Food for Thought: Meet Your Meat
Anyone click on the ad right below Ron Paul's pic on this forum?
It's called Meet Your Meat. See what you're really eating for dinner.

Knowledge is power.
You have an obligation to look under every rock when it concerns what our government is doing to us, other species and the earth.
What are you putting into your body as "food"?
What is entailed in making this "food"?
Go ahead, click on the ad. You have a right to see this world kept hidden from the public eye, reminding you that something is Very Wrong here, that this is beyond acceptable in our "civilized" society so rampant with food-related diseases.
Even if you think all animals (except maybe those we call pets) are just stupid, unfeeling machines that were just put here on earth for the specific purpose of using, abusing and making money off of in whatever way possible; experiment on with toxic chemicals by Big Pharma in the name of "science," and turn into diseased food, you will learn something new, and it just may change your way of thinking.
It might even change your life and health for the better.
Remember, first the animals, then humans. When everything is "owned," freedom ceases.
Then have a little read here about how it's endangering your health:

be awake all patriots.......
and the poor ones.....in winter at least.

I find the "Meet your Meat ( Where they have a photograph of a what looks like someone grilled a 7 blade roast, which is improper cooking methhod and abuse of the meat)" propeganda that employs specisism to collectively divide earthlings, man from animals, as if man is not an animal, as if my animals would not eat me if they were not being fed and I was laying around dead.
That said, the majority of my meals are vegetarian/vegan because I really LOVE vegetables, grains, and to cook, but I would hate to see the day when there would be no meat. No choice. I wanted to share one of my favorite vegan sauces. Back in the 70s when you could find a vegetarian restaurant (I joined the Krishna society at one point back in the days and so I was a vegetarian for years, and we didn't eat onions of mushrooms, other foods were banned..) anyways...back then seemed the big deal was curry vegetables on brown rice. Well check this sauce out on your next bowl of veggies and rice:
1/4 cup raw tahini
2 Tablespoons tamari
2 tablespoons red miso
2 tablespoons lemon juice
water as needed
Wisk first four ingredients in sauce pan over medium heat, add water to thin to consistancy as sauce thickens (do not boil or simmer...simply warm the sauce/gravy)
You can add garlic or other herbs or spices to your taste depending on your veggies, especially leftover veggies! also, adding 1/4 teaspoon of hemp oil completes amino acids.
WE ARE GOING TO WIN!

The real problem here…
…is that these people are so self-righteous about their life style choice that they feel it is their divine duty to come up to someone while they're just trying to eat a burger or chow down a steak, or anything involving animals not being treated like gods, and start telling this person off about their choice of lifestyle. Do we meat eating people do this? Have you ever seen one person kick some vegans bean sprout sandwich out their hand and start yelling about the joys of eating meat… Well, have you?
A persons lifestyle is a personal choice. if the vegan life style was so perfect and amazing, they wouldn't have to advocate it so much. People would just buy in because it looked like it works and that all those veggies were so addicting and delicious. But, they don't and that's because people weren't made to eat just plants. If you personally want to make the sacrifice to eat plants, pond scum and flax seeds, fine. I respect that you have the will power to follow through on that, but just keep it to yourself. When you come and push it on people it doesn't help you, it just builds great resentment toward your cause.
Personally, I think tufuturkey is one of the most disgusting foods on earth. Endless mounds of tasteless, steamed leafy greens cooked without bacon fat (or even butter) is enough to make me vomit my insides out. Ever eat a tufu hot dog? If you have, then I rest my case.
I like fruits, grains, vegetables AND meat. There is NOTHING that will ever substitute for a slow smoked BBQ'd beef brisket. There is nothing that anyone could ever do, say or show me, that would make me want to stop eating meat. Vegetarians/vegans are some of the most irritating fanatics I have ever run into. Do people who eat meat EVER attack vegetarians and vegans for their dietary choices? I say, if one chooses to graze on wheat grass and super green algae smoothies, then knock yourself out and have a great time, but kindly leave the rest of us the F**k alone. I am personally fed up with this thread and the NAZI like fervor in which self righteous zealots attempt to foist their lifestyles onto anyone not like them. To me, there isn't a twit of difference between the dreaded "Nanny State" and a Vegan/vegetarian (food police). They both actually believe that they are far superior and will do whatever it takes to force everyone else to be like them. Well, to all you vegan fanatics out there… How about screwing yourselves! I think I'll go make myself a nice juicy cheese burger now, and watch "Meet Your Meat" PETA propaganda a few more times. Yummy!
Sorry for this post. I couldn't help myself. I've had just about all of the crap that I can stand.

