Daily Paul is the watering hole of many beasts of today's political jungle. We are united by the thread of the desire for freedom and small government, principles espoused by the lonely voice of Ron Paul.
We are a diverse group, though, and have many other strong beliefs that we like to talk about. Whenever we meet disagreement, however, it often ends up in name calling, patronizing language, and hateful speech. We don't convince others to see it our way, but drive them further away in the opposite direction. Many complain and quit, but hopefully return eventually. Despite the anger we feel here so often, it's still a great place for keeping up with important freedom related events.
We should look at Daily Paul as an opportunity to learn the art of persuasion. We need to learn how to argue gracefully, how to present our belief eloquently and accurately. Then armed with this talent, we go out into the world and persuade others to see it our way when it comes to freedom and small government.
When you get mad, or make your opponent mad, you have failed. It's not their fault, it's yours. You have lost the opportunity to win another freedom fighter over to our side.
Practice here and now with each other. Resist the temptation to belittle your "opponent", but teach yourself and others how to debate logically and WIN!

let me apologize for my shortsightedness in the past to those I may have offended with my arguments about evolution. I respect your opinions and beliefs, even though they may conflict with my own, and am proud to struggle with you toward our common goals.

Daily Paul. You have expressed that soooooooo eloquently. Yes. This is the place each of us must practice the 'art of persuasion and debate'.
It is truly an art and used to be part of our education before they threw that 'subject' away, along with God's divine laws, philosophy, and logic.
These subjects, if practiced with others cannot help but create great thinkers, writers and speakers, and naturally great art, science and architecture. We know that most of the hundreds of Universities out there do not provide these subjects as 'arts' any more. They have succeeded in replacing it with meaningless garble that only leads to degradation of body, mind and spirit.
Before those subjects were imparted to the students they would be informed that each time they chose to speak or write or any form of expression, they were to 'think' it through firstly before they presented to others.
This is a form of reverence for the 'love' of humanity and the greatest respect for yourself and others, because ultimately you housed God in your 'temple' within and only fed your body the purest of food and water, and only 'thought thoughts' worthy of the reverence of God within us.
You are brilliant to bring this up, Bugman.
If we desire it to be, we can turn Daily Paul into a Socratic school (which by the way was a form of 'mystery school') The goal of those ancient teachers was not to help their students 'get jobs', but to lead them on the road to 'enlightenment' so that they would soon be lamp-holders for others........

I agree with you. If we are gonna turn any tides we will not do it by being rude & divisive. Most people are not our enemies, they are simply mislead, brainwashed & captive to the lies that once held most of us in bondage.

Regardless, when it's all said and done we come together not due to color or ethinticiy, status or clout, large or small, short or tall, weak or strong, etc.etc.. We come together for the same purpose that Doctor, Congressman, Father, Grandfather, Patriot, Leader, Friend, Neighbor, Colleague, Ron Paul explains over and over again to us all. We come together because freedom is popular.
We must over look petty differences and work for the common cause of freedom. Adhere to the constitution and then put your words into action. We can win one person at a time to the thought of freedom. Plant the seed, cultivate, water and it will grow.
Our numbers are great and we must not give into the corruption of those who are blind and do not desire to lead according to truth and liberty that freedom brings.
Continue the fight. Get involved. Be wise and educate yourself and then educate others intelligently.

when in debate, I will pretend that I am a Ron Paul Republican running for office, and on TV and debating my opponent. The world is watching, and whatever I say will be recorded. If I get mad and say something stupid, it will potentially be replayed on YouTube to be thrown up in my face.

People react with an energy that is of nature not nurture. Some are “over against”, some are “over towards” and others are “away from”. My threes sons energy is over against and they react by confronting and are direct and insistent. Yet my daughter and I react with away from energy. My daughter often squeaks, “run away, run away. My wife’s energy is over towards and tends to be conciliatory.
We are all rational beings or else we could not read or write these posts. Yet some of us are free to act responsibly instead of reacting. Freedom is not natural or a part of nature. Nature is conditional throughout: cause and effect. Freedom and autonomy are super-natural with “super” meaning over or above nature. The rational man then asks, “How am I free? The word free has its root in the Sanskrit word for love.
By merely reacting we may be driven by trolls. Those with over against energy will be locked in senseless battles. Some of us will just run away. Others will be dragged around trying to reconcile with the troll. Therefore the maxim: DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS!
Bugman’s challenge is for us to act responsibly. Honesty, fairness and compassion can never be truly devalued so they need no defense. By our fruits they will know us. Who knows, even trolls can discover their own yearnings to act responsibly. Freedom is popular.

This is a perfectly logical approach
But, beware there are those who are here who are not supporters.
And, all arguments that they can't win will be buried with minutia and sensational and divisive post's. In other words the way the DP is set up the logical reasonable post will take a 2nd seat to those that are not simply because of the nature of the participants. Counter Ideological Psy Ops run rampant here.
Because of the Setup of C4L that is not possible, but the setup of the DP gives infiltrators and counter intel pro's who work in teams an advantage that those who debate with integrity do not. The fact that they have an agenda and logic and intellectual integrity do not weigh in their equation.
It is the emotions that people come here for. It is a chemical addiction, just like crack. 1/2 the DP people are on DP Crack...

I have had a disagreement with someone who would drag in endlessly long quotes that didn't even address the issue. When that happened, the whole thread became impossible to follow. I think it is an effort by an unscrupulous opponent to prevent a different perspective than his from being considered.

Let us learn from the quiet, philosophical demeanor of Dr. Paul who backs up his arguments with knowledge and truth.
It is very difficult at times, but militance drags us down to a low level and generally comes from not being able to solidly support our positions with knowledge of facts.
Ever notice how when you school someone who can't refute your words, they often get mad or frustrated because they can't find a proper way to fight for their inferior position? (usually a socialist stance that falls on its head in the face of truths).
