If we did this exercise on here, it would seem like a family
reunion. Especially if we were willing to go that deep and get into ninth cousins.

What does
once, twice, three times removed mean?? I get nineth cousin, but what is the removed part?
count me in too
i don't know what that means either.
I pledge, do you?
I was
going to ask the same thing. What do you mean by removed?
Removed
You have an aunt/uncle who is married with children.
Their children and you are 1st cousins.
Now you and your 1st cousins grow up and get married and have children of your own.
They are all 2nd cousins to each other, but what is the relationship between you and the 2nd cousins?
Can't be 1st cousins because their father/mother is your 1st cousin. Can't be 2nd cousins either because your kids and they are 2nd cousins. So the relationship between you and your 1st cousins children is called 1st cousin once removed. And it goes on from there. Your 1st cousins children's children are your 1st cousins twice removed.
I have to thank one of my 1st cousins for teaching me what removed meant.
From genealogy.com....
When the word "removed" is used to describe a relationship, it indicates that the two people are from different generations. You and your first cousins are in the same generation (two generations younger than your grandparents), so the word "removed" is not used to describe your relationship.
The words "once removed" mean that there is a difference of one generation. For example, your mother's first cousin is your first cousin, once removed. This is because your mother's first cousin is one generation younger than your grandparents and you are two generations younger than your grandparents. This one-generation difference equals "once removed."
Twice removed means that there is a two-generation difference. You are two generations younger than a first cousin of your grandmother, so you and your grandmother's first cousin are first cousins, twice removed.
to a person chained in a cave, the shadows on the wall are reality
thank you, I knew I was forgetting the generations
geneology is crazy.

You have to think of the lineage as "ego" centered. So
It's hard to explain, but it's like your cousin on you mom's side's cousin on their dad's side is second cousin once removed from you, and their cousins are second cousins twice removed and so on.
