Is a Tax Revolt in the making?

From it's very beginning, America has a history of revolting against oppressive governments by refusing to pay taxes. From the Revolutionary War to the Great Depression, tax revolts have been used with great effectiveness to fight back.

The question is - will it take another Tax Revolt to put the government in its place?

Now Here Is A Real Plan For Recovery

AMEN!

When a company falls on difficult times, one of the things that seems to happen are they reduce their staff and workers. The remaining workers need to find ways to continue to do a good job or risk that their job would be eliminated as well. Wall street, and the media normally congratulate the CEO for making this type of "tough decision", and his board of directors gives him a big bonus.

I feel our government should not be immune from similar risks. I therefore am recommending the following cuts to be implemented by the next president elect.

Reduce the House of Representatives from the current 435 members to 218 members and Senate members from 100 to 50 (one per State). Also reduce remaining staff by 25%. Accomplish this over the next 8 years. (two steps / two elections) and of course this would require some redistricting.

Some yearly monetary gains include:

$44,108,400 for elimination of base pay for congress. (267 members X $165,200 pay / member / yr.)

$97,175,000 for elimination of the above people's staff. (estimate $1.3 Mil in staff per each member of the House, and $3 Mil in staff per each member of the Senate every year) $240,294 for the reduction in remaining staff by 25%.

$7,500,000,000 reduction in pork barrel ear-marks each year. (those members who's jobs are gone. Current estimates for total government pork earmarks are at $15 Billion / yr).

The remaining representatives would need to work smarter and would need to improve efficiencies. It might even be in their best interests to work together for the good of our country? We may also expect that smaller committees might lead to a more efficient resolution of issues as well. It might even be easier to keep track of what your representative is doing.

Congress has more tools available to do their jobs than it had back in 1911 when the current number of representatives was established (telephone, computers, cell phones to name a few). Note: Congress did not hesitate to jump on a train for home this week when it was a holiday, when the nation needed a real fix to the economic problems.

Also, we have 3 senators that have not been doing their jobs for the past 18+ months (on the campaign trail) and still they all have been accepting full pay. These facts alone support a reduction in senators & congress.

Summary of opportunity:

$ 44,108,400 reduction of congress members.

$282,100,000 for elimination of the reduced house member staff.

$150,000,000 for elimination of reduced senate member staff.

$ 59,675,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining house members.

$ 37,500,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining senate members.

$ 7,500,000,000 reduction in pork added to bills by the reduction of congress members.

$ 8,073,383,400 per year, estimated total savings.

Big business does these types of cuts all the time.

IF you are happy with how our government is right now, just delete this message.

IF you are not happy, I assume you know what to do.

IT IS NOT A WASTED VOTE!

Brilliant

If we earn just enuf to not have to pay taxes, we'll also be eligble for the "tax break" for the poor that Obama is proposing!

The tax revolt has been gong

The tax revolt has been gong on for over thirty years. I've known many of them. Of all the methods I have seen, every single person that tried to take on the IRS head on got destroyed. They tried every possible legal argument and lost even when they were right. I saw many go to prison, where they still sit. Others lost everything, and most had their families destroyed mainly due to the women not being able to cope with it all. The only successful people were the ones who just quietly dropped out and disappeared from the books. They stopped paying but in exchange had to live the rest of their lives underground so to speak. No bank accounts, no credit cards (at least the their name), all cash businesses, no record keeping or paper trails of any kind, and divesting themselves of property. It means becoming a professional pauper. An inconvenient way to live but it is possible. On the other hand if 70 million people all told the IRS to F-off at the same time there would not be much they could do about it.

I'd like to read it.

read this - I dare ya!

Follow the law. The law says most of us aren't responsible for federal income taxes. Don't think for two seconds that you don't have to file.
I personally received it all back for 2007 by following the info on this site and reading the book. Best $20 I ever spent.

There is no difference between an authoritarian government from the right or the left...F. A.Schaeffer

Don't put it past them to get creative.

National property tax? A tax on what you *could* be making if you applied yourself, to be determined by some bureaucrat? A self-sufficiency tax? Alternative energy tax? Non-urban tax? View tax? Clean air tax?

Don't forget, government needs are much more important than yours so they will get the money from you any way they can. My hope is that they push us to the breaking point and a *true* tax revolt will sweep across the land.

New Hampshire and Ecuador.

Yeah...there is a tax revolt alright...

Most are losing their jobs, and are on unemployment, so yes I would say there is a tax revolt, all these folks will be making less than the amount required to pay taxes. We should all put our funds together, buy a lot of property, grow gardens, build homes, livestock, and live together in this community. Go out, and get minimum wage jobs, share chores of gardening, and raising livestock, and make just under the amount required in order to NOT pay taxes, hows that, lol....

I am seriously considering the same thing.

I plan to start building my own house this spring. No income means no taxes but when it is finished you have a lot of equity in a tangible asset. Anyone need a carpenter? : )

Right on Ralph...

Good carpenters are hard to find, you will always be able to produce, I can make vehicles run with or without fuel.

