More Media Press on the Break-up of the U.S.A.
Submitted by aVoiceof Reason. on Sat, 01/03/2009 - 14:28I myself first learned about these theories way back in 2004, when I was in 10th grade taking an AP Human Geography class.... I kind of have to agree with this article though.... the only chance that such a break up could happen is if the federal power in Washington D.C. were to collapse and breaking up the nation was the only or best answer to regain stability. Obviously, there is no chance Mexico is going to try and take southern/border regions by force unless Washington doesn't have the power to stop them. Not to mention the overwhelming identity people hold of themselves as Americans. And if the country did break up, I suspect it'd be far more than just 6 pieces. By my count, it'd be between 15 and 20.

If the US broke up the Mexicans would be more in trouble. Texans would be in charge of border security than the Feds
Got that right. When the Mexican Army came through Texas....
....on their way to help with hurricane Katrina, the call went out and hundreds of people in vehicles started tracking the Mexican convoy. Civilians and police did not know what was going on at first, many thought we were being invaded. People got guns and took off after the convoy. I was pleasantly surprised that there were no international misunderstandings. Texas and California have economies larger than most countries. If the US did break up, the separated sections would still be very powerful. Alaska might go with Canada, but not Russia without military force.
