PARIS – The head of Europe's biggest economy said Thursday that world leaders should be looking at the massive U.S. deficit and other economic imbalances, not just problems caused by financial markets, as they debate a new global order.
Speaking at a conference in Paris on the future of capitalism, German Chancellor Angela Merkel singled out the American budget deficit and China's current account surplus — the difference between exports and imports — as problems upsetting the global economy

The EU does not represent the opinions of the populace
It's important for Americans to understand that the EU is an anti-democratic, bureaucratic (potentially fascist) system, which the majority of the EU populace does not endorce.
The EU has hijacked democracies in Europe by bribing its 'leaders' with 30 pieces of silver.
I'm sure Americans will recognise the syndrome, because the same kinds of anti-democratic forces seek to take control of the US.
Many of our US brethren will view the UK with suspicion WRT the 'democracy' they supposedly espouse. History tells you that you are probably correct, WRT the GOVERNMENT of the UK.
Be under no illusion that we, the people, (US, UK and possibly most of the world) all face the same battle, against the same megalomaniacs.
Your fight is our fight - and vice versa. We need to fight together.
We, in the UK, appear to have lost our guts, whereas you in the US fight for your rights. I salute you all for that and would hope that, for the sake of freedom, you will help us [pathetic] Brits to fight with the spirit in which you are all fighting.
In so doing, we all win. (While sending the amoral politicos to the stocks!)

Sarkozy sees the light and a bit of darkness!
Sarkozy says financial capitalism based on speculation is "an immoral system" that has "perverted the logic of capitalism." That is true in the sense that funny money was being used by the speculators. However, ordinary trading in shares of real value is not the same.
He says, "It's a system where wealth goes to the wealthy, where work is devalued, where production is devalued, where entrepreneurial spirit is devalued," and all this is true but he goes on to say, "In capitalism of the 21st century, there is room for the state".
How much room. Certainly not $3 trillion of it in the form of deficits!
