MSNBC.com Live Vote: Would you support increasing the federal gasoline tax by 10 cents a gallon if it went for road maintenance

The obvious answer is NO! Instead of taxing us they should cut down on other wasteful spending such as Iraq and Afghanistan!

Those lunatics in Washington D.C. are really pushing the American people's buttons!

Here's an Idea. Instead of using force, why not make it optional for people to pay an extra $0.10/ gallon for those that want to give it to the politicians. I'd be 100% ok with that.

where am I?

what country? this does not resemble America anymore.

Roads are local responsibility not federal government. the trickle down effect would never happen. Our local governments woudn't see a penny of it.

WHEN ARE WE GOING TO STOP THIS MADNESS?

Hell No

It's meant to go for road repair in the first place.

Gas tax isn't used for roads anyways. That is why our roads are in shambles. Here it is used for education. The idiots citizens don't know that though. Our state budget, merely 1 fillup a year from every family is used on roads, the rest is spend mainly on public school. We rely on the Feds to rebuild our roads.

Yes, It's Aggravating

This is the usual goofy kind of question they ask, loaded as all get-out. How about the money the government has SUPPOSED to have been using for roads all along? Oh, wait, Paulson needs it -- never mind.

A 2 Trillion

Projected ANNUAL deficit beyond tax revenues for 2009, and they can't maintain the roads? 8 trillion in collective bailouts for the plutocrats, and they still can't maintain the roads??

Not just no, HELL NO!

I would if

it would keep foreign countries/corporations from coming over here and buying up the highway system -then charging us tolls to use the roads.

I was actually wondering about that

If foreign corporations bought our roads, would they still be patrolled by domestic terrorists, I mean state police etc? Who would be in charge of 'mobile crime prevention?' And also, if we were still being harassed and ticketed over nonsense, to whom would the revenues go?

No, it'll just be wasted since bureaucrats

aren't guided by market discipline to use money wisely. The roads should be private, or owned by local communities; at least people could watch over expenses and insist on more efficiency, less political payoffs siphoning away the funds.

I wonder

Now 75% no.

I wonder what the % would be for a question such as:
Would you support spending $220 billion each year to maintain roads in America instead of spending that money in Iraq?

ahh..hell no. Government
