Wanted: Boots on Ground for NH on Dec 1st
Dear Volunteers from all over the USA,
We've taken Ron Paul from nowhere in the polls to 8% in NH. We can get him up above McCain and Giuliani for sure, but it's going to take a lot of work on our part. Come join this effort to help Dr. Paul win NH. Our founding fathers risked their lives and fortunes for freedom. All we need to do is knock on doors.
We're going to make a big push to canvass on December 1st-2nd. We will be getting folks in from around the country to help out, and throwing a big rally in the evening, hopefully with Ron Paul there to say thank you.
For out-of-state folks that have a large meetup, please take RSVPs from your meetup, then have your meetup lead RSVP here with a total count:
For folks out-of-state needing a place to stay, please register at the "Operation Live Free or Die" website:
This organization is supported by the grassroots in NH. We'd love to have you come on Dec 1, and stay as long as you can. Please RSVP so that we can plan on a proper location for the event.

Information
For those of you wanting information about this, it's DECEMBER 1 and you can click on the links in the article or the graphic itself and read more.
You can sign up with the Meetup and let them know how many are coming, where you are staying, etc.
where's Lawless?!?!??
LOGISTICS:
Anyone who wants to caravan with the NYC army, lemme know... can you be in Manhattan by 7pm Friday the 30th of Nov?
26 RSVP from NYC already... we'll see how it goes once we get closer to the date. (I'm stay in touch with Vijay anyway, so registering on his site will work fine too).
CAMPAIGNING:
Last time we all met up in NH they had someone from the official campaign "train" us on how they want this done... so pretty pretty please if you are going as part of this group, heed Tom's and the NH meetup's advice and be an Indian, not a chief. They don't want us "converting" or even promoting Ron... just doing reconnaissance work to approach people as an unaffiliated person curious as to what issues affect their voting decision... thats it! Based on this recon, someone else will approach them LATER.
(eg: "I'm a volunteer with a conservative group, I'm just wondering if you have your mind made up on a candidate for the upcoming Presidential election. If so, would you mind sharing it with me, and if not, can I ask what issues will affect your future decision on a candidate? Thank you")
Evan
P.S. AFTER PARTY:
The consensus from the last trip is that we shouldn't drink Fri night... ideally give us the packets ahead of time so we can wake up bright and early Sat morning and hit the road... no hangover, no meeting the meetup... just wake up at 9 am and start knocking on doors.
But what about Saturday... NH's 1 am last call is WEAK! we need an after-party!!!!!
You forgot the video!
Ernest Hancock, who coined the term Ron Paul Revolution, lays out what's going to happen.

