Ron Paul: Israeli Acts in Gaza 'Immoral'

Congressman Ron Paul condemns the violence in the Gaza Strip, saying the "collective punishment" against Palestinians is immoral.

"Many innocent children are among the dead. While the shooting of rockets into Israel is inexcusable, the violent actions of some people in Gaza does not justify killing Palestinians on this scale," said the outspoken Republican.

Israel launched Operation Cast Lead on December 27 against Gaza to put an end to rocket attacks launched from the coastal enclave.

At least 888 Palestinians have been killed during the Israeli operation, while some 3,700 others are reported wounded. At least 10 Israeli soldiers have died in the now 16-day onslaught.
Hamas, the democratically-elected ruler of the impoverished strip, demands a cessation of an 18-month Israeli blockade on Gaza before it stops rocket attacks on Israel.

The US Congress endorsed a resolution Friday to support Israel in its offensive in Gaza, "recognizing Israel's right to defend itself against attacks from Gaza."

Congressman Paul, however, says the resolution "clearly takes one side in a conflict that has nothing to do with the United States or US interests."

"At the very least, the U.S. Congress should not be loudly proclaiming its support for the Israeli government's actions in Gaza," Paul added.

The Israeli operation has entered its third week now, despite international calls and a UN Security Council resolution which urge an immediate end to the attacks against the densely-populated strip.

I would like to see a video of Ron Paul's statement. In the past, RP has used similar crises to underscore his principle of noninterventionism. In fact, that is exactly what RP did in his very recent statement on CFL.

I know I am not.

All I have ever said was that a zionist deserves the right to be free as well.

And any elected official that took an oath to uphold the constitution and then turns around and endorsed gov aid or policy in favor of one state over the other, including Israel, deserves a public hanging.

And he doesn't understand that war requires the use of overwhelming force against an enemy. That's what we did in every war we have been involved in and that's a lot of wars. People die in war. So don't talk about kids and that it is immoral only for Israel. War is immoral everywhere on every side. There was no Trans Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia before the West got together in the 1920's and made them nations. Before that they were all just a group of warring tribes.

Israel surely has a right to exist, but not with its current government, one which sanctions. and commits, genocide.

It is easy to forget that most of the Israeli people are sweet, kind and non-violent. It's the leaders in the Knesset, the Mossad and the military that are committing the atrocities - not the Israeli people.

This same line of thinking is often used by the Russians and the Chinese to denegrate America. Because people in the government engage in horrible crimes, they extrapolate that all American people are like that. This is obviously not true. Americans are kind, generous and family-oriented.

We are all part of the same human family; we have moms and dads, birthdays, gatherings of fun - it's the chowderheads in the pay of various governments (ours, the Israelis, the Russians, the Chinese) that give the rest black eyes.

BUT what I get out of Ron Paul's input is that Israel helped build-up Hamas when it seemed in their best interest to do so- now because of our intervention, the PEOPLE democratically elected Hamas- and that blew up in everyones face. His point was that we need to STAY OUT of it- not take sides, Israel's OR Palestine's. As a nation- we need to stay the hell out. As an individual we are free to have an opinion of who is right or wrong - personally I back Israel 100% in taking out Hamas - Im no military strategist though- so I cant say if limiting the action to only taking out the rocket launching sites is the best recourse. I was TOTALLY supportive of Israel in the first 3 days. At this point though- I see an occupation and just dont know enough about whats going on to continue to support Israel's actions. I understand why everyone is overwhelmingly in support of the Gazans- Hamas is using them as human shields. Its "chic" today to be anti-Israel. But the conflict is centuries old. We'd be better off butting into a domestic dispute and taking sides with a couple married for 50 years. Spout off about injustice all ya want- donate to humanitarian aid to Gaza as a a citizen of Earth-do whatever ya want as an individual- just leave the USA out of it.
