THE ABSOLUTE, UNEQUIVOCAL SOLUTION.
Ladies and gentlemen of this fine forum,
I think we would all agree that in spite of media reports describing us as a small, fervent few, we are more realistically a rather well-organized, well-informed and passionate many. However, in spite of our continued support of our ideals, and in spite of our participation online and in our respective communities, I can't help but feel that our efforts have effectively stalled since our incredible run with Ron Paul for the presidency.
One major reason? I believe it is because as a movement, we are decentralized (ironic, I know). I'm sure there are many who feel that this is a strength; who might think that because we are spread so widely across the nation we can more easily effect influence in more places. But many of us already know that this is a disadvantage. Consider the elections processes: When it comes to electing officials and representatives, our numbers are too small in individual locations to get the results we need to advance our ideals. Sure, an eternity from now our grassroots, individual-by-individual effort may become a full blown political powerhouse. But it may be too little too late. So how do we expedite this? Right now, we are each in the ocean individually, splashing water with our hands and feet with the admirable but naive ambition of causing a tidal wave. What we need to do, of course, is combine our weight, by jumping in all at the same time- together- in one, centralized location.
Specifically, what I am speaking of is an absolutely overwhelming, gigantic, massive and incredibly difficult endeavor. Would it be a revolution if it wasn't?
What I speak of is the geographic centralization of all of us; the supporters; to unite this movement into the tidal wave that can IMMEDIATELY begin effecting the change in a fashion that cannot be squashed, silenced, or ignored. Essentially, I am suggesting the migration of every supporter to one location to form a town/city by whatever means possible; acquisition of land, construction and/or purchase of homes, the building of schools, etc.
Image a city of like-minded supporters such as those who grace these pages. We would function as any city does; we would be accountants, doctors, technology specialists, lawyers, store clerks, gas station attendants, etc. Sure, we will still be under the laws of the land- many of which we disagree with- but so too will our police happen to share the "interpretation" of the law that we share (wink wink). Our elections will obviously yield representatives of like mind. Our numbers will give us great influence, and our lifestyle, by example, will encourage much more attention and much more support, and I guarantee that before long the city would become a county, a state and then the nation- all by legitimate, legal means as our influence grows and extends into government by representation.
Is this practical? Hell freakin' no, it is not. I'm perfectly sane, and well aware of the logistic nightmare this would present on a myriad of levels, believe me. But... is it plausible? I believe it absolutely is. We need some ridiculously wealthy supporters, first and foremost. Or the capacity to garner an incredible amount of money, which we have demonstrated we are more than capable of doing. Beyond that, we just need the inner strength and will to make the sacrifices necessary to do this together.
"In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility—I welcome it."
Gut check time. Who really, truly wants to make this change happen? Time to decide. Or are you comfortable where you are? Flailing the arms in the ocean, making the admirable splash that you know very well cannot possibly form the tidal wave necessary to flood the political scene with truth and change. All I ask is that each of you think about this idea- truly and deeply. Because we are one of those few generations; and now is that hour of maximum danger, this we all know. Don't shrink from it. Welcome it. With me. Together.

An alternative to the FSP concept:
I believe we would be most effective if we all moved as far as possible from "Blue State America", and into the areas of the map that are most consistently and solidly 'red' in presidential elections. As much as I intensely dislike the Republican Party--and I do--I believe that citizens of the United States who vote Republican in presidential cycles are the most likely people to be conservative or libertarian.
Most of my problem with New Hampshire--as the choice of the Free State Project---was based on the fact that New Hampshire is deep behind the lines of Blue State America. Not because "it's too cold" or any other silly criticisms I've heard. I'm sure it's a beautiful state. Most of the states in the Northeast that border Canada are beautiful states; places I would love to live in. I'm particularly fond of northern Michigan, which looks no more like Detroit than the Texas hill country looks like Houston. But I'd never move to Michigan, because I don't want to live in Blue State America.
For a second Free State, I think Oklahoma would be the best lower population state and Texas, the best high population choice. Why not propose "Free State Texoma"?
My theory is that although there is more competition in populous areas away from the Canadian border, there are also more sustainable jobs and economies as well.

Idaho
I plan on moving to Idaho in the next few years anyway.
It is very conservative already and its relatively low population means each of us will have a greater impact
Idaho Green Energy
I work for a company that is fabricating the steel that is going to Pocatello, Idaho. Hoku Scientific is making a Polysilicon Plant there to make solar panels. This could be a great place for green energy technology. Hmmmm
Great
Sounds like an excellent idea! How about you all move to Detroit to live with me? There's basically martial law here anyways, and I could help you all decide what gang colors are popular each day!

