BUSH HAS A CONSCIENCE?

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D95QC3480&show_artic...

WASHINGTON (AP) - In his final acts of clemency, President George W. Bush on Monday commuted the prison sentences of two former U.S. Border Patrol agents whose convictions for shooting a Mexican drug dealer ignited fierce debate about illegal immigration.
Bush's decision to commute the sentences of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, who tried to cover up the shooting, was welcomed by both Republican and Democratic members of Congress. They had long argued that the agents were merely doing their jobs, defending the American border against criminals. They also maintained that the more than 10-year prison sentences the pair was given were too harsh.

A Final Act of Clemency

Lew Rockwell Further analysis

Upon futher thought, and knowing most of Lew's comments on immigration, drugs, thugs and such.... I offer this:

"...Bush has commuted the sentences of two tax parasites. They shot a marijuana businessman in the back, and then covered up their crime"

"two tax parasite"... I think he supports the use of Federal officials enforcing the constitution. Im sure he wants the Army there.

"shot a Marijuanna businessman in the back" Buttocks actually, but since when is a drug smuggler a businessman?

Cover up the crime of what? The Drug smuggling, the shooting or both?

my clarifications

I think he supports the use of Federal officials enforcing the constitution. Im sure he wants the Army there.

Actually, I don't believe he does. He's a zero-government libertarian.

Buttocks actually, but since when is a drug smuggler a businessman?

In a free-society a drug smuggler would be considered a businessman.

Cover up the crime of what?

Obviously the shooting of the innocent businessman. Drug "smuggling" isn't a crime according to any reasonable law code (ie. natural law).

They get paid to enforce the laws of the United States.

Perhaps you can pay them to enforce natural law.

CHA-CHING!

Same thing bounty hunters would say to abolitionists when asked about the fugitive slave act

Bush commutes sentences of former US border agents

about time

about time

There's a very deep rabbithole here,

way more than meets the eye. Bush would never object to US law enforcement officers shooting a drug smuggler except that *this particular* drug smuggler had some very important connections, with US officials running interference for him. He may not have been who he appeared to be. In other words, I suspect drug smuggling was a cover for what his real mission was. Bush had been resolutely against any consideration of commutation, as if to do so would unleash some dire consequence on the planet. Notice that he finally commuted only at the very end of his term, after having opened the prison gates for plenty of others.

I am certainly not one to defend these border guards for shooting a peaceful drug smuggler in the ass but the version of the story I heard was that the two agents informed their supervisor of the details of the shooting, the supervisor who was later pressured into testifying against them for failing to file the necessary paperwork. In other words, coverup was a bogus charge that was pressed because it was vitally important that a conviction be won in this case.

I did not follow this case closely so it's possible I've got some elements wrong here, but this is what I've pieced together from numerous accounts. It would be interesting to hear what Ramos and Compean think is the real reason they were sacrificed.

New Hampshire and Ecuador

Yeah the guy was smuggling

Yeah the guy was smuggling for an alphabet agency most likely.

PAUL: I'm for pardoning them

~
GLENN BECK
Encore: Honest Questions with Ron Paul
Aired January 1, 2008

BECK: Ramos and Compean, the border guards. If you were president of the United States, what would you do?

PAUL: I'm for pardoning them. Especially now after, you know, they've served one year and they tacked on this ten years of mandatory sentencing, which I disagree with. As a matter of fact, I've joined Bill Delahunt to recommend that as sense of Congress resolution. So I think -- I think they should be pardoned.

BECK: I've only got 30 seconds. Johnny Sutton, do you believe Johnny Sutton -- something doesn`t smell right there to me. Would you -- would you investigate what was going on with this administration and Johnny Sutton and everything in between?

PAUL: Can I confess that you`ll have to tell me a little bit more? I hate to have to confess I don`t know.

BECK: That's all right. He`s the -- he's the prosecutor in the -- in the case.

PAUL: Oh, OK.

BECK: It seems pretty -- it seems pretty nefarious.

