinich
is that he keeps calling America a democracy. For that reason i don't trust him.
Heheh
I dunno if that's a reason to not trust the guy, but it's one of my pet peeves too.
But but butt...
...Israel is our best ally!
Why... without Israel as an ally the US would....
well...the US couldn't... uh?
Hmmmmm?
Does my burka make my butt look fatwa?
Does my burka make my butt look fatwa?
Cheers to any politician who
Cheers to any politician who derides Israel for their actions, with all of that taxpayer money they are receiving they should be much better examples of "democracy"!
It's true that we should all be agreeing that support of either side by our country is wrong, wrong, wrong.
Why our country supports Israel is beyond me unless I delve into conspiracy territory. Otherwise it makes no sense!
Think of it like this:
Imagine the Lutheran Church(LC) wanted it's own state. The LC provides proof that the state of Montana was once where it all began, so to speak, and that they want it back. So then the US decides to help the LC take over the state of Montana. LC wants everyone out except for a few small designated areas. The people of Montana form a resistance. The resistance fights back. The US govt then praises the LC for protecting itself against the invaders(former Montana residents). Both sides get support in someway from the US government, but mostly the LC, which gets the top pick on weaponry as well as the most money. Bloodshed ensues. All because the LC feels itself entitled to this land, and no other.
Which side do you support?
Why does ANY religion deserve its own land? They are RELIGIONS! They are myth-- open to interpretation, and most of them support peace, ostensibly.
This is a real NO-BRAINER here, don't miss your opportunity to see the big picture, folks. The Hamas are no angels, but Israel does NOT deserve one INCH of support from ANYONE in this country who claims to be and/or support the US.
Period.

Okay I'll take a stab at this....
Alright if this is within my own country here is how I would respond:
Fist off when the Lutheran church came calling I'd laugh, thank them for the jovial interlude to my otherwise boring day, and then politely show them the proper way to exit. If they went to war against the state of Montana, then I would call up the national guard and quickly stomp out their leaders....easily moving to a trial for treason....and then hanging or shooting them for crimes against our country. All members would be allowed to continue their faith and not subjugated to any form of discrimination. I would warn them that they may not want to move to Montana though.
In a situation outside of our country and beyond the true field of our control, I would maintain neutrality unless conflict spills over into my countries borders.
In the case of Israel I say our government has played to big of a part in that country already and thus we should cut our protective and supportive ties....create neutrality....and let her people either save or destroy themselves. If they want American aide get in line to become an American citizen (and I'm not spouting dual citizenship) where that can be given. Not that I support massive immigration, but that's another can of worms....Lol.
My mother's grandparents were both born in Ireland, my ancestors lost their traditional lands to the British because they refused to convert. Honestly I have no clue as to what it was like to loose all that you ever owned, stripped of your roots, and left in poverty. It must have been terrible to face an empire baring down on them- because many were willing to die for kin and country. Many innocents died on both sides caught in the crossfire of greed by those controlled and clung to a land that was stolen. Its the same song everywhere..... will my family ever receive back my ancestors lands or reparations for their acquisition? Of course not.
Do I acknowledge Israel's claim to the land that they sit on?......Until someone takes it from them. Yes. Do I agree with how they acquired it? No. Do I support them in their efforts to keep it........Its none of my affair or responsibility to make that call. They will be until they are not. America as a country should not make any effort to give them anything.
Do I acknowledge Palestine's plight? Yes. Do I agree they have call to oppose Israel? Yes, in the sense that they are not, by any means innocent of terrorism. My philosophy is when an aggressor throws a punch slug him- and if you can't beat him in a fight outwit him through some other means to subjugate him.
If a group of Americans feel inclined to support either country.....fine. Go to the country which you feel supportive, give them money or fight with them. Or if you feel they have been wronged create a public forum take it to the U.N. if you want. Just do all of it outside the confines of the United States Government... because we are (or should be) a neutral country with no allegiance but to ourselves and no alliance to any nation!
Sancho: Your example is poor!
You forgot to mention that the people in the LC in your poor example were led into the gas chambers, tortured, and starved to dealth by the millions for the years just prior to their being given a place to call their home, which they occupied thousands of years before and was promised to them by the Almighty.
Why did you omit that part?
As I said before, please find your master Don Quixote.