Umm.
No that's not the official with the campaign. He's got stencils for his banners, but we've moved beyond that. People don't realize NH was the first state to get materials so banner making would be a waste of time. The official trainer is Tom Lizardo and he talked about how to effectively canvass. The emphasis now is on canvassing and putting out signs in yards and places where the town or state will not remove them. I've seen too many removed or put in strange places... like the horseshoe on 101 and 114 near BVI?
Evan, did I meet you when you were canvassing with Lawless? :-) Was that you at my door? Fun.
Yeah, but major problem(s) with T. Lizard
...is that he thinks (and apparently actually believes) that GW Bush actually won the 2000 and 2004 elections by focusing a Get-Out-The-Vote effort centered MAINLY and ONLY upon "core" Republicans.
Hey, maybe that's the "official" story, and drinking the kool-aid demonstrates wonderful party loyalty and a very selective memory and all (chads? what chads?), but IMHO, it's also a recipe for disaster, because it starts from a very faulty premise. (And as Ayn Rand was famous for saying, "check your premises" ).
Start with a faulty premise as your foundation and you will build problematic plans and end up with an unexpected outcome. In short, your dream house will come crashing down.
As many people are starting to see (even in the media) this campaign is (or has the chance to be) one of the rare "break the mold" political realignment elections where the standard "campaign rules" do not apply.
I was witness to and a small part of a "break the mold" campaign with the gubernatorial election of Lee Dreyfuss (R) in 1979, and another with the first 1992 Senatorial race by Russ Feingold (D). BOTH men were outspent in not only their primary races (by a factor of 10 to 1) but also in the main campaign (by a factor of more than 4 to 1). BOTH "broke the rules" in substantial ways, were denigrated by the media, and were polling low -- before winning with commanding margins. Both men were also able to be re-elected despite heavy money efforts being expended against them in subsequent campaigns.
Yes, Ron has excellent "instincts" and he (with his staff) has accomplished the remarkable feat of winning (at least) 10 elections in his congressional district, even with substantial opposition from his own party!
But a presidential election is a different beast. (And the Republican nomination is substantially different than the Libertarian campaign).
My point is this: Giuliani, Romney, McCain, even Huckabee -- all of them know and are following (in their own way) the "standard" campaign techniques of GOTV -- there is no "secret" there (and I think the secrecy surrounding the training videos is both hilarious and inane). So following the SAME techniques is going to mean "fighting" the other campaigns over essentially the same territory ...using the same techniques ...and a very similar "strategy."
To my mind, that seems to be complete foolishness. Why play THEIR game? By THEIR rules? One of the main rules of a successful businessman is to go where your competition is NOT.
The Ron Paul "official" national campaign has been pretty much a "standard" traditional campaign, and to be honest, it's implementation and end results have been rather dismal and sad. (Can someone demonstrate to me a single real "success" of the national campaign -- one that is due to following "traditional" techniques?)
Conversely, the grassroots driven "Ron Paul R3VOLUTION" campaign, along with the "break the rules" financing visibility (thermometers, API and thus www.ronpaulgraphs.com, thisNovember5th.com, etc.) -- all have been very successful; and they have been successful precisely BECAUSE they have broken all the "rules." They are leaving everyone -- campaigns and media alike -- completed puzzled and unable to understand OR emulate.
So what, other than ego (or a very faulty premise) would lead you to NOT go with what has been "working" in THIS campaign and instead revert to what was supposedly "successful" (provided you accept the "official" story) in the last two. To me only ego and cognitive dissonance can explain it.
That stubbornness, "puzzlement" and cognitive dissonance, reminds me much of the MSMedia calling Ron Paul the "new Howard Dean" -- they are constantly trying to frame THIS presidential election cycle into their own revised mythological version of what happened in the LAST cycle. (BTW, though the media entirely forgets this, to remind you, at this point in 2004 they had all but anointed Howard Dean as not only the "front-runner", but the "inevitable" Democratic nominee... so how is he like RP again? Oh, he accepts donations online on that "internets" thingee... And in the revised mythology of the media [which because of EGO has forgotten their own false prophecy of Dean's rise, much less his demise] the main, indeed ONLY thing they remember about Howard Dean was that he had an "internet" following and fund-raising campaign.)
Efforts to "centralize" and "control & guide" the grassroots campaign into the mold of a Bush-Rove style GOTV in order to satisfy the [already bruised] egos of the "professionals" -- well, even if they are "successful" at turning everyone into a crew of indistinguishable robotic data-collecting monkeys -- will be a disaster (we may win NH and even IA, and GOTV may "take" the credit, but it will NOT be because of a GOTV of standard Repubs; if a win happens, it will likely be in spite of such efforts, and will actually be a result more of a "change in the political winds" and the turnout of independents, democrats, and "closet" apathetic Republicans.)
Whether we will ever REALLY know HOW a win (or God forbid, a loss) HAPPENED -- can only occur with a truly objective, hyper-critical review of solid exit polling data -- as only THAT will reveal the full truth of the matter. Doubtful that THAT will happen, much less happen in time and be accepted, because whenever people's egos [and careers] are on the line, well, in the real world, objectivity tends to go out the window pretty fast.
Finally, as an appropriate RECENT example of such a "centralized" control fiasco, witness JB's recent fund-raiser email and the objectively "less than spectacular" results. (It remains to be seen, but if this actually derailed the Dec 16th TeaParty, then it will need to be reclassified as a catastrophe. So far, objective evidence is that major damage DID occur, and yet overall fund-raising has flattened out again.)
Unconventional
I have a soft spot for out-of-the-box thinking and am open to your ideas. If not specific, what decentralized themes of message delivery do you see as effective? I have strong opinions on what our message should contain and who needs to hear it (not just existing Republicans). Would like to hear about unconventional delivery tactics (besides, due respect to others, Ron's name on pizza boxes, etc.). Email me off the forum if you prefer.