PAUL: Yes, yes. And that is part of my reason for wanting the pardon, because I think there are a lot of questions...

BECK: Right.

PAUL: ... raised on how that case was carried out. So yes. Yes, I agree with that.

who cares if it was a while back ... my point being was that some here were mentioning that Lew Rockwell was defending the "marijuana businessman" ... talk about putting lipstick on a pig ... and that was the correct position to take on this issue.

...but Dr. Paul and Chuck Baldwin did not take that position!

On separate occasions, Ron and Chuck had met with leaders in the anti-illegal (pro legal) immigration groups ...I personally know these people and have been in many protest marches with them.... and both candidates had pledged that they would free Ramos and Compean.

Sounds to me like the Mexican was minding his own business (the herb export business) when he was attacked by strangers. He was trying to go back home when his attackers assaulted and injured him. Then the attackers tried to cover up what happened.

Maybe two years in the clink is enough punishment for the two. I think American sentences are usually much longer than needed for deterrent. But no one is going to convince me that it was the assailants whose rights were violated.

Yeah, about that..

riddle me this....maybe these guys are patriots that were protecting Americans from low quality Mexican marijuana and at the same time supporting the American homegrown cannabis businessman.

This is a good thing?

There's probably more to the story than I know about, but "just doing my job in the War On Drugs" is no excuse for manslaughter.

I'm happy that Bush got them out of prison

I agree with libertarian theorist Roy Halliday that gov't prisons are incompatible with natural rights.

But, these two officers are real jackasses. This Mexican fellow did nothing wrong--he didn't violate anyone's rights.

No one was killed in

No one was killed in anything to do with this case. They shot an illegal allien drug smuggler. Then they tried to cover-up the fact that they shot the Illegal Alien DRUG SMUGGLER.

The only thing that was killed in this case was 2 Americans civil rights. The Illegal Alien Drug Smuggler had no right in a U.S. Court as his Character was never able to come to the Knowledge of the Jury. This puke would have never been a witness in any court even if he was a Natural Born Citizen. Ergo, the case -regardless of its merit- never should have been a case.

And as far as Lew Rockwell? I am disappointed that he feels the way he does. He should watch what he says, he is a government parasite himself as he makes money off of the government by writing about it the way he does.

Thank God

Lew Rockwell said it for me...While I don't have a huge problem with the commutation, since they would have likely been further brutalized in prison, I still think these guys are criminals...as far as the parasite...I don't even think thats a questionable term...Disband the border patrol now and save billlions...All they do is make it harder for good, productive Mexicans to find their way to a new home...I never met a Mexican immigrant who didn't enjoy putting in a good 60 hours of work each week. We need more Mexicans and fewer Ramos' and Campeans as far as I'm concerned.

speaking of DRUG SMUGGLERS

George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew cannabis on their plantations.

Jefferson, while envoy to France, went to great expense, and even considerable risk to himself and his secret agents, to procure particularly good hempseeds smuggled illegally into Turkey from China. The Chinese Mandarins (political rulers) so valued their hemp seed that they made its exportation a capital offense.

For the best book to educate yourself on the marijuana and hemp issues, check out The Emperor Wears No Clothes, by Jack Herrer. This was one of the first books, about ten years ago, that introduced me to the ideas of corporatism and government fascism and the idea that things are not what they appear to be.

They didn't kill anyone. The

They didn't kill anyone. The very condensed story is, they shot a Mexican drug smuggler in the butt, he went back over the border, R and C didn't report the incident properly, they were arrested and the D.A. then gave immunity to the drug smuggler to testify against R and C, the jury doesn't get to hear about the drugs, while on immunity the drug smuggler gets arrested again for smuggling MORE drugs in (he's now suing the U.S. Government for $5 million). R and C get sentenced to about 10 years.

The gov says we must fight the war on drugs and defend the border, but when their agents actually try to do that, they throw them in jail.
It shows how fake all their "efforts" are, they would rather hassle cancer patients than smugglers.

What's the quote? Injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere.
