THE THREAD IS DEAD
All hail Michael Phelps. If only he could respond in person and say hey people, I like the mental state of a little hit on the bong and reminding all of us that he can still swim circles around us like a shark in cold water and he just wants to be a 23 year old kid exploring his world.
Are you ready to hail his fee thinking?

Phelps should have said...
"I don't even like Corn Flakes!"
Just think about the potential power of that for a sec...
Boycott Subway too
They've dropped him for doing what almost every college student his age tries at least once in their college experience. What's the BFD? Barky tried pot & coke and he's the president.
Head over to Quiznos. In fact, Quiznos should offer to sponser Michael Phelps now that Subway & Kellog dropped him. That move alone would generate Huge publicity for them. In fact, I'm off to go write them an email.

I agree with the Kellogg is
I agree with the Kellogg is crap argument, not just because of Phelps. Their food is some real deal toxic slop. First they enrich it ,(by stripping it of all its natural goodness), then They put in all the artificial, indigestible vitamins and minerals the FDA guidelines give. Then you wolf down all that high fructose, cornstarch, crap gumbo thinking your doing your body some favor. So I say lets help another crap company feel the sting of tough economic times.
Its time to make some examples!
I agree with you madgunchemist
Kelloggs is crap, I stopped buying there products
over 15 years ago.
If Phelps wants to smoke marijuana more power to him, it;s his life !

Sorry, Michael
you are a great athlete and a bad role model. At least we still have Sully Sullenberger. And Kellogg's still has my business.
What's wrong with smoking cannabis?
Are you okay with people drinking alcohol?
Out of all the people put on
Out of all the people put on kelloggs cereal and the celebrities involved with them, the majority drink alcohol and they are labeled as "good role models" and perfectly fine for their kids to look up to. I guess ruined livers, addiction, and the various other health problems are fine. Oddly enough the only thing bad about smoking cannabis is if you roll up a blunt or a joint. Which is still a lot less bad for you than smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol.
Kind of off topic but why are there allowed AA meetings which are based on addiction. But some of anti-cannabis people say cannabis should be illegal because they think it's addictive. (when it's not, anyone who uses it will agree) So why aren't they trying to get alcohol banned

Boycott Kellogg !

I stopped eating the unhealthy, processed
crap from Kellogg's a looooong time ago.
Me too...
and as strong as my feelings are, with regards to the idiocy and anti-constitutionality of the drug war, I would hardly use the Phelps issue as my reason to boycott the Battle Creek crowd. Phelps entered into a contract and had every right to either negotiate its line items or decline it in total. Besides, given that all those medals are cool, I'd never teach my children to idolize someone who swims, runs or sails fast anyway.
It is Kellog's poisoning of American (and other) youth with nutritionless crap full of mercury tainted high fructose corn syrup that has me on end with them.

Cut this Boycott crap
and this whole Judeo-Bolshevik stranglehold on the United States...Do yourself a favor and boycott your OWN job.
And look at the author of this crap. "I IDF" with Ellie Weasel quotes !
Megaphone...
Dude man, pass the Doritos.
Amazing.
The world's economy is in a downward spiral. Millions are losing their jobs and homes, future generations are facing world-wide economic slavery ...if not worse and what gets some so-called freedom lovers really animated???..their own personal weed crusade !
Grow up ...or at least go blissfully retro.. get the bong, turn on the strobe light, put on some old RUSH and stare at the blacklight posters and lava lamps... as the youth's ( and maybe your) future is sold out. How unbelievably self-centered.
As for pot and athletics, sure some smoke pot...and so does Maurice Strong who is working to enslave you. - so leave your rightous indignation of weed use for later efforts. Pot is not the most crucial thing we face now...in fact it is pretty far down on the scale when considering what is coming.
I sometimes wondered if the pot activists, once they got the smokin 'rights they have argued for finally passed, would just let the rest of the rights go bye-bye. Your priorites are really screwed up.
Rush?
I think you mean Pink Floyd. Rush was more for 1980's programmers!
As far as Phelps, smoke whatever you want, but when you CHOOSE to be a role model for kids, don't smoke bongs in public! What an idiot!
Gheigh
I don't think he ever CHOSE (lol) to be a role model. From my experience, atheletes are pretty much the wrong bunch to be choosin' for role models anyway.
And this Rush fan has partied very hard with Rush fans many, many times. Programmers???
Hey, you are right!
I agree with you (and Kellogg's) on this.
Question
Do you believe it's OK for role models to drink alchohol?
Why not?
Why not? Do you believe it's OK to for a role model to drink alcohol in public?
I don't drink and drinking
I don't drink and drinking wasn't the issue. As an individual, he should do whatever he wants. As a role model to kids, a role he CHOSE, he has the responsibility to project the generally accepted, "right" behavior. It should be noted, whether or not you agree, that drinking is legal and the other item in question is not.

Michael Phelps
exercised his right to put into his body whatever he wants to. He absolutely has that right.
Kelloggs exercised their right to not renew a contract with someone who violated the terms of their existing endorsement contract. They absolutely have that right.
* By the way * - according to the news reports, Kelloggs is not terminating his existing contract ( which they probably could ) - they stated that they will not RENEW his contract.
Both parties are exercising their rights.
What's the problem ?
Doesn't liberty mean rights for everyone - both sides ?
Remember Vanessa Williams and Miss America ? She didn't even do anything illegal ( posing in a skin magazine ), but she violated the terms of the contract which she entered into ... and was fired !
I guess the strategy is to ostracize a company
that is supporting the violation of people's rights (ie. the "drug war").
What Michael Phelps Should Have Said
Dear America,
I take it back. I don’t apologize.
Because you know what? It’s none of your goddamned business. I work my ass off 10 months a year. It’s that hard work that gave you all those gooey feelings of patriotism last summer. If during my brief window of down time I want to relax, enjoy myself, and partake of a substance that’s a hell of a lot less bad for me than alcohol, tobacco, or, frankly, most of the prescription drugs most of you are taking, well, you can spare me the lecture.
