Obama Warns of Catastrophe if Congress Doesn't Act

0 votes

Haven't we heard this before, under the last administration? I thought we got a new boss. Oh, right - new boss, same as the old boss.

"A failure to act, and act now, will turn crisis into a catastrophe and guarantee a longer recession, a less robust recovery, and a more uncertain future," Obama said in his prepared remarks.

As reported earlier, South Carolina senator Jim DeMint saw this coming (video).

But didn't we all?

"Never Waste A Crisis"

Puppet Obama is manifesting Rahm Emanuel's statement.

Now it is War on Catastrophe for sure, Obama sounds like...

GW more and more everyday, but his followers think he is a messiah...it is sickening...Obama is really no different than Bush when it comes to the monetary system we have, and the economic problems we face. He is simply trying to delay the inevitable by throwing more money at the problem, and by doing so making matters worse. He is not getting to root of the problem, he is simply trying to mask it with more American worthless dollars. I sure hope some of Barack Hussein Obama's minions come to this board, and start to realize their Obama is not going to bring troops home, he is not going to create real jobs, or do anything he promised during his campaign rhetoric. They were all sold a line of goods, and he is no different than any of the other politicians, and power driven people in our government.

In a rush to follow Iceland?

"One of the key players in the Obama administration’s $900 billion economic stimulus package is Obama’s new budget director Peter R. Orszag. Orszag, 40, is the director of the Office of Management and Budget, the arm of the White House responsible for crafting the federal budget and overseeing the effectiveness of federal programs. He worked closely with Rahm Emanuel in the Clinton administration - when the disastrous NAFTA was passed - and was one of the first Obama appointees to be approved.

Orszag was, after all, the founder and president of the economic consultancy firm which advised the Central Bank of Iceland - before it went bankrupt. How did Icelandic banks become so indebted? Ask Peter Orszag."

The Same Old Lie

How many times have we heard some lying politician say that if we don't act now, the sky will fall? Why do people still believe them?

Have any of you noticed that things just get worse? Look at NAFTA, It was going to provide us with all those new jobs. It was going to give us a trade surplus. A typical lie told by a typical lying politician named Bill Clinton.

The same thing was demonstrated with all the "anti-terrorism" legislation waiting for an incident like the 11 September terrorist attack. Our rubber stamp Congress voted to pass this police state legislation without even pretending that they had read it. We know they don't read these bills, and they aren't smart enough to write them. They just do what they are told.

The bail outs are just demands that Congress enrich their masters with gifts of billions of dollars. If they don't get these gifts, the economy will melt down, or so we are told. Well why not? It worked last time.

Fear Itself, and the Deadly Varieties of State Terrorism

Obama states:
"What Americans expect from Washington is action that matches the urgency they feel in their daily lives -- action that's swift, bold and wise enough for us to climb out of this crisis.

Because each day we wait to begin the work of turning our economy around, more people lose their jobs, their savings and their homes. And if nothing is done, this recession might linger for years. Our economy will lose 5 million more jobs. Unemployment will approach double digits. Our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse.

That's why I feel such a sense of urgency about the recovery plan before Congress."
*******
oh boy...hear we go again with the fear!!

read what Arthur Silber has to say about it....

"Feel the fear? Pass my plan, and pass it now, or -- our new bold, transcendent leader tells us -- the world as you know it will cease to exist in significant part.
One principle above all is crucial to remember here: whenever any individual is intent on making you act, and when he uses fear as the primary motivation to make you act in the particular way he demands, you should profoundly distrust him. It is almost certain that he is attempting to get you to do something that you might discover cannot be justified. But to discover that, you would need time and calm to consider the arguments, weigh the facts, and determine if different arguments and additional facts have been carefully omitted from those being used to pressure you so mercilessly.....

What will the facilitating catastrophe be?

Actually I put this as an answer on another thread but Denninger speaks just to that what's next fear bit re: the couple trillion that need financing and what happened during TARP.

We all remember the little crash we had in the markets last fall that created a crisis atmosphere helping TARP to get an urgent pass even as calls from Americans ran 300:1 against it.

Here's a purrrty smart guy who allows NO tinfoil on his site whatsoever named Karl Denninger.

This is his post from a few days back:

http://market-ticker.org/archives/764-Idiocracy,-Part-Deux-f...

Within his text here on Treasury he has a link to his September PDF notification to Congress on the Fed SLOSH report for the days prior in which Ben Bernacke drained 125 B in liquidity
www.denninger.net/letters/bernanke-drain.pdf
(The Fed has sole control over that)
Surprisingly draining the blood (liquidity) out of the patient (system) seems to have caused a cardiac arrest (crash) and a liquidity crisis.

