Report: Rescued Citigroup Shelling Out $50M for Corporate Jet... WTF

Beleaguered Citigroup is upgrading its mile-high club with a brand-new $50 million corporate jet -- only this time, it's the taxpayers who are getting screwed.

Even though the bank's stock is as cheap as a gallon of gas and it's burning through a $45 billion taxpayer-funded rescue, the Citigroup's execs pushed through the purchase of a new Dassault Falcon 7X, according to a source familiar with the deal.

The French-made luxury jet seats up to 12 in a plush interior with leather seats, sofas and a customizable entertainment center, according to Dassault's sales literature. It can cruise 5,950 miles before refueling and has a top speed of 559 mph.

Holy cow

That must be one hell of a plane. In 1993, I worked on a leveraged lease deal, and bought a MD80 airframe and engines for $10 million. At that time a 747 went for $100 million. These were off-the-assembly line new. How much do 12 leather seats cost?

wonderful.

The slogan press on has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race. No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.

Corporatism marches on. They made the purchase

decision two years ago, but still plan to take delivery on the jet. Didn't even "buy american" did they? When I think of the black comedy that Paddy Chayefsky could have produced from such news, it makes my head spin.