The first 5 million supporters of Dr. Paul are 'early adopters.' The next 10 million will require a modified approach.
Well. how about this:

I want to go but need information!
Could somebody please contact me with some information regarding this event. I've heard Dec 15th and 16th, now I'm hearing Dec 1st and 2nd, and there's talk of people putting us up. I'd like to come for at least a week and would love if there was a place I could stay. At the very least I need information as to places we're meeting, times, dates, confirmations of all of this, etc. Please email me at sirgumball@hotmail.com ASAP.
Cheers,

Meetup
This is a meetup activity so you'd have to contact them for more info as stated in the article. Also I repeat again, leave your freak flags home just for now.
Been there, done that,...
Very good advice, you say you are a freak, I say we need lots of freaks like you to change the present course of the Country to one where freedom is the number one goal.
TAX BOMB...... BOOM!
The response has been explosive! It's fun, easy and fast.

Been there, done that, thoughtful advice
In 1984, I trudged New Hampshire for a candidate. I was young, energetic, and picked the wrong guy, but I did have the experience of canvassing door to door in New Hampshire. Here are a few of my thoughts on the experience.
Be yourself. You are who you are, and you are not some fake sales dude. Cutting your hair, shaving your face, putting in or taking out piercings may be the right thing to do if you are a person who does that stuff regularly. And completely wrong if you do it out of a desire to look the part. Don't try to look the part. Be yourself.
Find your kind. If you are a working class hero, find places where you would like to hang out. Go there and canvass. Talk to people in the milieu you would choose to hear others talk. If you are a freak, find the freaks in New Hampshire. Go to the punk rock clubs and the tattoo parlors, or wherever you normally go, and talk to people. If you are a straight laced guy with a keen edge in sales, and you think middle of the road voters would listen, go door to door in a middle class neighborhood and canvass Mom and Dad. But, do not be disingenuous, do not try to clean up to be someone you aren't - the insincerity and your lack of comfort in playing a part you weren't meant for is going to show up. Ron Paul isn't fake. Don't you be fake for Ron Paul.
Get out of the cities. Every campaign goes to the cities in New Hampshire and sends people around to bother folks in the big cities, where they figure the votes are, and the city folks are hassled, and don't change their minds much. Sure, there are voters in the cities. Sure, if you are a freak, as I am, or a bearded hippie, you might do better in a city. This advice is free and it is worth what you are paying for it. But, if you want to look at who donates to Ron Paul in the country, it is people in the Free Mountain West. People in rural New Hampshire don't get nearly as many canvassers. So, if you have time, I suggest you'll be rewarded much more by visiting folks in smaller communities.
Good advice all around...
Also sounds like you are doing more "campaigning" than you are "canvassing" (i.e. data collecting robot for GOTV efforts).
I like.
No tri-cornered hats please.
Re zenpiper's suggestion below, the most effective campaigner does not dress or behave in a manner that distracts the voter's attention from the message. Please dress like a very normal but neat person, remove facial piercings, and shave or trim facial hair. Do not festoon yourself with message buttons, show off tatoos, or wear hats or sunglasses. Do act confident and friendly but serious. Do not get into arguments with voters. If you get a cold reception, wish them a nice day and move on to the next voter.
I have run many campaigns and have learned what works and what doesn't. Gimmicks like tricornered hats are just plain gimmicky.
New Hampshire and Ecuador
That's how our government, (Clinton's Bush's etc..), operates...
Rob is just showing everyone how government operates. They do it through force and coersion.
Tricorn hats & vests too !
.
Wouldn't it be eye-catching if all of the Ron Paul supporters - working in New Hampshire - all wore Revolutionary attire? Not the whole suit, but I bet 3-cornered hats and vests would be cool. To go with the boots.
OK, now who plays the fife?
Anybody ride a horse? Rent a bunch of horses and you'll get a crowd that way too. Giddyap New Hampshire!
...............
I see the fashion police are posting! Well, if looking the same as the supporters for the other candidates wins elections, by all means ignore my jovial suggestions.
.
No...
Tom from DC just came to give people a seminar on this. This is when you look as mainstream as possible. Remember, not everyone is as worldly...
No healthy americans
How dare we try to live longer healthier lives! If you live too long they might have to pay out some SS. They want to control your health and probably your lifespan ( Logans Run) Anyone wonder why no former presidents die young or seem to die from cancer? Are they telling us everything?
Talk About VITAMIN FREEDOM - Please
PLEASE - When campaigning for Ron Paul, stress the fact that Ron Paul is the light in a world that is in the dark as far as health freedom is concerned.
Please go to healthfreedomusa.com and read about CODEX -
It is about world domination over your right to buy vitamins, herbs, supplements, teas, and anything else that has ever been linked to producing healthier citizens - apples? olive oil? beef?
I lived in Germany for 5 years. It was difficult if not impossible to find or afford vitamins. Since the passing of CODEX there, it has only gotten worse. The price of Vitamin C as exploded exponentially - do the research if you need to. But this is TRUE FACT DEAR PEOPLE.
On the store at ronpaul2008.com you can get Slim Jims talking about our right to buy vitamins and our need to protect health freedom in America.
Or just talk about it to EVERYONE YOU KNOW. Everyone drinks orange juice, or takes Calcium, or a multi-vitamin, or...What supplement(s) would you miss dearly if suddenly your health freedoms were ripped away?

