Only have experience with APMEX
And they've done an excellent job in my book. I've made several purchases and have been very happy with their service and speed of delivery. What I noticed the last time I was on their website was that there did not appear to be any small gold coins availabe, which is what I'd like to consider buying now. I'll have to recheck their site, but they're good!
And the point about "spending" is well-taken, too. It does take some getting used to that you're really not spending--you're converting...
I second the above experience with APMEX
They say they don't list something for sale unless they have it in stock, and ready to send, unless otherwise noted. They've always lived up to their word anytime I've dealt with them.
I've gotten quotes from them...
and they seemed WAY high in price and I did not do business with them. At least go here to compare:

I've been anxious to buy gold and silver, but can't get myself to spend $1000 or more for a single coin that you hold in the palm of your hand. It's an uneasy feeling. Would I really be able to spend this fi TSHTF? If so, will it be anything worth what I paid for it?
You'll notice that the market price for gold might be $900/oz, but buying these coins you'll pay over $1000/oz. That seems like a pretty high profit that those brokers get.
I'd love to hear more from others who know what they're talking about, I surely don't!

You Say....."but can't get myself to spend $1000 or more for a single coin "
First off you are ot "Spendng".
Secondly.....you are telling me that it makes you un-easy to trade FAKE, PAPER, Photo copied, debt for real money.
Get out of that fake paper before it is too late. $1000 an ounce will be cheap before this entire mess is over.
You will be one of those people that says to your grandchildren...."Boy I can remember when Gold was $1000 an ounce." and they look at you with a question in their eye "Why didn't you buy more."
Just my thoughts......don't take offense to it.
No offense taken!
I know that you're absolutely right! And that does make it crazy. But that paper $1000 buys a lot right NOW. And a small piece of gold... 1 oz., are you absolutely, positively certain that you will really be able to spend that coin 2-3 years from now when the SHTF?????
I like the guy's suggestion just below to buy smaller denominations, that will easy the worry a little.
I do appreciate your thoughts, keep them coming.

Small gold coins 1/10 and 1/4 and sqiurrel them away. It doesnt seem to hurt as bad! Apmex has some ok deals!
Truth is treason in the empire of lies.
small gold coins...
such as the 1/4 and 1/10 oz have higher premiums than the one oz. gold is to hold. so go for the lowest premium.

I wouldnt mind hearing about
I wouldnt mind hearing about them as well. Also, what are some of the most popular and quality coins that people purchase. All I have heard is "gold eagles" "silver rounds". I am just starting to understand the importance of gold & silver.
