U S Census Bureau visit
Today, I answered the knock on my door. I was informed at my door by a field rep that immediately or with in one week of making a new appt. with him , I would need to sit down in my home and answer a set of questions that would take about 30 minutes of my time. He said my address had been selected for the American Community Survey. He personally would be contacting one other address in my small NE town but was not aware of the actual number of ACS that other reps were conducting in my area. He assured me that it was a totally random selection of my address, it was to be annonymous but the last census could be linked to my ID " if they wanted to ID me personally, and that it was mandatory by law that I participate in this survey. I was to be questioned at a time convenient about my home's occupancy, mortgage, energy use etc.....
Anyone else had this opportunity?

Here is a link to a form for them to answer first.
PUBLIC SERVANT'S QUESTIONNAIRE
Public Law 93-579 states in part: "The purpose of this Act is to provide certain
safeguards for an individual against invasion of personal privacy by requiring Federal
agencies...to permit and individual to determine what records pertaining to him are
collected, maintained, used, or disseminated by such agencies." The following questions
are based upon that act and are necessary in order that this individual may make a
reasonable determination concerning divulgence of information to this agency

This glaring error in the opening paragraph makes me think this is not a real or valid document.

I may be
working for them shortly. I took the test about 9 days ago. I won't do the door to door thing. Been there done that. The pay is good 16-17 per hr. plus mileage for enumerators (the ones that come to your door.) 14 for office clerks. Anyone can get one of those jobs. Just pass a 30 question test. You only have to get 10 right. And they do a backroung check I think. I did it in 1990 and 2000. Flexible hrs. Decent money for temporary work. I live in a rural area and they won't let you work in pairs so I'm not going door to door again. It's dangerous and will tear your car up. There are some field jobs that aren't so bad like drop off leave and mapping but to hell with knocking on peoples doors. I was a crew leader in 2000 (supervisor of enumerators) and one of my crew got a gun pulled on him.
I never had too much trouble getting people to talk to me when I went door to door but actually the opposite sometimes and that was scary when you are where you know one could hear you scream and they don't keep up with where you are. They know what book you have but they would have a hard time finding you when or if they realized you were missing. I don't know if they will let you carry a gun. They won't let you have anyone with you although I did many times. Screw them there were places I was not going alone. Sometimes I would have to park my car and walk a while to get to a house. More than once I would end up at the end of a long dirt road with a shack at the end and 4 or 5 drunk men that were real happy to see me. Nope not doing that again. Not alone. So you don't have to answer questions but be kind it is just someone trying to make some money. Not a cop or fbi. Just regular folk like me. Don't SHOOT! Unless of course they are nuts. Some people do get crazy when they think they have a little id badge that gives the some authority.

I had these people calling throughout November and December. They never came to the house though. I told them how many people lived at the house, but that's all. Since I never mailed the survey in, I was supposed to answer the survey by phone and it would take 35 minutes. I kept putting it off until I missed the deadline. On the last call right before Christmas, I again refused to answer over the phone. They said it was to late to mail it and if I didn't answer on the phone I would be facing fines, although they did not know the amount. I still did not answer their questions.
Someone here posted a link for a questionnaire to give to the census taker that required the census taker to fill it out before we answer the survey. I printed out the questionnaire, but deleted the link. It was called a Public Servant's Questionnaire. Here is a link...

I would refuse to participate in this intrusive census.
The Ag census always tried to tell us it was mandatory, and that we could be fined for not participating. I learned they try to get you to say "I refuse to participate" so instead I would tell they WHY I thought their census was bad, and when they asked if I refused, I would say "No, I don't refuse, but I do not have time to fill out this census at this time"
There is NO "convenient time" for you to participate in intrusive surveys!
