Forgive me if this has already been brought up.... But tomorrow is the anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. His words standing as true and poignant as ever. It is ours to continue this fight for Freedom through increased devotion to this cause.
I know that we are all preparing, (socking away every penny for TEA), but I think that this is as great an opportunity as any to send another message. Given there is a lack of time to prepare everyone.
My suggestion, a Support Bomb! (sure it is not a new idea) but it would really be something if we could get everyone to donate just $5 (nothing more, nothing less, as that is the minimum) our true goal this day instead to show the shear number of supporters, and how serious we consider the task at hand.
If someone has the ability, make more of this, spread word somehow. I trully lack the know-how to get this word out. Below is the of course the full Gettysburg Address. I think that you may be able to persuade some of your friends that might be on the fence if you remind them of the power of this great speech. That WE are in fact the Government, and that WE owe those how have gave the ultimate sacrifice to maintain our Liberty.
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation, so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not hallow—this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. The immediate, belittling
The immediate, belittling comments made by some people on this forum is somewhat discouraging at times. There are many know-it-alls who have a tendency to make condescending remarks to people without realizing that daily many new people to Ron Paul check out this forum. It doesn't do any good to diminish people's new-found excitement and curiosity by slamming them in the face every time that new person posts a topic or reply that others on this forum don't agree with.
I like to try to persuade through reason and discourse rather than bang someones head into the wall. I've learned my lesson that reason is the best way to communicate because what we are fighting for is the hearts and minds of people who have been mentally enslaved for most of their lives.
I truly did appreciate your post because I knew you were trying to stir up excitement for Ron Paul. I appreciate your kind words.

I was just defending new members on another thread, and have before. A poster suggested that to see if someone's trustworthy, look at how long they've been a member, and how many meetups they've attended. If someone has just recently found RP, or chose to be a guest for awhile before signing up, they're new. We need to read their posts, comment and educate politely, and welcome them. I too was getting pretty discouraged the past couple days. We want to get the word out, yet when new supporters sign on, they get attacked for being new, or for their opinions.
Trolls and flamers stick out by their posts, not by being new. Why would we chase supporters away with 'I've been here longer than you' and worse? I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who feels this way. Mean people suck....

So many new people to Ron Paul are shocked about what he is saying because they have never heard it before. Naturally they are going to have questions and some of them are going to sound very ignorant. I saw this one lady ask something about Obama and man, the venom was toxic. I wouldn't doubt that she never returned again.
The arrogance at which people respond is just amazing which makes them little different from the arrogance of the people we are trying to defeat.

Charlie (I think) is a classic southern liberal (i.e. conservative) and at times i have seen him throw in some good history on the south and the war as he covers other topics. I think he is great and you could read some of his archives if you like. This is from The Emancipation Proclamation. It only declares that the slaves in areas not controlled by the Union were declared free. Why didn't Lincoln free all of the slaves in every state? Because the war was never about slavery. Please do some research into Abraham Lincoln and you will see that he was much more of a tyrant than Bush yet Bush is catching up.

I know your heart is in the right place. You want to see Ron Paul succeed. Please ignore those whose first instinct is to insult. Don't let it discourage you. We are all learning more and more about the concepts of freedom. We have had many years of "education" that has brainwashed us into thinking that government gives us freedom. Many of us are excited as we break out of our slave-minded paradigms and study and learn about the true concepts of liberty.

Lincoln was no hero...
To ANY freedom loving person... His goals in his own words, had NOTHING to do with freeing slaves. His goal was to eliminate states rights.
He was one of the MOST hated men while he lived. People feared he would install himself as a dictator.
He saved a portion of the population by SLAUGHTERING another portion. While the rest of the world solved the slavery problem economically, he chose to round up immigrants (enslaved the Irish) to slaughter citizens to do it... And let's not forget, slavery was already being abandoned by the states...
So let Romney have his Gettysburg fundraiser... We'll stick to supporting those who supported freedom for all.

I agree that the post-Civil
I agree that the post-Civil War US was essentially a new animal, and a worse one, due to the previously unheard of power of the central government. But your treatment of Lincoln, the man, is unfair. The overwhelming majority of Lincoln bios, even those written specifically to cast light on the disastrous results of his actions, all understand that his motivations were not malicious.
It has been said that Lincoln "destroyed the Constitution in order to save it" (an admittedly blood-curdling notion), and I believe that's how he saw it. I view Lincoln as a man who felt he was in a no-win situation. Clearly he chose the wrong path, and the ultimate results were disastrous, but hindsight is 20/20.
Of course I understand why people at the time were outraged. Lincoln's image gradually improved until he became viewed as our greatest president, but now it has begun to erode again. I often wonder if Bush will have a similar, if more muted, legacy. He is despised now, but maybe if things continue as they are he will be viewed as a visionary (I am *not* endorsing such a thing, just speculating), ultimately suffering Lincoln's fate as people wake up to the horrors of what he set in motion. (The difference being that Bush has a clearly malicious agenda, in my judgment.)

Lincoln DID install himself as Dictator.
When the southern states walked out of Congress the US ceased to exist per the Constitution, due to a lack of the required quorum. Lincoln no longer had the privledge of President, as the USA no longer existed, only the state governments still had legitamacy. This is when he issued Presidential Order #1. He was acting as a dictator.

Regardless of what Lincoln stands for (to you, and some others) there is a message in the Gettysburg Address that transcends the bad you find in this man.
I wonder how you would have fared freeing slaves and trying to keep the US together. It is truly regardless, and I will agree that Lincoln is an enigma.
I hope that in your pursuit to help Dr. Paul, you are able to find people that are willing to look past the surface and look to the substance of Dr. Paul.
I can assure you that Dr. Paul would far rather an association with Lincoln than one with someone who thinks Retardation is some how humerous and name calling is a good way to begin an argument.

Ron Paul has stated publicly
That he doesn't believe the Civil War was required to free the slaves. It would have happened on its own. He points to countries in South America that ended slavery peacfully.
The industrial revolution which began a couple of decades after the war would have been a natural end to slavery, as machines replaced most manual labor due to cost efficency.

Don't get mad at me...i love everybody and Ron Paul too! I would bet my next commission check that RP would back up my stance on this one. Just go look for his original visit to the Bill Maher show. Maher tried to insinuate that RP was a racist when it was Lincoln that was the real racist.
I will not give any money to anybody associated with Lincoln. And i sure wish the "paulanteers" would stop referencing this man. The man was a tyrant a racist and a wannabe dictator. He makes Bush look like an amateur. The slaves (just like the rest of the world) would have eventually been freed w/o all of the killing. Killing of Americans! Southern Culture would not have been set back 100 years and most importantly...the union just might have been divided. That's right...i said IT WOULD be divided. So what? There is every chance that it would have gotten back together over time. And even if it didn't get back together what difference does that make? At least "States Rights" would still mean something. Heck i long for the day that my great Republic of Texas decides to leave the union. Good by IRS at that point. Cheers.

I admire Lincoln as you do, but there are quite a few people on Daily Paul who will inform us all about what a rotten person and president he was. I don't know if such arguments have merit, but when I quoted Lincoln in the past I got hit with a volley of indignation.
