Bill Maher vs. Ron Paul

Here is an interesting interview of Ron Paul by a somewhat hostile Bill Maher.

http://dailymotion.alice.it/video/x1mlet_bill-maher-vs-ron-paul

Paul, I would say does a pretty good job of holding his ground, in my opinion. What really surprised me was that Bill Maher is for the CIA! Something that Chalmers Johnson points out in his book Nemesis is that is that the CIA's budget is *completely* secret. There is absolutely no accounting to Congress or the American people about what the CIA does with the money WE give them. For all we know, they could be funding Al Queda. Seriously. Don't laugh. If you know the history of the CIA, you wouldn't put it past them.

If you still think that is silly, you haven't yet watched The Secret Government. It is a must see, along with Why We Fight

Thank you, Ron Paul, for standing up for us, and doing battle with the likes of Bill Maher.

pajamasmedia.com reset for the week

Their results have reset and Fred Thompson won! We should be ashamed of ourselves.

Ron Paul is listed up there again this week and this Thompson guy is out to an early lead already.

Go Vote Dr. No!!!! www.pajamasmedia.com

I don't trust the poll

Ron was leading last week and all of a sudden he got passed. Then they put up a "signing statement" (where do we see a lot of those?) stating that he practically was disqualified since Ron's votes didn't come from thier stupid blog polls. Anyhow, there is no link to vote on the site any more. It states you must vote by placing a "voting widget" on your site.

Anyhow, as long as he is in the top three, people will wonder who he is.

OT: WMUR Blacklisting Ron Paul??

It seems that this board is the best medium to get messages to Ron Paul.

I am really confused regarding WMUR - are they 'blacklisting' Ron? He was on WMUR back in Feb ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsChWkWVJoA ) . This footage has NOT been aired.

I just went to the WMUR website, and Tancredo is already posted! http://www.wmur.com/politics/11266030/detail.html

Tancredoe didn't jump into the race until THIS week (I could be wrong, but that's what AP reported)

Folks, WTF is going on here???? Ron's team needs to become vocal!! They need to follow up with these agencies. I also think Ron's team should be putting out press releases on the wire themselves!

Anyhow, I wrote to WMUR and this the response:

subject RE: WMUR.com - Website Feedback

Thank you for writing. The Ron Paul Conversation has not yet aired, and the schedule of airings is not finalized. Once it airs, it will be archived on the site.

The show, along with several others, has been taped, and that video was shot by his campaign staff when the show was taped. However, it hasn't aired on our station yet, and once it does, it will be posted online, just like every other Conversation with the Candidate.

Bill Maher

Yeah, I think Dr. Paul did as well as anyone could have with this guy. I suppose we all need to have a thick skin and keep in mind that when you agree to be interviewed by a comedian you have to expect some pretty silly misrepresentations.
As I mentioned in another thread yesterday, what struck me first was Maher's obvious intention to portray Paul as an ultra-conservative nut case. I counted four times where Maher said Paul is "against the Civil War" (in the clip linked on this site I believe the final jab to that effect may have been cut off). The repetition was surely due to the fact that the line was getting Maher a few chuckles from the audience. At the outset, Maher calls Paul "pretty far out there." Later, he groups Paul with "Professor Irwin Cory and the Shell Answer Man" as global warming deniers.
Another clue as to Maher's prejudice is in his statement (with regard to GW) that "there are some jobs so enormous that only the government can do it." This shows clearly that Maher has bought into the dumb idea that if something is really, really important, government must handle it. Importance equals need for government control.
A somewhat startling insight into Maher's ignorance was provided by his bewildering statement that poor care of veterans is the fault of private enterprise. I thought Paul did a great job of handling that politely. I just hope viewers noticed the error in Maher's "facts."

I think some of that humor

I think some of that humor when Bill kept saying Ron was against the Civil War was at Bill's expense.

Ditto with the part in which the subject was global warming. When Ron, after being very rational about it, also mentioned in passing that there were reputable scientists on both sides of the debate, Bill burst out with "No! There are not!" (And there was laughter.)

It was so funny, because Ron came across as reasonable and logical, and Bill came across at someone who hasn't the logic to defend his position, so he can only say "No!"

Mahr

Bill Mahr used to try to say he was a libertarian, but he has consistently supported Democrats over Republicans.

If you listen to him before the 2000 election where Bill Clinton was taking some heat for sending the troops into battle he said something along the lines of "soldiers are trained to fight...let them do what they were trained to do.."

Of course, with George Bush sending troops to battle he is completely against it.
