I.O.U.S.A.: Byte-Sized - The 30 Minute Version
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_TjBNjc9Bo
By now, you may have heard about our acclaimed documentary I.O.U.S.A., a film that boldly examines the rapidly growing national debt and its consequences for the United States and its citizens. The film has been a huge hit, getting rave reviews from Roger Ebert and others.
Now, we proudly release a 30-minute condensed version of I.O.U.S.A. designed specifically for watching and sharing on the web - for free.
So if you haven't had a chance to see the movie yet, watch the condensed I.O.U.S.A. today. If you've already seen it in a theater, check out the abbreviated version for a refresher. Then, tell your friends, your family, your Facebook friends and your Twitter followers about the staggering amount of money - $53 trillion - in financial obligations owed by the federal government to foreign investors and to every single American in the form of pensions, health benefits, Social Security and Medicare.
Then, visit http://www.IOUSAtheMovie.com and join us in our Fiscal Wake-Up Movement. Together, we can make American fiscal responsibility a reality.
The Peter G. Peterson Foundation has teamed up with mtvU to create InDebtEd, a new campaign for college students that raises awareness about the dangers of personal and government debt and promotes action to help stop the fiscal crisis in the United States.
Applicants 18-28 years old, individually or in teams, must come up with a creative, original idea for a video game that addresses the nation's fiscal crisis, with a $10,000 prize at stake.
To get more information, or to apply to the contest, go to http://indebted.mtvu.com/the-challenge. And if you're not between the ages of 18-28, forward the site to a friend who is!
regardless
regardless of the panel spin, They still showed it. I found it shocking as well that it made it on CNN. I made my grandparents watch it. I couldnt believe they were showing it.
Raw numbers = the reality of the mess we're in.
No recording?
No one recorded it? People outside the US can not get CNN (US CNN that is) ;(((.

One of the basic problems with the so-called "non-partisan"
presentation they're discussing is that the comments of Dr. Paul and Alan Greenspan were taken, in the same segment, and then wrapped in a very clever "who's to blame" question or category. Then of course the response, by David Walker, comes across in such a way as to make the "who's to blame" question one that isn't worth time answering. In other words, let's fix it (the symptoms) and move on. What I did not hear anyone mention is exactly "how" something can be "fixed" if the true source(s) on the problem are not genuinely identified and understood. Walker's response simply glossed over the "fault" identification by just stating that more and better regulation (centralized planning and control) of the economy is needed. The general trend of the "solutions" offered by the panel tend to side more, though not completely, on the extortion of additional property from citizens, rather than the drastic elimination of expenditures and destructive portions of the federal government.

Ron Paul
4:03pm Ron Paul was just on. I agree with the comments so far. At first I was excited (and puzzled) that CNN was showing it. It became very clear, very fast that the panel is spinning this way out of context.
Just heard David Walker (GAO)
David Walker said that Social Security was never meant to be a retirement fund. It was to be combined with people's pensions and savings. He then said "people need to work longer".
I think it's pretty obvious that if people saved up 50k for retirement then inflation turns that in 10k it's something they never figured. Inflation is the hidden tax which destroys retirement. Maybe if inflation wasn't such a money sucking bitch people wouldn't have an issue with using SS as a tertiary fund.
Something is very wrong with the IOUSA and panel of speakers on CNN. I couldn't watch them discuss anything for more than a couple minutes.
They are bringing to the forefront the fact that our children and grandchildren will foot the bill for the "Greedy Generation" of Bush and his ilk. They are doing some good but if it's on a mainstream network my guess is there is some other kind of agenda to the whole thing.
Yeah
I gave up on it too. The panel is wrecking whatever good may have come of it.
