Hypothyroidism.

0 votes

I just had a blood test and my doctor said I have hypothyroidism, abnormally low levels of thyroid hormone. I was shocked because I would have to take the prescribed medication for the rest of my life (essentially hormone supplements, not a cure in any way). I'm only 18 and I don't want to be hooked to pills for the rest of my life. IS there any natural ways to boost thyroid activity?

check out dr. mercola

He claims he can get you off of any med. www.mercola.com I was born without a thyroid and will have to be on Synthroid forever. If you can get your thyroid healthy do it. Coconut oil is good- watch your vitamins-stay off of soy.

Check out the research on

Two things

Cleanse your body of flouride and chlorine. 2nd get natural Iodine and supply it to your body by rubbing it on your skin..

Bromine is in all bread products.. they replaced Iodine with it during the 60's I believe. Bromine is HORRIBLE FOR YOU. as well as fluoride.

I'll let you search around with this info on how to do what I've listed.

Bromine

Isn't that the same stuff they treat hot tubs with? Brominated Vegetable oil is in squirt and other soft drinks that they want to make "cloudy" It will make you feel terrible.

Oh yes.

and they put it in Bread.

My daughter

was allergic to the GLUTEN in wheat, barley, rye, oats and that is Celiac Disease. If you try the celiac diet and it helps you that may be the cause of your thyroid problem. You cannot go wrong with a diet that is basically raw and cooked vegetables, fruit, rice, and some protein such as eggs, milk, cheese, and perhaps some fish and chicken. In the celiac diet the gluten grains are eliminated. Avoid soy which is a GM food, sugar, and aspartame. Avoid all artificial sweeteners. Information can be found at www.celiac.com

too young to have hypothyroidism

My daughter was diagnosed at 18 with hypothyroidism. Her great-grandmother, grandmother, & I all had been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, but I felt that my daughter was too young to have such a diagnosis even if it was hereditary. Coincidentally, her symptoms began after she was at college & eating dorm food/junk food. We found a doctor that trained her how to eat nutritionally while at college & educated me on what to exclude from our home cooked meals. We also learned that our family is very allergic to soy & we had to eliminate all processed foods, including eating out. My daughter was on Armour thyroid (natural) until we also began seeing a very knowledgeable chiropractor. After he convinced her to eliminate simple carbs & ALL sugar from her diet, she no longer needed the thyroid medication. After seeing my daughter's improvement, I followed the same regime. After feeling miserable on Synthyroid for 10 years, I was able to eliminate my need for it & I've been off of it for 6 years. My daughter & I feel 100% better!!! Do some research & try an elimination diet to see if you improve. Our bodies are all individual chemistry sets...what works for one, may not work for another.

oh totally. learn c&e,

oh totally. learn c&e, bluebody, and 'the neighborhood walk' and practice them everyday. you'll be good in no time. within 30-40 days easily.

you can heal your symptoms AND completely heal the cause.

you will learn it all in a 4 day event. ram makes things happen for his beginners. you get to pick 6 things when you first learn c&e. i'd highly suggest making this one of the six! :)

Look into IODINE SUPPLEMENTATION

Go to curezone.com, find iodine supplementation group.
Find facts and information. Start to filter your tap water.
You need to remove fluoride as much as possible.
Food that contains bromides also brings down thyroid gland.
Remember thyroid function mostly depends on IODINE.

Well swan2000 (weird we have

Well swan2000 (weird we have login in names that are almost the same) you must be on iodine theraphy. I agree with all that you say, no fluoride or bromides. As far as I know only distilled water removes all of the fluoride, RO water doesn't get it all. Bromides are tough to eliminate since it is in wheat flour. But there is coconut flour, rice and other options.

I take Iodoral a natural iodine supplement. I would recommend you finding an iodine therapist/practitioner. They can do an iodine loading test and see what your levels are. I slowly increased my iodine intake over 8 months, I am now at 50mg. I am very sensitive and it took me much longer to get to the recommended dose. Remember with iodine, start low and go slow.

