Discussion about Homeland Security

0 votes

There's been a rather lively discussion on one of the MSN message boards about the new TV show "Homeland Security USA". If you would like to weigh in on the subject, here's the link to the first page:

http://boards.msn.com/Travelboards/thread.aspx?threadid=8886...

The question posed is: "Is it appropriate for the Department of Homeland Security to be participating in reality television?"

Fatherland Insecurity!

Everyone pile in and educate the sheep!

Oh, and, BUMP!

It might be better as some kind of comedy......like a

Paddy Chayefsky kind of black comedy. Where it seems funny at first, then you realize that it's not so funny. After my last experience at DFW, a few years ago, I stopped flying. My wife thought it was funny. I didn't.

Hey, DFW was where I swore off flying, too!

They must be especially good there, eh?

Boycott

In 2003, I flew (it’s a 1200mile drive) to visit my grandkids. I was strip-searched in a Podunk airport by a 300lb black female TSA. My “offense” was that I had a spare car key in my wallet. I swore off flying. But, in 2008, I had a planned meeting with my grandkids at WDWorld. The cost of driving was triple the cost of flying, so I caved and flew to Orlando. The DIA experience was astonishing to me. After walking through the metal detector (successfully – I pocketed my cash & sent the wallet through the x-ray with my shoes), I was subjected to a full-body xray. They spotted my cash in my front pants pocket, and asked me to remove the cash and hold it away from my body in my left hand. Now that made me feel real secure – hey, flash a couple grand in cash in front of several hundred strangers – the exray tube is transparent. They also spent several minutes on a piece of foil I had pocketed in my shirt pocket (instead of just tossing a gum wrapper on the floor). Oh, and they were so friendly. So – I’ll not fly again until the Feds get out of the airport terrorism business.

Then you are engaging in common-sense political activism.

A boycott on all air travel. Good for you.

Makes flying unbearably inconvenient. And in some cases dangerous. Remember when that innocent woman died in their custody?

Carol Gotbaum

It was right after my trip, where in a post up above, I got so upset at DFW that I began to question whether I ought to continue to travel by air. Two weeks later, I had my answer in spades: I do not want to die in TSA custody the way Carol Gotbaum did, so I stay out of airports.