I just emailed my Congressman.
Thanks for the alert. I went to this page:

I think I am becoming an activist. :) Feels good!!
More doesn't hurt!
I'm glad to see so many people being pro-active. That's exactly what we need to ensure victory.
I did want to add, though, that 8% is inaccurate, as Ron Paul won New Hampshire's last straw poll with 66%. I think we're going to win New Hampshire, but, that is exactly why we need people going door to door, so we can solidify our victory which will send waves through the media and later primary states. :)
I'm going to a rally tomorrow in Michigan. Sadly, Michigan probably won't be voting, but, I'm not too upset about it, because RP was only polling 10% here anyways. Heh.
Good luck guys! Keep up the great work everyone! I <3 RP Supporters.
It does work
I am from Pennsylvania, and I went to NH in September to canvas and it went great. It makes a huge difference when you directly engage people. At that time, most people hadn't even hers of RP, but they were willing to listen to me. I knocked on 100 doors, and about 60 were home. Of all of those, only one person was hostile to me. He saw my shirt, shook his head, then shut the door. I guess he liked illegal foreign wars that didn't impact him. But as for the others, I definately feel that I turned at least 15 - 20 people onto Ron Paul. I can't go because of a wedding, but I will be up there with the Operation Live Free or Die for the week leading up to the primary. Just think of yourself as a Ron Paul salesman and sell a product that your believe in.
I love ron paul!
Campaigning or Canvassing?
Sounds like (with your "shirt" and all) that you were campaigning -- this is NOT what the "canvassing" that Jane is talking about (and what "Tom from DC" is training people to do).
GOTV (aka "canvassing") in their lingo is "surveying & data collection" and is emphatically NOT overt campaigning (i.e. you do NOT wear your RP gear, instead you look like a bunch of JW's with clipboards, etc).
GOTV can have both a "positive" (make sure YOUR people DO vote) and a "negative" (voter suppression -- try to get your opponents people to NOT vote).
GW Bush's campaign was extremely effective with this -- but their TRUE success was in the NEGATIVE aspect (mainly by controlling the voter blacklists, etc). IMHO, anyone who does NOT yet understand that fact is living in denial.
I would hope that the Ron Paul campaign is ONLY going to put its efforts on the POSITIVE aspects of GOTV, but I am concerned that there ARE elements within national that want to do the whole thing. If so, they are not only disgusting, but are also (IMHO) idiotic, and will probably damage the campaign in doing so (possibly irreparably).
A Call to Action - Be Part of History!
Large sums of money spent on expensive radio and TV ads won't win New Hampshire. Look at the Romney campaign. They've already spent about $60,000,000 without significantly improving their national polls.
Nothing can replace the power of one person talking to another person, leather on the pavement, face to face, heart to heart. It’s been said that all politics is local. And it doesn’t get more local than this. Imagine the personal satisfaction of knowing that your efforts and sacrifice was responsible for turning the tide, and winning the New Hampshire primary.
Does canvassing work? Yes!
Why should we do it? To win!

Please don't be forceful!

Fertilizing
But Rob R's done a real nice job here, and if he gets HC elected she can do for social policy what Bush has done for foreign policy, fertilizing America for Ron Paul's political heir in 2012.