Bernacke etal were at the time testifying they were doing everything they good to provide liquidity but their own charts show the opposite was true.

I don't think you need to be an Alex Jones follower to see a collaborative effort in certain circumstances.

Just found out that we over paid on tarp by 78,000,000 (billion). "Surprise, surprise, surprise." Gomer Pyle

Golly...now that is funny...

you are so right, sounds like Gomer Pyle... Like they really didn't know they were taken to the cleaners for 78 Billllllllllllllion...American taxpayer dollars...This is getting nuts...I am looking forward to the day when the regular old Gomer Pyles of this country start rioting because they have no food...maybe just maybe...we the people can do something about this horrible raping we have been getting...and receiving..

Three Reasons the “Stimulus” is bad.

The “Stimulus” package proposed by Obama is bad for these three reasons:

1) It is immoral.
The 888 billion dollars for its implementation will be printed by the federal government thus stealing purchasing power from EVERYONE who is holding US dollars. It is theft! Theft through inflation. By what moral right has the US government power to confiscate through inflation the savings and purchasing power of law abiding and honest Americans and foreigners and then redistribute it to someone else?

Since proper government derives its powers from the people, it has no power or authority people themselves do not have; such as forceful confiscation of savings and property of one person and giving it to another. The people cannot delegate to their government the power they do not themselves possess. Otherwise the government is a manufacturer of its own authority and has become a tyrant over the people, like king George whose authority was thrown off in the American Revolution.

2) It is impractical.
“Job creation” is not the purpose of a productive economy. A “job” could be digging a ditch and filling it up again, or it’s office equivalent. What economy needs is to be truly productive. No bureaucrat can determine it as successfully as the free market. Central economic planning has been a massive failure in Russia and everywhere it was tried. It forcefully takes resources from productive segments of economy and gives it to the unproductive. Let the free market work. The only moral and viable system known to man. It is a manifestation of liberty and freedom, which are the fundamental right of man.

3) It is Unconstitutional.
The Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution expressly forbids federal government engaging in any activity outside of the few limited and enumerated powers granted to it. “Job creation” is not one of the limited and enumerated powers granted to the federal government. If you cannot see all the wisdom of the Founders in limiting the power and scope of the federal government, at least have the basic integrity to obey your oath of office to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Your Money Or Your Life

Obama: Your Money or Your Life

The state keeps stepping up its fearmongering. That has always been the theme in international affairs, of course. "The [insert name of foreign people here] want to kill you and your children! So we must kill them and their children! And we must take your money, privacy, power, and sons to do it. PS: Shut up, except to sing, God bless the government."

Bush used a similar technique to bail out the banks. Now Obama is echoing Bush to get his stimulus of the state. "Print up another trillion to pay off my friends and allies, or face permanent poverty." But it isn't working as well. The state media aren't chiming in as they did 100% over the TARP. Most people, of course, are opposed. Thus the fright tactics.

Actually, after the Fed caused this depression, exacerbated by Fannie, Freddie, the banksters, etc. O is doing everything possible to make it permanent. His huge welfare stimulus will make things even worse. But like all Keynesians, he will claim that it was not enough when it fails to help anyone except the politically favored recipients of the ripoff. Next will come calls for a truly Krugmanian quadrillion bailout. A Soviet-Zimbabwe combo is the path to prosperity, don't you know?

No More $$$

I know this is long, but I'm fighting mad and sick and tired.

I am outraged at the government’s pillage of the American people. If the working class were to conduct themselves in such a manner, they would be locked up. Our “representatives” seem to believe that We The People are all stupid enough to believe the propaganda disseminated by the talking heads and dog and pony shows. The actions taken by our representatives are criminal at the very least, and certainly morally reprehensible.

My family and I have been productive members of society, paying our taxes and trying to live the American Dream. We have made investments and lost at times. No one was there to bail us out and this economic crisis has left us broken. The conduct of big business, the bankers and Wall Street thieves has stolen that dream not only from ourselves, but our children and grandchildren.

I am Mainstreet. I have worked for 32 years and my husband for 34 years, sometimes 2 jobs, to make ends meet and provide for our family. Now I look at my grandchild and fear for what kind of America we are creating for her and that whole generation in order to pay for the bankers and wall street’s bad investments. Our government is asking that my 76 year old widowed mother, myself, my children and my grandchild should have to pay for the mistakes of the “dream teams” and the elite, so they can continue to live their extraordinary life styles and collect outlandish bonuses for their inadequate jobs. If I were to perform in such a manner in the private sector, I would be immediately fired…no questions asked.