FYI, I do sell distillers and iodine supplements on my website if you can't find it from a practitioner, http://www.4huts.com/prdcts.html

I posted this yesterday and only got one comment. Read please.

Healthy living for 2009. I am NOT, NOT, NOT an advocate of "Prescription Medicines" to fix medical conditions. I hope this helps anything who takes the time to read it. The rules of the road for healthy living.

"Diet and exercise," now termed "physical activity and nutrition" so as to be less offensive to patients, is also the treatment for many conditions such as:

Diabetes,
Hypertension,
Depression,
Sleep disorder,
Anxiety disorder,
Hyperlipidemia,
Obesity,

Drink water!!! 2/3 of our body wieght is pure water. Go by the color of your urine. Yellow, orange, or smelly means that you are "dehydrated" meaning dry. Urine that is clear or slightly yellow is where you need to be for now and forever. This advice does NOT apply to people with kidney disease or heart failure.
Drinking water (not caffeine- or alcohol-containing) is the treatment and the cure for:

Urinary tract infections,
Kidney stones,
Gout,
Sinus infections,
Allergies,
Dry skin and eyes, and mouth

1-2 alcohlic drinks/day maximum.
Eat primary foods.
6-8 hours of sleep/day.
No tobacco...NONE.
Take a muti-vitamin/day.
take 500-1000 mg of extra Vitamin C/day.

Eat Breakfast!!!... and eat some protein at breakfast. Protein reduces stress and consider protein "brain food." Don't skip the most important meal of the day. No breakfast means that someone has had no nutrition for 12 hours. That is a huge stress on your body.

A daily prayer thanking God for the good health you already possess keeps you grounded in the basics of "wants" versus "needs."

Let us get 2009 started right by getting on tract with our bodies.
Treat it right, and it will be there for you when you need it.
Peace.

Remember, though ... yellow urine....

will almost always happen when taking vitamin suppliments. A lab tech I knew said that almost almost all vitamin companies put yellow dyes in their vitamins so that people will see yellow urine and be more likely to think the vitamins are doing something for them. Ever since he told me that, I have paid attention to my urine color when taking vitamins and then when not. What he said is true. So if taking vitamins, yellow urine doesn't always equate with not enuf water. FYI

Always found B vitamins

made urine bright yellow. No longer take vitamins except some C added to my well water.

That's because they are

synthetic B vitamins. Organic B is essential.

know that. No longer use vitamins, just food and positive energy.

High vitamin doses and especially vitamin C can . You are right.

Urine Color as Health Indicator
by Ron Kurtus (20 May 2005)

The kidneys process liquids from what you have been eating and drinking, as well as material from various body processes. The resulting urine consists of water and dissolved waste material. Since some organ malfunctions or the effort to fight off a disease can results in excess waste material, the color of the urine can be an indicator of what you have been ingesting and the condition of your health. Certain colors can indicate problems, diseases or imbalances in your diet.

Questions you may have include:

Of what does urine consist?
What are abnormal colors for urine?
What should you do if your urine is an abnormal color?
This lesson will answer those questions. There is a mini-quiz near the end of the lesson. Health Disclaimer

Urine
Urine consists of water and dissolved waste material from what you have been drinking and eating. It also includes dead blood cells and other material the body wants to eliminate.

The kidneys process the blood plasma, allowing water, sugars, vitamins, amino acids and other vital substances back into the bloodstream. They eliminate excess water, salts and minerals, as well as urea from protein digestion, uric acid, creatinine from muscle breakdown, hormone waste and toxins. Also eliminated is urochrome, which is a yellow pigment that comes from the processing of dead blood cells in the liver.

The urochrome gives the urine a pale yellow color, which is its normal color.

Abnormal colors
Since the normal color of urine is pale yellow, variations can be an indication of health problems or be the result of certain foods that have been eaten.

