Today's subjects: Original Source Material and Due Diligence

Orginal Source Material is where the story actually came from. Let's say you read a story that says the washington times said the sky was falling. Unfortunately because many of you WANT to hear that, you'll believe it and run with it. It works the same way with stories you don't want to hear but fit into your pre-set beliefs. You'll run with as gospel without checking the source. What if the Times actually said, "The Sky is Falling off the painting on the ceiling of the capitol dome"? I saw a thread on here earlier where the story and the original source said two completely different things (patriot being tortured), but it worked---it said "Patriot" anf "Torture" so it must be true right? I also have taken notice of the Rahm Emanuel thread that is a very choopy spliced video and the way everyone is so quick to accept it at face value. In this case, you are not far off at all, but you don't know that for sure until you've watched the ENTIRE INTERVIEW available readily and free of charge on c-span.org. You are the final fact checker. Don't believe things just because they fit into the story as you think it should or will play out.

Due Diligence---
You read a story or see a thread that says "Sheriff has people arrested", and you think "cops bad" "Protesters good", "me no like sheriff". But on another thread you'll say how the sheriffs are our only elected law enforcement and should be supported. You may also say that sheriffs should enforce immigration laws more stridently. But because you didn't do your research on the sheriff, you think he's a bad guy. And you know what, maybe he is. Look it up and find out for yourself. You may be surprised.

C'mon guys, you are all doing so well. Please don't go to sleep within the movement, we just woke you up!!

I'm not referring to just these two examples. This is for EVERYTHING.

Good Advice.

So true. Its all about credibility.

If I make two claims:

1. England has a border with Scotland.
2. The Moon is made of cream cheese.

Which claim is going to stick in people's minds?

You never know, I might even have people reaching for the map just to check my first claim.

Read widely, very widely, year after year, and discernment will come to you (whoever you are, out there), as the spring follows winter.

Try: Ideas Have Consequences by Richard M Weaver

Many books have a place at the end where you can find a list of additional books on that topic. There are lots of exciting rabbit trails out there to follow for a ways.

Dip in to some of the classics. The translations can be bewildering and ponderous and discouraging at first, but there is hope-- the children's versions! Even Herodotus has a kid's edition. These will grab your interest, as well as orient you to what the book is about, helping to ease you into the actual translation.

No Fear Shakespeare. Barnes and Noble has this series that has the Elizabethan English on one page, and modern English on the opposite page. Not only can you actually read the plays, but can learn the older English simultaneously.

All this really and truly does have to do with learning to think carefully, and with finesse and precision. Public school students, which most of us were, were not taught how to think our way out of a wet paper bag, or how to properly express ourselves. If we want our cause to win, we must be able to outperform the opposition in these ways.

Parting shot: bone up on logical fallacies. Just google it, and possess something valuable for free!

Thanks MikeLawson.

A patriot is being tortured

I was subjected to "antidepressant therapy" against my will, I assure you it is torture. This man is being held in a mental institution for refusing to sell out his ideas - that is being a Patriot.
Just because you do not like the view of another does not mean they are incorrect.

Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.

With all due respect. I said nothing about the man's situation

The fact that the referenced website made a claim and a reference that was fully contradictory was the point. I feel very badly him him, but the writer mislead or was mislead.

This will always be a problem here,

or any other blog you run across like this. Your advice is very good.

This is also the heart of a lot of these odd theories being thrown all over the place. Articles and such are little more than raw intelligence data. It needs to be washed and researched before it can be analyzed (in and of itself a separate involved process). Therein lay the trouble. This is why there are multiple layers of clearances and sections in the S2 field of the military.

The bottom tier collects information, determines whether or not it is relevant, and sends it up the chain.

The next tier 'washes' it by double checking, and looking for key elements to the subject matter, then assigns it a Validity (credibility rating) letter. It goes upstairs again.

3rd tier begins to analyze the material's validity and does some snooping based on the validity rating. Most pieces of material get washed out at this point unless there are key factors present. When it has been filtered to key elements, it goes up another level.

4th tier begins fitting pieces together. If there are parts missing, requests are made for more information. When the parts are together, they begin to analyze how the material fits into the subject at hand. Then it goes to the top tier.

THIS is where the actual analysis and think-tank work begins. It is at this point where they begin to fit things together strategically and look long term at the theater level.

Most average people are simply not versed in intel analysis and have little understanding about how to do it. As a result, they only get a piece or two of the overall scope of things and the rest is speculation or opinion based on emotional response or other such factors. Forums at best are bottom 2 tiers, some better than others.

some

some good, solid advice there.

Thanks, Mike

I was a slow learner in school years ago. I guess time didn't help. I think some Sheriffs are good and some not so good and some corrupt. Just like every person is different, uniformed or not. That is why when I read comments that start with ALL cops, all liberals, all conservatives, all, all, all doesn't cut it. It is never ALL or nothing, for me anyway it's SOME. Peace Patriot