Israel has illegally occupied Gaza and have sanctions against it....
Starving out the people, shutting off electricity and not allowing any medicine in....this is nothing short of Genecide....it is quite sick...so who is defending themselves?

UN official: israeli sanctions 'illegal, indiscriminate and profoundly inhumane'
Maybe he's an anti-semite.
On the other hand, maybe he's honest . . .
Gaza Reality - Would you be able to live like this?
A senior United Nations official has issued an unprecedented appeal to British MPs to use their influence to try to alleviate the impact of "indiscriminate" and "illegal" Israeli sanctions in Gaza which display "profound inhumanity" and are "serving the agenda of extremists".
In one of the strongest attacks on recent Israeli strategy issued by a senior international official, John Ging, Gaza's director of operations for the refugee agency UNRWA, said that "crushing sanctions" imposed since the Israeli cabinet declared the Strip a "hostile entity" in September had contributed to "truly appalling living conditions."
Mr Ging said the measures had been justified as protection from what he fully acknowledged were rocket attacks "terrorising" the Israeli civilian population within range. The rockets have killed two people this year and injured 99 others. But citing cuts in fuel and planned cuts in electricity along with closures which have had "an atrocious" impact on Palestinian medical care, "destroyed" Gaza's economy and threatened already "Third World" water and sanitation, he told the Britain-Palestine group of MPs: "This presupposes that the civilian population are somehow more capable of stopping the rocket fire than the powerful military of the occupying power.
"My message ... is that not only are these sanctions not working, but because of their profound inhumanity, they are counterproductive to their stated purpose and while Gaza is not yet an entity populated by people hostile to their neighbour, it inevitably will be if the current approach of collective punitive sanctions continues."
Mr Ging, whose agency is responsible for 70 per cent of Gaza's 1.5 million population, said that over the past two years "every hopeful opportunity has been irrationally dashed and followed by even worse circumstances". He added that Gaza's civilian population expected more of Israel and the international community, who regularly expressed concern about their humanitarian plight but "to no avail".
Mr Ging, whose message is reinforced by a letter warning of the "increasingly desperate situation" in Gaza from major aid agencies in today's Independent, said 649 Palestinians had been killed this year, including 63 children. The figure includes more than 330 killed in internal fighting.
Mr Ging added that UNRWA was unable to provide more than 61 per cent of the necessary calories to refugees. "At present we do not have sufficient funding to provide just one high nutrient biscuit to 200,000 children in UN schools."
Israeli officials cite signs of a decline in Hamas's popularity as evidence that the sanctions are working. But Mr Ging said the "human suffering and misery for the entire civilian population in Gaza was creating fertile ground for the extremists".
The Israeli branch of Physicians for Human Rights says that 11 patients have died since last month because their treatment was blocked or delayed. At least 800 more are being denied treatment abroad.
Good show, israel.
Tell us again what a kind, and gentile democracy you are - so that the whole world can know that you are not only heartless barbarians, but also bald-faced liars.

well
Fortune Favors the Bold
i'm pretty sure the CFL line on this is clear. We( the US government) shouldn't be supporting or criticizing Israel, nor should we be giving them money and weapons.
Fortune Favors the Bold
Understand John.
The aid should be pulled from both sides as Ron has said several times. The only democracy where freedom exists in the middle east is Isreal. There is no easy answer with this issue.
And Rockets Fired Daily On Isreali Civilians is Humane?
Where is all of the outrage with daily missiles sent to Israel? Where was the outrage on Krystal Nacht? It seems that we are one step away from repeating that night of terror.

my point
is that the whole thing is new world order planned.....
it's all Bull Shit....
but in this instance Israel has been illegally occupying Gaza...Not only that they are sanctioning Gaza and the children are freaking starving to death.....(sound familiar) so in retaliation the Palastians are throwing some rockets over which haven't killed anyone...you know, they are defending themselves....against starvation and illegal occupation....
and in return Israel has killed over 500 and injured thousands....
I will not by in to the bull shit that American and Israel can do what ever the shit they want....just wait until america is invaded and occupied and we will see if anyone changes their mind about what self defense is
"and the truth shall make you free"
John 8:32
Understand ggb.
Everything Isreal does is weighted against the backdrop of their history. They know that they cannot lose any war or else all is lost. I believe that they decide issues of to attack or not to attack based on their long history. For us to not be involved is the answer that makes the most sense.
It's all about religion and
It's all about religion and power. Which is a bullshit, brainwashed system!