Get real and quit being a drama queen because you have nothing else to say. Like this is even an occassional occurrence when one goes out in public. You have a vivid imagination, I'll give you that.
It's also a sad statement on society when taking a stand against animal-cruelty is considered "self-righteous."
The discussion is not about eating meat.
It is about animal cruelty.
Meat is healthy, certainly if that animal lived and eated healthy too. But animals should be treated like the emotional and inherenlty friendly beings that they are.
Animal cruelty just really SUCKS, and it is unnatural, criminal, and not in favor for humans as well!
I would really like to know...
How representative this film is of the industry. Is it the norm, or is it unusual. Is it new, or old? I mentioned it to my wife, and this is her argument against it, saying that this is probably just rare occurrences that get caught on film.
I am for animal rights but like meat too. I would like to see things changed, if this is the way it really is.

With the hamburger being more popular than ever . .
. . . and a subsidized monopoly . . . this vedio is just the tip of the iceberg. With McDonalds doing prime time commercials world wide, and meat outlets on every corner, what do you think? Just hamburger, I don't know but I do know that 36 million beef cattle are raised each year for slaughter in the US alone. However the US also imports a lot of it's beef, mostly hamburger meat.

Number of Cows in the World
According to the International Erosion Control Association, who tracks overgrazing, the world's cattle herd went from 720 million in 1950 to 1.53 billion in 2001. As a comparative, the world population increased from 2.5 billion in 1950 to 6.1 billion in 2001. If you add in sheep and goats, the herd size increases to 3.3 billion. In Africa there are an estimated 230 million cattle, while India hold's the world's largest cattle population with 283.1 million. The United States has 98 million head of cattle, while China has 130 million head.

I have seen this video
I have seen this video before.
I have been in support of animal rights/welfare for my whole life. And for many years I have made conscious decisions about the poultry and meat I eat.
I strongly oppose animal cruelty, whether it be in the farm or at home.
However, I see this video as propaganda. The purpose is to make you believe that ALL animals farmed are treated with cruelty. But keep in mind that this is such a small example of all the farming that is done.
Yes, I know that there is a lot of animal cruelty on industrial farms, and I oppose that.
But the purpose of this group is to turn you into a vegetarian.
I have no objection to eating meat, so long as the animals were given a proper life before the slaughter. So I choose to buy from local, small farms as best I can. There are a lot of farmed animals that have pretty decent lives (better than a lot of humans anyways!)

You can't possibly be serious. A small sample???
All animals which are unfortunate enough to be born into factory farms ARE treated this way and live in this manner. It is factory farms which supply to vast majority of meat to the world NOT your local, small farms.
BTW, being slaughtered at three months of age (on an organic farm) when a chicken's life span can be 5-10 years is hardly a decent life. I'll assume you were comparing to a factory farm.
Animals that are bred and
Animals that are bred and raised to be food should be treated humanely, of course. Their purpose is still to become food.

Therefore, slaughter,
Therefore, slaughter, deliver to market, commence barbecuing and ENJOY. I've known several vegetarians, but they eventually changed their diets because they were starving to death.

Then they didn't know what
Then they didn't know what they were doing. There is plenty of non-animal protein out there.
Moderation in all things
A little meat, a little veg. Nothing wrong with a balanced diet.

Exclusion of animal products
Exclusion of animal products does not make a diet unbalanced.
there is another aspect to all this
in the book on the subject "Slaughterhouse" I read many interviews with former and current slaughterhouse workers who admited to abusing animals...then coming home and abusing their wifes and children...