Clear urine
If a person has been drinking an excess of water or diuretics such as coffee or beer, the urine may have little or no color. Typically, it is nothing to worry about if it happens occasionally.

Yellow urine
Excess sweating could result in the urine becoming a deeper yellow. Also, it is a sign that you have not been drinking enough liquids

Dark yellow urine
Liver problems or jaundice can cause the urine to become consistently a dark yellow color. Be sure you have been drinking enough fluids before jumping to conclusions.

Orange urine
People who eat too many carrots--like from a juicer--may see orange urine. Also, too much Vitamin C can turn the urine orange.

Brown urine
Brown urine can an indication of a serious condition. It could be caused by liver disease, hepatitis, melanoma cancer, or copper poisoning. Other symptoms from those ailments should also be considered as indicators. But note that if you had recently eaten fava beans or taken a laxative, your urine also could turn brown.

Greenish urine
A urinary tract infection, bile problems and certain drugs can cause the urine to turn greenish. A brighter green color is an indication of an excess of B vitamins.

Blue urine
Urine with a bluish tint can be caused by a psuedomonas bacterial infection. It can also be an indication of high levels of calcium.

Reddish urine
There are a number of things that can cause the urine to have a red tint.

Blood
A small amount of blood in the urine can give it a red tint. Sometimes droplets of blood are seen. A bladder infection, kidney stones or bladder stones can result in urine with red in it. Also, a slight injury to the bladder or kidney can result in bleeding into the urine. Some professional boxers have been known to pass blood in their urine after a fight.

If you see what looks like blood in your urine, it is a good idea to go to the doctor to check the condition.

Food
Eating beets can result in reddish-purple urine.

Acidic urine will turn red after eating blackberries. Alkaline urine will look reddish after eating rhubarb. Whether your urine is acidic or alkaline is usually determined by other foods you have eaten.

Candy or pills with a dye can temporarily turn the urine red.

Poison
Lead or mercury poisoning can turn the urine reddish. If you suspect you have ingested and have been handling those toxic metals, and your urine is red, you should see your physician.

What to do
If your urine has a strange color, and you have not been eating foods or taking pills that would cause the change in color, you should check yourself for other unusual symptoms and perhaps visit your doctor.

Also, if the urine has a bad odor, it may be an indication of disease.

Summary
The color of your urine may determine the state of your health. Your kidneys process liquids from what you have been eating and drinking, and the resulting urine consists of water and dissolved waste material. Certain colors of your urine can indicate problems, diseases or imbalances in your diet.

Learn how to do

Reiki healing or Quantum Touch, and use the healing energy on yourself. Really clean up your diet. Avoid soy of any kind and drastically reduce grains. No processed foods. It is your choice re the medication. But consider the self healing as well. It works. Do the research.

Have you been checked for Celiac disease, which is an allergy to gluten in grains? It can also lead to thyroid problems. Avoid processed junk foods like the plague. No artificial sweeteners! Never use aspartame. Poison. Eat like a health nut. Avoid sugar.

Hold the palms of your hands a few inches above your thyroid, take some long slow breaths and try to feel energy coming from your hands and going into your thyroid gland. Stay positive. This has worked for other people. You may feel heat coming from your hands or tingling. Keep practicing, feeling the energy in your palms and sending it to any part of your body that needs healing. Get a Reiki book or Quantum Touch and learn how to do this, or just Google the method. Good luck. Hang in there.

I am a physician.
Hypothyroidism is a low functioning thyroid gland. This condition is very common. It is much better to have hypothyroidism than hyperthyroidism, which is a high functioning thyroid, i.e. think of the comedian Marty Feldman (Young Frankinstein). The thyroid gland controls everything. Your metabolism, circulation, brain function, digestion, energy level, reaction time, nerves, and muscles. Taking a medication for the rest of your life is not a bad thing. Imagine being told that something is wrong and that there is NO treatment available! The medicine is now generic, meaning inexpensive. Think of this as a vitamin. There are about 10 different dose strengths available to fine tune exactly how much is needed to make the person euthyroid, meaning normal thyroid functioning. Take synthroid or a generic equivalant, That is best for what you have. Once someone gains a bunch of weight, especially due to low metabolism/hypothyroidism, the weight is very difficult if not impossible to loose. Peace.