Really?

How can you make them run without fuel?

Water, my friend...

It is real, and the car makers, and the oil industry do not want you to know...do some research dear.

Well here is an idea!

Why don't you do a video and then see if the Daily Paul has the expertise to put together a start-up investment company to get this going?

better to keep it ULTRA low key.

the nwo folks go after alternative fuel folks who advertise HARD.

hook up via email. then do most communications by landline. ideally in person. remember to take battery out of your cell phone if you're gonna have it near you during these kind of communications.

keep it low key and pass it forward.

Tax is revolting

This is an interesting subject and the case for is made here courtesy of Vanity Fair' with the only conclusion possible really: Someone has to pay back but why us?

The other point I'd like to make is that the government's have removed the opportunity for us to save ourselves. One example or two is that we can no longer go out to supplement our incomes by baby sitting for a few quid, or a bit of electrical work, etc, because you need licences and criminal vetting which costs money and time to achieve. In addition, in past recessions a bit of moon-lighting or baby sitting, etc was easier because without mass imigration there were more opportunities for doing so in addition & less red tape and regulation. Competing for cash inhand work is made harder from immigration because unregulated immigration means those who are illegal are'nt on the radar and so can get away knowing they won't ever be caught for evading tax and other rules whilst competing with those for work in the black economy who are on the radar so to speak.

There is a revolt underway

You can get the drift of it from these files:

They are citations, rulings, court briefs, memoranda, research and articles of people taking the IRS to court and vs. There are many court wins in these 245 documents. Please download and pass along to those confronting the beast....

Good question, Yes, I think

Good question, Yes, I think it is on the way. The Governemnt does not care about us. We are nothing more than chattle to them. The issue is getting quite dyre and this year seems to be the defacto moment for the WTP organization and the Government. WTP seems to be the only organization I have come across that is ready to go toe to toe with the Governemnt and Its not just over taxes either, its all the other issues where government has stepped on the Constititional. I joined the WTP this year. I hope others do too.

Best regards

Yes

I think this is one of our very few venues. We have let our voice be heard and they ignore us. They tax us and then spend without being accountable in any way to anyone. What choice do we have. We must stop giving them our money. Besides, they don't need it, it is just control. We need to audit, audit, audit this government.

I don't know if we'd have the cajones for a tax revolt...

What would probably happen is a few tax protesters would engage in a revolt. By a few I mean anywhere from a few hundred to a few hundred thousand. The government would then round up a few of them for a show trial and strip them of everything they own and throw them in prison. Others who signed on for the 'protest' quality of the revolt would get the message. Tax Revolt over.

As for a work-stoppage, I don't think there would ever be enough people to sign onto something like that to make a splash. Even if you could get every RP supporter in the US to participate, which would never happen, it would go virtually unnoticed.

The government is very, very good at intimidation.

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

In 2005, President Bush’s Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform

found that more than 120 million Americans (40% of the U.S. population) pay absolutely no federal income tax at all. At least 39 million earned well above the exemption amount, filed tax returns which were accepted and processed by the IRS and still paid ZERO ($0.00) tax. Despite intense Government efforts to indoctrinate entire generations of Americans to the contrary; the undeniable truth is [that] not everyone is required to pay federal income tax.

"Our federal tax system is, in short, utterly impossible,
utterly unjust and completely counterproductive,
[it] reeks with injustice and is fundamentally un-American...
it has earned a rebellion and it's time we rebelled."

wow

Did the PRA force the DOJ to dismiss all charges on the last business day before the case was to go to trial?

yes...Paper Reduction act:)

yes...Paper Reduction act:) ha

It looks to me like this - since the constitution does not allow

for the Federal Reserve or Federal Reserve Notes, that the government is unconstitutional in asking to be paid in FRNs.

Ive always loved the quotes:

"if you dont own 100% of the fruits of your labor, then you are not free"

and...

"to allow the government to tax even 1% of the fruits of your labor will open the door for them to take all of the fruits of your labor"

I just got a bill for $72,000 from the IRS, mostly fines for "failing to file a 1040"

the tax courts dont believe in a nation of laws, they go by a nation of opinions.
here is an example of how most Americans, and most tax courts see the law.

Lets say there is a sign on a road that says "NO CARS ALLOWED"
and you drive down the road, and you get a ticket.
When you prepare to fight the ticket you find that there is a definition of "CARS". It reads "For the purpose of traffic laws CARS refers to purple corvettes" Well, lets say you were driving a "purple corvette", does that mean you are guilty of breaking the law?...not yet, perhaps there is a definition of "Purple Corvettes". Lets say the law say "for the purpose of traffic laws, Purple Corvettes refers to Chevrolet corvettes built between 1976 and 1977".
Well, you drive a 1984 corvette. You are obviously not guilty.
The average person would pay the 175$ ticket, some Americans would see the first definition, and then pay, and only a tiny percent would actually follow the letter of the law.
IRONY: the "whackos" who sift through the entire law, to find a "loophole" are considered extreme, when actually THEY are the only ones following the law!

Same goes for tax laws.