The South had that idea back in 1860
and a damn good idea it was! Leave the tyranny of Yankee tax master and social controller to their own devices. We see how that worked out. What we need is a young, dynamic Ron Paul who is a capable orator, one who would push the Ron Paul bandwagon, not just ride in it. Ron Paul was brushed aside on the major political stage because, let's face it, he's getting a little older, not exactly a mesmerizing orator, and he just didn't have the professional public relations machine behind him that he needed to play on the big stage. But, because he's so dead on with his message, the grassroot efforts propelled him into the spot light, albeit, after the parties had crowned their nominees, and the full court media press was somewhat lifted. There has to be an eloquent libertarian out there somewhere that knows how to play tough. I thought if Ron Paul would have announced early on his pick of a VP (Jesse Ventura), and started making some other picks known, like Peter Schiff, these guys could have multiplied the Ron Paul exposure with some real tough, frank talk and captured some big time momentum. John McCain was a toothless tiger with no message and no appeal. He should have been easy to whip.

Your Southern analogy
Your Southern analogy doesn't fit. Were not talking about seceding, were talking about concentrating to a certain area so we can gain control the local government and actually uphold the law of the land.

I wish you wouldn't
You are doing the same thing the MSM did in painting RP as somehow deficient. He IS a brilliant orator. He moved millions with his speaking skills. I don't think anyone else could have done half as well. Don't buy into it that the messenger was flawed. The media silenced him and us. That is why we couldn't get national traction. It will happen again, too, no matter who is the spokesman, until we find a way around the puppet masters.
"Bloom where you are planted"
We had literally made the decision to leave the country, but now have come around 180, I will share with you why. We gave up on politics - there is too much emotion tied up with every word and phrase. We started a couple very low-key, non-threatening things locally that give us hope to help us save our little community, even if we cannot save the US. Although we cannot get neighbors to talk about a gold standard, we sure got them talking about a barter board. In less than a month with about 2 hours a week work, this little board has an amazing range of services available already.
Next, we developed a seminar that is designed specifically to by-pass so many of the "trigger" words and teach people about how they have been conditioned and how to reclaim their ability to think critically. No politics or religion discussion involved, just a good old "self help" seminar. Our first test group is Sunday - wish us luck!
Any solution that begins with "we" is not a solution. Lead by example! Then your solutions begin with "I" and people can emulate or not, but at least YOU are being a responsible human.
Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.
I would disagree with your
I would disagree with your last assertion that any solution beginning with "we" is not a solution. I think the solution in this instance can be nothing less than exactly that: a collective effort concentrated in one area.
Again I don't mean to belittle the efforts you are making locally, because it is most definitely meaningful and the most we can each do right now- but it goes back to the analogy of splashing around in the ocean hoping to cause a tidal wave. It factually, realistically, honestly will not be effective enough fast enough from the standpoint of the numbers we need to get more representation in government to implement real change.
We need to be honest with ourselves. We simply are not making waves big enough to change things fast enough, and it's because we don't have enough numbers in any one particular place to get the representatives elected to get the ball rolling. If everyone's ok with that, and with continuing splashing the water and hoping it will make a tidal wave, then hey keep doing what you're doing. But if you're looking to really make things happen, there's no other option. We need to organize geographically and take hold of the local government on up, democratically.
I think you should
start a thread about this. That will be the solution grow where you are planted. Work local make a difference. Peace & Courage

Well said, and you have set an excellent example!
The "we" solutions are an attempt to control other people, but ultimately, there is only one thing we can control: how we react the circumstances presented us. We should focus on the things we can control and by doing so, hope to influence those around us.
Excellent post.

Sounds like a great idea.I have been thinking of such an idea for many years. My son has one more year of high school then I would be free to make such a move(with or without the mrs.)The cause is bigger than anything else in my life past that point.Hawkie, Idaho sounds like a winner! Many like minded people in that neck of the woods.Too many liberals here in the east.....Keep us posted on the progress.
I agree. I know of a very
I agree.
I know of a very free county in Idaho that has only 15000 people many of which are already like minded. If I remember correctly they voted up over 30% for Ron Paul in our primary.
I believe we could control the county of if we could get 5000 people to move there. It is perhaps the freest county in the nation. No building codes etc. They recently elected a constitutional minded Sheriff.
I am currently trying to put together a group buy on a large acreage in the area to get the cost down and prepare for whats to come for the reasons mentioned above
http://newfreelanders.bigforumpro.com/the-rendezvous-f7/upda... ( you have to register to view the thread)
I have been considering just starting a free county type project for the whole county. If we pulled it off other would emulate us. However if we could get enough property for a township we could start there.
The area is a beautiful area some of the finest hunting and fishing on the planet with many wild fruit trees mixed in amongst the pines etc. Lots of natural springs in the area and plenty of water.
We could start businesses from there and many of them could be with alternative energy and self sufficiency etc. We could start our on barter system etc. it would be an opportunity to build a community almost from scratch.