Total BS, I'm sorry!

Total BS, I'm sorry!

Someone asked for help and here you come interfering!!

Your comment contributed nothing, you jerk.
Do not ever interfer with my trying to help someone, you idiot.
You need help; yourself, mental help.

What do you know? What is your medical training?

Screw you? I'm am trying to help someone, and here you are acting like a jerk!!
You are B.S., you jerk.

Steve, I have had this

Steve,
I have had this problem... I was put on synthroid. I ran out and quite taking it.. I started taking food grade glycerine as a body building supplement. When I had my blood test done the Doctor said that my levels were normal. I told him I had not been taking the synthroid he said hmm.. ok. but when I returned a year later for a physical I was back at having a slow thyroid! the only thing I had done different is not to be taking the glycerine.. do you think this is what helped.. also I have read there are natural types of thyroid hormon to take.. instead of symthroid! thanks!

Hey McCain-----┌П┐(◣_◢)┌П┐

What comes can also resolve. No test is 100%.

TSH )Thuroid Stimulating Hormone) is a senetive test, but you may have had a mild form of this disease. TSH values has a normal range of 0.5 to 4.5 set by statistics of what normal is supposed to be. If someone has a value of a 0.1 away from either end of these normal values, they have a "supposed" new diagnosis. Mild forms can resolve on their own. Get my drift SIERRA?

Look beyond your indoctrination

I am here telling you that I got OFF the supplement (levothroid, synthroid, was on them all over the course of ten years) - which being told you HAVE to take ANYTHING for the rest of your life is an absurd way to treat people! At least offer them a chance to look at alternatives, even if YOU do not like the alternatives. I put on over 50 pounds ON the supplement, finally got it OFF after ten years of being "treated" only after I quit the supplement and began treating myself like a life-from, not a disease. At the least, you ought to remove "if not impossible" from your post out of respect for me. Are you calling me a liar?
I have watched you, you are a good man. Do not let the indoctrination of the AMA blind your best feature - your desire to heal! Help this woman find the path to health, do not condemn her to maintaining an acceptable level of illness!

Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.

Your case is goes against the millions of people who have...

benefited from this medication.
I cannot predict the future. Whatever caused this condition, or hypertension, or hyperlipidemia, or asthma can also resolve with time. I try an educate my patients and minimize and optimize their health as well as minimize their risk factors to avoid further problems.

Although my experience is

Although my experience is not first-hand, I have lived with someone for over 20 years that has taken medication for hypothyroidism (synthroid) since she was 15 years old. She just recently consulted with a practitioner of eastern medicine and (coincidentally?) is seeing a positive change in her TSH levels. She wishes that she would have told the doctors to go pound sand way back when. There is good info below from paul4won. One caution regarding naturopaths: don't let them sell you on the bovine hormone. It will flog the gland but does not induce a response.

YES - there are options!!!

First, one test does not a history make. The doctors look at a moment and time, and put you on a pill for life. It is not healthy, and it shows disdain for the patient rather than care.
I urge you to look to naturopaths, hoomeopaths, or accupuncturists before you take a single pill. There is a way to massage your thyroid daily to force it to dump the hormone into your blood, dosing yourself with your own hormone. The yoga move "The Plough" is good for this too.
I played the "take this thyroid pill for life and you will be fine" game. My thyroid (and weight) swing wildly for years. In spite of all the dire predictions, I am now off ALL replacements and maintaining a reasonable wieght like I did before all the nonsense began.
Good luck!
Oh - and stay WAY away from aspartame.

Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.
