Silver in Backwardation
Submitted by Rhonda15 on Mon, 02/02/2009 - 12:43
# Silver for all traded futures contracts (whether 1 month or 12 months) have been in backwardation for seven trading days since January 21 2009
# This backwardation is about three times more severe than the mild backwardation that existed from December 8 through December 24 in 2008.

What say the dailypaul silverbugs? Silver poised for a breakout?
»

Backwardations and Cantangos ....
Will not be that unusual for some time.
The only thing that one can unequivically deduce from these historically unusual events occurring now and more often in the near future is ...
We are in uncharted territory.
Bank the info and keep it in the back of your mind.
Of course I am speaking of Cantangos for high demand items like oil, natural gas, and perishable items... and Backwardations in precious metals and non perishable relatively medium to low demand products.

I've been looking to buy silver..
The local gold/silver dealer seems to be a rip off - charging about 14 an ounce if I buy a 100oz bar - 15-16 an ounce if I buy smaller bars....Anyone know how and where I can do better?

APMEX
APMEX is selling 100 oz silver bars for $1.19 over spot - a little more if you buy fewer than 9.
BullionDirect.com
I bought there a couple of weeks ago. Use the nucleo exchange part of the site for best prices. They charge a 1% commission on top of those prices and a shipping/handling charge. If you buy generic rounds/bars it should be around $14 even for small denominations. check shipping rates first though.

Zak,
the only place you can buy near or close to spot is the comex! otherwise its 14.00 to 15.00! or more.

Hey McCain-----┌П┐(◣_◢)┌П┐
That's a pretty good deal.
.
You will probably not find it for less
and it's likely to get higher. Back in October I bought 50 dollars of junk silver for 550. which is probably really high. But I was just glad to have something, just in case. At that time my dealer said he was unable to purchase new silver for under 15.50. So he was selling it at 18.00 for 1 oz coins. I'm sure it's higher now.
Can anyone tell me the relative values of coins (i.e. silver maple leafs) to rounds of the same weight? They seem identical, but rounds cost less. What gives?
When is the COMEX supposed
When is the COMEX supposed to default again??

You can laugh it off, but it is simply a matter of time. The world is currently running in a realm of fantasy, but Reality is about to rear its ugly head. It may be three months from now or three years, but eventually, we as a nation will have to pay the piper. When that happens, the current manipulations and money schemes will be shown for the frauds that they are.
I'm not laughing anything
I'm not laughing anything off. Just wondering if this was a signal the COMEX was going to default. Know there was a false alarm before and some of the gold/silver bugs on here got pretty saucy to say the least.

At least it wont likely lose..
30-50 percent of its value over the next year, as many investments did over the past year! - or as the dollar could in the future....

What is "backwardation"
?
Backwardation
Backwardation is a futures market term describing a situation where the amount of money required for future delivery of an item is lower than the amount required for immediate delivery of that item. For example, immediate delivery of gold may cost $1,000 an ounce, whereas delivery in two months only costs $900 an ounce, with that $900 to be paid at time of delivery. It is a peculiar situation, because no rational person would buy gold for $1,000 an ounce today, when they could enter into a contract to take delivery for $900 in two months time, except when they do not believe their counterparty will be able to deliver at the $900 forward price. Thus backwardation is a signal that the item in question is in short supply.

People want silver now not later and will pay more for it NOW than they will in the future. They want the insurance policy now. Thus we have speculation. If they are right in their bet the future price will surge and you wont get it with out pain and suffering in the wallet because you are too late. That is the reason it is so expensive now not later. Having some gold and silver NOW to hedge your bets might just be good insurance.