"How can we justify to the unemployed and underemployed in the United States the incredible cost of maintaining a global empire?" - Dr. Ron Paul
Exactly, our detachment from nature . . . .
. . . will blind us from the terror of industrialization and the "one size fits all" economics forced upon us in our sleep. lifestyles as we are poisoning our children. Cancer is the number one cause of death amoung children. Even infants have diabetes.

Vegan/Veg lifestyles are a long term bad plan for most people. You will more than likely cause significant health problems if you follow the Vegan/Veg lifestyle year in and year out.

"Vegan/Veg lifestyles are a long term bad plan for most people. You will more than likely cause significant health problems if you follow the Vegan/Veg lifestyle year in and year out."
I noticed that the link you provided advertises the benefits of "the vital fat-soluble activators found exclusively in animal fats" and its members are comprised mostly of small-farm cattle ranchers. Hmmm...
How many vegans or vegetarians have you studied? Were their diets based on a balanced diet of whole plant-based foods or Fritos and twinkies?
I'm going to have to go with the famous and well-respected children's doctor, Dr. Benjamin Spock, on this matter, who died in 1998 at the age of 94:
* Feed children vegetables, fruits, whole grains and beans regularly and with a positive attitude. Parents should model the same eating style.
* Eat plenty of green leafy vegetables -- two to three servings each day -- because they are loaded with absorbable calcium, iron and vitamins. Broccoli, kale, collards, bok choy and chard are examples.
* Vegetables should make up 25 percent to 30 percent of the diet. Buy fresh, organic, locally grown vegetables from the farmers' market or another local source, or grow your own.
* Eat beans and bean products (such as tempeh and soymilk) regularly, and include fruits, seeds and nuts for flavor and variety.
* Whole grains, vegetables, beans and fruits are the basics of good nutrition. If a child's diet includes them, the most important nutritional bases are covered.
* Dairy products (other than breast milk) after the age of 2 years are not recommended. He listed many health reasons. Vegetables and legumes provide calcium and have other nutritional advantages, so milk from cows is unnecessary.
* Eliminate meat and poultry and reduce fish consumption. Children raised on plant proteins have better health as adults.
Note:
Despite the science that affirms plant-based diets as optimal for humans and other primates, a vegetarian eating style is outside mainstream American culture and at odds with the economic and political forces that sustain it. In what he knew would be the last edition of his classic, Spock was determined to make explicit the advice he believed passionately.
P.S. The site also advertises the "benefits" of cod liver oil.
Just using common sense, cod liver oil is derived from the liver, which filters and detoxifies the blood. Because of this, the liver could contain highly-concentrated levels of toxins, contaminating any supplements made from it. It's like licking the inside of a garbage pail.
The statement on a Veg
The statement on a Veg lifestyle being a long term bad plan is from personal experience. I grew up in a health food store/co-op lifestyle. We ate an balanced diet of meat, veggie's, and goats milk products. It was fairly easy to pick out the vegs who came into the stores. They were usually pale, thin, and fragile in general. Not everyone, of course, but it is an appropriate stereotype. Never the less, I changed to a vegan diet for several years in my late 20's to mid-30's when I was in a heavy detox/cleansing phase. It started out well, but had longer term consequences. It nearly killed my wife. The lack of fats and fat soluble vitamins took a big toll on her well being. One of the simplest articles that I really like from Price Foundation is the myths of vegetarianism. http://www.westonaprice.org/mythstruths/mtvegetarianism.html I encourage anyone to pull the research articles and review them to find out if they are flawed studies or pulled out of context. For example, most people believe that vitamin A is found in plant based foods. Beta carotene and other carotene's are found in fruits and plants. Human conversion of carotene into vitamin A doesn't always happen and doesn't always happen efficiently.
Bottom line: Are there any healthy traditional cultures that led only vegan/vegetarian menu plans?
I'm ...
I'm trying to follow the diet in Sally Fallon's book "Nourishing Traditions." I think that is the best way to go. I still have a ways to go though.
A good article to read on the Weston A. Price Foundation's website is Broth is Beautiful.