The initial $700B bailout (then porked up to $850B) received an overwhelming unprecedented response from the American People for their “representatives” to vote NO on the inflated bailout. Unfortunately, their “representatives” believed they knew better than the folks paying for the bailout or had special interests in its passing, voted to put the American People in debt for the bankers and Wall Street…..NOT MAINSTREET. Not a single dime was there to help Mainstreet and we are now being told to mind our own business when it comes to an accounting of where the dollars were spent. Imagine that! And the banks are not lending the dollars collected. Imagine that! Americans are losing their jobs at an extraordinary rate of half a million a month, can’t pay their bills, and their credit is now in the toilet. Who then is left to borrow?

My husband was laid off in November 2007 and we lost our home to foreclosure. The bank, serviced by Citi Bank, would not work with us….in fact, told us to “just send them the keys”. Our credit is now trashed. Now the house is up for sale for a third of what we paid for it. Why would they not work with us? We made a substantial downpayment on the house and carried a 70% loan. We did not use it as an ATM, and it was a handyman special that we were diligently bringing up to date. I will not get into the local government and how they tripled our property taxes, or the homeowner’s and flood insurance companies that raped us. There is enough greed to go around. Bottom line, working class Americans, their children and their grandchildren are expected to pay for the bad investments of the world bankers, who will tell them that they are not creditworthy enough to borrow any of it back. Imagine that.

END THE FED....abolish the IRS and get the hell out of my pocket.

He's starting to remind me of George Bush already

Watch as the Senate acts so courageously to battle the House over the stimulus bill. They'll shake their fists at the unfitness of the bill, and the unfairness for the little guy. They'll blow smoke on every tv talk show, and really sneer at Obama. "We've got to get this right, for the American People" they'll boldly declare. But, I'd say by this time next week, after another hundred billion or so is added as pork, they'll find a way to sign the bill into law. You know, for our own good. So we don't have that catastophy Obama is talking about. We can't have that, now, can we? Seem like de jevu from a few weeks ago.

Sick to death of this fearmongering crap

I'm surprised he didn't throw a couple of '9/11's in there, just to add the extra impetus and fear.

Are the general population really that easily manipulated ... no, don't answer that. It's too depressing.

Yes, exactly right

Going down the rabbit hole with Nader, Democrats will blame the GOP. I expect at least four years of, "Bush did it first", It's "Bush's fault", GOP should have impeached Bush when they could have", because BOTH parties focus on children and capitalize on the human need to be recognized, respected and feeling powerful, knowing they are not, nor never will be. Obama's Youth brigades are better than Bush's Christian Camps to the Democrats, who found the Jesus camps frightfully facist. The Democrats do not see the communism in the brigades anymore than the Christians saw the facism in the camps and to the independents like Nader, who has never joined a collective but has created thousands and sued government and corporations alike, unrelentlessly for taking unalienable right from humans to corporations, it's the same ol', right, left, right left right left MSM controls the horizontal, the vertical, and one day we all wake up to find out the guys in the tin foil hats were the guys controlling the picture.

A 40-Year Wish List

They want their 40-Year Wish List:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123310466514522309.html

Add the roughly $20 billion for business tax cuts, and by our estimate only $90 billion out of $825 billion, or about 12 cents of every $1, is for something that can plausibly be considered a growth stimulus. And even many of these projects aren't likely to help the economy immediately. As Peter Orszag, the President's new budget director, told Congress a year ago, "even those [public works] that are 'on the shelf' generally cannot be undertaken quickly enough to provide timely stimulus to the economy."

Haven't I heard this befor?

.

I think they warned us

about something like this before, let me try to remember...... oh yeah.
The chocolate ration may be raised to 2 ounces from 4 ounces, but only if the ministry of peace gets a major revenue boost.

This will also lead to an increase in the victory coffee allotment from 1 gallon to 4 ounces per month. However the ministry of love needs increased funding as well. So remember make sure to support the dear leaders with all of your heart.

Thank you Dr. Paul for making me act on what I already knew was right.

Exactly.

Isn't that Tim Geithner's Job???

A la Hank Paulson?

Oh, I get it, Obama has his sleeves rolled up (probably because he keeps the White House at 90 degrees F!... because we cannot expect to keep our homes at 72 deg F and drive our SUVs and expect the rest of the world to pay for it... unless you are a world citizen???).
