Capitalism’s Self-inflicted Apocalypse

After the overthrow of communist governments in Eastern Europe, capitalism was paraded as the indomitable system that brings prosperity and democracy, the system that would prevail unto the end of history.
The present economic crisis, however, has convinced even some prominent free-marketeers that something is gravely amiss. Truth be told, capitalism has yet to come to terms with several historical forces that cause it endless trouble: democracy, prosperity, and capitalism itself, the very entities that capitalist rulers claim to be fostering.

These people are confused.
They mistake capitalism with corporatism. Or maybe they do that on purpose so as to fulfill a fascist agenda? They never stop to realize every thing they own, use, share or receive such as the shirt on their backs and the computers they operate are products of capitalism. They do not think at all but react emotionally. Else why would they not realize where these things and services come from?
This is no mistake, they
This is no mistake, they purposely falsely label it. That has always been their MO; misinformation, lies, and deceit!

Yeah, I'm just so tired of this (willful) ignorance
It's just so damn boring after a while--like, uh, do we have to explain--again--the difference between capitalism and all other "isms" trying to pass themselves off as capitalism? Oy.
And you know what else capitalism ushered in? Leisure time--big time. How else do these people think we got "the weekend"? Big time gains in efficiency, productivity, etc.--funded by capital...the real "stuff" Dr. Paul and Peter Schiff talk about...
I think I would prefer
true, free, unfettered capitalism where competition is the regulator. When government steps in as regulator the door to corruption is opened wide.
New Hampshire and Ecuador
Yes because Captialism isn't corruption proof
It must be a complete failure.
Bring back the socialism -- we are ready to bow before it now!

This guy is an Author?
Who the hell publishes the tripe he spits out!?
Nonsense!
"The conservative plutocracy also seeks to rollback democracy’s social gains, such as public education, affordable housing, health care, collective bargaining, a living wage, safe work conditions, a non-toxic sustainable environment..."
Since when have democracies encouraged sustainable environments?? The only economic system that is sustainable is one that enjoys a fixed monetary system, and where individuals pool their money voluntarily for the common, ground-up value of conservation.
And this article makes the all-too-common mistake of confusing corporatism for capitalism!
Capitalism did not cause this crisis.
It was caused by the state's control of interest rates and the money supply.
exactly!
drop interest rates and inflate, and you encourage unsustainability....
Lol, I can just imagine some liberals
recoiling in horror at this line:
Truth be told, capitalism has yet to come to terms with several historical forces that cause it endless trouble: democracy...
One must never attack the sacred cow of democracy....
Actually...
I see that this was written by a liberal. Michael Parenti. I don't like him. From what I've seen of him, his mind is littered with economic fallacies.