There are two sides to every story.
I am apalled at the level of hatred on this issue.
Funny, huh? Who are the
Funny, huh? Who are the Brits to say what's right and what's not? I mean, if you recall correctly, it was the Brits who were responsible for creating the state of Israel. They controlled the Mandate of Palestine from 1917 to 1948, when Israel declared its independence.
And This Person Says He Is Pro-Palistinean and Anti-Zionist!!!
I've been actively following the Israel-Palestine issue for a long time. The history behind it is extensive and complex. There must be hundreds of books written about it. Rather than trying to detail that history in one article, let me offer some useful sources of information on the Israel-Palestine issue.
Before saying anything else, LET ME MAKE IT CLEAR THAT I AM PRO-PALISTINEAN AND AGAINST ZIONIISM. I can give you lots of sources of information on both sides; but Palestinians and Israelis are both suspect because of their biases, and I won't refer you to the loads of Zionist propaganda.
http://www.pballes.com/balles14.htm
Please realize that there is racism and hatred in the world especially concerning Isreal.
WHY QUOTE RACISTS ON THE DP?
The land that Isreal occupies is not theirs...the UN is at fault
for all of this misery.
I see that most folks posting here are not very educated as to the reason the conflict exists and continues. Before posting and ranting about "rights" take the time to study the roots of the situation...place it n context with YOUR life and home ( belongings ). Those of you that have posted "pro-Isreal" comments are you saying that you would sit by and allow this militant occupying force to confiscate your property ???
If you owned a farm and the UN came in and stole half of your land and gave it to others...would you sit there and except that ? Well folks the owners ( original occupants ) of the land where Isreal is presently residing are not rolling over either. Hamas are not terrorists...they are freedom fighters. DIG IT ? ... and they have the support of their people ( the rightful owners of the land being occupied by a criminal ( evil ) militant force ) by a huge margin ( reflected in the election of Hamas ).
As Ron Paulers...answer me this. Do people have the right to defend their lands from the UN and the globalist thugs that would take it ?

Not an appropriate post to frontpage
That is, it's not appripriate, unless being anti-Isreal is now part of the DP agenda. I was under the impression that we were suppost to be against the whole UN thing anyway, which is stacked by people that hate Isreal and use the organization to steer away from their own, more severe, human rights abuses.
We don't want to fund Isreal but by the same token, we have to allow them to defend themselves as they see fit. You can agree or disagree with their methods but that is a personal opinion, not one that has any basis to be frontpaged with such a strong slant in either direction.

Or U.S. should stop sending money to Israel and take care of americans and that's an anti-semitic statement.
BS
Why Doesn't He Just Stay Out Of Their Business,
He Doesn't Live There
Besides, WE DON'T NEED THE U.N.! Stop giving them power, stop giving them authority, stop giving them respect!
... ... ...
IF you're a religious person, and, or a person of wise knowledge; the U.N. could be likened unto The Tower Of Babel?
Let's criticize fairly
I suppose since we're on the subject of criticizing the politicians of countries for killing human life, here's a list of governments that have recently and are currently killing other people:
1. American government
2. Israeli government
3. Hamas/Palestinian government
4. Darfur
5. Georgia government
6. Russian government
7. British government
This is all I can think of now. Please feel free to add to the list.
don't forget the UN...they are killing people too....
with their population controls and vaccines they are forcing on 3rd world countries. but they were never elected by anyone for anything...they have no accountability.
2Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Many of those on the list
Many of those on the list are Puppet Govts of America
I would say that those
I would say that those governments are puppets of the Federal Reserve Bank.
Boy, you don't like America very much do you!!
America is a puppet government run by bankers, like most other governments in the world.