Interesting, very
Interesting, very interesting. Keep me posted on things in Idaho.
I know the Free State Project is set up in NH, for obvious reasons of the libertarian/constitutionalist faction that is already strong in the area, so that's another option because if we combine our movement with them, despite our trivial differences the larger goal is the same and we could definitely make in an impact. Especially since the population in NH is such that we could easily become a majority of political activists... and the implications of the first in the nation primary would give us a huge platform to wake people up.
I was part of the free state
I was part of the free state project until they chose NH. I wish them luck but I do not see them having a majority of political activist there in the next 20 years. I hope they prove me wrong.
However another movement started after the FSP vote chose NH. It was for a western states FSP it is called the MAL Montana Alliance for Liberty and it actually encompasses Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. But is mainly focused on Montana now.
I just don't see NH as practical without a mass exodus. And 5000 is a more realistic goal then 20,000. Still it take people to step up.
I will be moving to this county regardless of if the larger projects pan out or not.

This is a great idea. The
This is a great idea. The biggest obstacle is probably in getting many people to uproot and move to the central location.
But if it were to happen, the freedom and liberty within that community would spread to neighboring communities like wildfire. It would continue to spread and eventually the entire nation would be following our lead towards freedom and liberty for a new generation.
...
My thoughts exactly.. big
My thoughts exactly.. big obstacles, but no doubt big rewards if those obstacles are overcome. Once this township was established it would be an example of true freedom that others would actually see and understand and want to emulate once again. Not to mention we would actually be able to garner representation in the bigger game of government that we truly need to have any hope of reversing the trend of government encroachment and overreach.
This is a great idea. I have
This is a great idea. I have thought of such things before and I really hope we as a movement can make something like this happen. However, there might not be many people who would actually be able or willing to move. But I can see you are optimistic and I hope you have good luck. If you are successful perhaps I will be among those who join you.
One thing I would suggest though is to perhaps try to get in with a group who already has a plan and has lots of people involved. For example the Free State Project in New Hampshire. I think it is very close to what you described.
Sorry I wiill
have to come back to this later. There are so many more of us out there that are not being politically focused on the same or every issue, But are ready to fight for the constitution and liberty. Of course organization is going to be difficult (if not impossible) A true patriot is a stuborn thing. Confuse patriotism with government and unjust war..... Sh.. well you sEe whaT IS HAPPENNING. sorry hit the cap lock button. How do we get enough constitutionalists together? Seems Everybody wants to protect something in the constitution. Let's make a deal. let's keep the constitution!!!!!!! fOR you AND for Me! Oh WE the PEOPLE! Sorry couple glasses of wine . Don't arrest me I'm at home way out in the country. If I did any of you any harm I apologize. It's up to you.Should I be charged for having a difference of opinion with you? Even if I didn't know it would be different before we spoke?
Your passion is clear jay26783.
That model certainly will work, and it is being done to one degree or another by several like minded organizations in different areas and of different scales. I don't know if any are realizing success or not. As a comprehensive solution though, it does not take into account the rapidity of the movement against liberty. I'm afraid by the time you were able to achieve your goal, the tyranny which is encircling us will already be well established. It is moving fast, and I believe our job is to resist it's advances in any way we can, waking up our neighbors as we go. Our voices have to become strong so they hear us. This is a very serious predicament we find ourselves in. Waiting for the next election is not the answer either. We as a people have to reclaim our power in this country and quick. Focus on your neighborhood is my advice. Build a local group of freedom warriors.
Vote for Liberty...Buy Silver Eagles.
organizing and mobilizing
organizing and mobilizing makes sense but centralization is not the key ... it has been proved with government, the economy, etc ...
we do need to however, understand the urgency of the situation, and act accordingly ... if we do not ... the republic will be lost permenantly
Remember this is not
Remember this is not government we are centralizing, it would be centralizing supporters for the purpose of having the best chance of effecting change. Two very different things. We need numbers to get officials into places where we can begin to be represented at higher levels of government. And the only way to do that is bringing our numbers together in one place and spreading influence from there, otherwise effecting change one person (or a few people) at a time will take forever, for demographic reasons alone if nothing else. And realistically the chances of changing the system that way are slim to none. We need to do something much bigger than what we are doing, and I think we are capable... it's just a matter of how bad each of us wants it.
It's being tried
The free state project is pretty similar to what you propose. It's not doing very well yet. New Hampshire was picked for various reasons. If every RP supporter actually moved there we would make a majority of activists in the state. Since it is already a state, it would be a lot easier to make the changes we all support. Good luck in getting that many people to uproot and move.
Very interesting about the
Very interesting about the free state project, I checked out their web site, and it's similar but not as direct as my suggestion. They are just recruiting for people to move to the state under a general commitment; I'm talking more specifically about forming a community, or at least as close to a community as reasonably possible, so that our base of supporters is all very local. That way we can wield the highest level of influence at a local level, and also carry it to the state level, which is just like you mentioned- utilizing our numbers in a politically setting that already exists, to take over an area democratically and then spread from there...
sounds like a tasty idea my man!
