Bailout money being used for lobbying

0 votes

Three days after receiving $25 billion in federal bailout funds, Bank of America Corp. hosted a conference call with conservative activists and business officials to organize opposition to the U.S. labor community's top legislative priority.

Participants on the October 17 call -- including at least one representative from another bailout recipient, AIG -- were urged to persuade their clients to send "large contributions" to groups working against the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), as well as to vulnerable Senate Republicans, who could help block passage of the bill.

...Donations of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars to Republican senatorial campaigns were needed, they argued..."If a retailer has not gotten involved in this, if he has not spent money on this election, if he has not sent money to [former Sen.] Norm Coleman and all these other guys, they should be shot. They should be thrown out their goddamn jobs," Marcus declared.

Contact your representative? Crap....

I don't see how that would help. Hasn't made a difference so far. We need to focus and go up to a new level. I was thinking law suits but, the courts don't obey the constitution either. Petition and redress is ignored. I am worried that we are about out of peaceful options. We all agree that the u.s. is broken but, what specifically might we do to correct our government?

Gee, how can anyone be

Gee, how can anyone be surprised by this??

Dependency.

I propose a formal legal status of "dependency", to properly incentivize people and organizations to do whatever they can to avoid taking money from the taxpayers.

If any business receives bailout money, it should be prohibited from any lobbying activities until ten years from the date of their last check from the government.

Money for Lobbying?

I don't know why this would surprise anyone. We have been lied to, ignored, misrepresented, and stolen from for a long time. How many millions of people had screamed for Congress to not pass the 700 billion dollar joke of a bailout. What did they do? They ignored millions of hard working Americans that do the right thing and passed it. They did what they felt was right, not what the people that elected them wanted. They work for us, so says the Constitution. They are stomping on the Constitution for there own personal gain. Greed will bring this country to its knees. When is enough, enough?

Time for a Revolution!

ahh, money.....

it didn't work for public schools and it certainly won't work for this marcus.

I want my bailout

I want my bailout money!

Presumably, with all of this additional taxpayer-backed

money being injected into the system, I suppose we can expect politicians to raise their prices for such favored treatment. So in addition to taxpayers being put on the hook to pay for political campaigns, now we've also got to pay for lobbyists to be able to apply their trade? I'm fighting the impulse to take a "For Sale" sign and plant it in one of my representative's front yard. I'm definitely in the wrong business. :)

Perhaps I should start a political Real Estate site; an online store where interested parties can go in order to buy or rent various political "properties".

It seems that the more difficult problem, with respect to a conventional bank robbery, will be to identify the individual(s) who should be properly labeled as "thief". :)

The only surprise in this is that it has been reported.

Why do you think it passed? Those in power stand to get richer. What did RP say? "The only ones who stand to benefit from the creation of money are those who first receive the funds." By the time it trickles down to the masses, inflation will kick in and the money becomes useless.
The rich get richer (thru corporatism) the poor gets poorer.

Shameful

It's no wonder Bob Corker and the rest ignored us when we tried to stop the first bailout.
I knew they were being greased by special interest groups all along.

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

a hanging offense in America to bribe a politician and still should be.

In China the still shoot the politician for accepting a bribe.

Wow!

Personally, I'd like to see citizen-funded elections ONLY, no EXTRA "Obama-style small donations"! Each candidate gets the same amount and that's that...
