Do We Need a Separation of Business and State?
Submitted by sleepdog on Sat, 01/31/2009 - 01:13
Like we are supposed to have a separation of church and state?
Big business lobbying D.C. for laws that benefit only themselves, killing smaller operations and hurting consumers... so many examples!!!
Take the money out of D.C. and force elected officials to act like public servants.
Thoughts?

THAT IS A GOOD
THAT IS A GOOD QUESTION!
"When governments fear the people there is liberty. When the people fear the government there is tyranny."
-Thomas Jefferson
I am more concerned about the return of my money than the return on my money. --Mark Twain
“A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.” (Prov. 22:3; 27:12 KJV)
Hey McCain-----┌П┐(◣_◢)┌П┐
It's a start, commentary now being accepted
"Congress shall make no law respecting commercial enterprise, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of commerce, or of private banks; or the right of the people peaceably to trade, barter and transact business, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Let's get this one passed and then we can start working on removing the "General Welfare" clause in its entirety!

they are inter-mingled, and that will not change. We need to watch for the super powers that are now in the making, China, along with the European nations.
If you have a government
If you have a government that has the power to interfere in the markets to set up barriers to entry and is able redistribute massive amounts of wealth- then of course you're going to get people lobbying to get a piece of the pie.
Well, yeah, we do. We're not supposed to be facist
Thank you Dr. Paul for making me act on what I already knew was right.
*May the only ones to touch your junk, be the ones you want to touch your junk.*
Well, of course
and I hope this is more of a rhetorical question than a literal one. I do like your expression, "separation of business and state". I think that's brilliant and I think we should begin using that...over...and over...and over. That other abomination, "separation of church and state" has been repeatedly so frequently that the average "American" dope thinks it's actually in the Constitution!
Again, thank you for that.
Yes!
Ayn Rand termed it a "separation of economy and state" in her book "The Virtue of Selfishness."
Humans are self-organizing, and most can clearly see the benefits provided by the division of labor and free voluntary exchange. It is government which depends on the productivity of the free market for its survival (thru the imposition of taxes), never the other way around.
Government doesn't need our money, instead it requires our productivity.

But for "commerce", as mentioned in the Constitution
And the "economy", as being affected by regulating "commerce", thus my choice of words.
In fact you could take out the Commerce Clause altogether and bring this all the way back to the States under the Articles of Confederation (which raises other issues).

Exactly
And then Reagan ruined it all with his, "It's the economy, stupid" and VooDoo economics. Much of where we are today came from the right doing the opposite of what true liberals like Ayn Rand suggested. But she warned Barry Goldwater after reading his book, "Conscience of Conservative" and explained, that he was making a huge mistake inviting what became the religious right into the party. "The Letters of Ayn Rand", Leonard Peikoff.
The free market does not exist, for if it did, I would be growing hemp for fuel, food and fiber.

That's a definite "yes".
There is a world of difference between Capitalism and Corporatism.
Under Capitalism, there is a clear distinction between public and private sectors. The public sector is very small and its functions are restricted to national defence and law enforcement.
Under Corporatism, the distinction between public and private sectors is practically obliterated. They merge into one. The state grows ever larger, taking money from taxpayers and handing it out to private companies such as Haliburton and Blackwater.

take the money out of DC
we can start right away to "take the money out of DC" by donating money ourselves to liberty candidates. It costs AT LEAST 1 million to run a successful Congressional campaign and on the average 50-60 % of that comes from special interests. If a candidate could say "no thanks" to the special interest $, imagine how that could turn things upside down. There were 1.2 million people who voted for Ron Paul, If all of them donated just 2 or 3 dollars to a liberty minded candidate, the problem for that candidate would be over. More over, the candidates need the money early on to get their websites up and hire professionals to do the marketing (websites, campaign materials, videos, accountants and attornies to stay out of trouble with the FEC). please visit me, Mike Vasovski, at C4L, thanks.

There is no Seperation of Church and State
It was merely a commentary mentioned in one of Jefferson's letters, refering to the First Amendment. There is no law, nor other edifying agent effecting this concept.
"There can be only one permanent revolution - a moral one: The regeneration of the inner man."
—Tolstoy
"The body is but a vessel for the soul,
A puppet which bends to the soul's tyranny.
And lo, the body is not eternal,
For it must feed on the flesh of others,
Lest it return to the dust whence it came.
Therefore the soul deceives and despises."
You're right, there isn't...
but there damn sure oughta be!

Congress Shall Make NO LAW
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
The .gov is to remain neutral in terms of religion, which seems like a clear enough separation to me.
