No Gold In Fort Knox!: In Case You Thought We Had Gold Reserves
Submitted by SteveMT on Mon, 02/09/2009 - 00:37Is this common knowledge?
I just asked the question and here is the answer as well as another source. Is this a joke or the truth? We are up the creek if we have no gold reserves. Alternative hard currencies cannot be minted out of thin air! We need hard assets to mint a hard currency.
I need some answers from our PM gurus on the DP about this.
True or False?
How much gold is in Fort Knox?
Answer:
There is no gold at Fort Knox. When Ronald Regan was President he assigned a committee called the "Gold Committee" to investigate this matter. The results was staggering. There is no gold at Fort Knox. It is being held by the Federal Reserve Bank (which is privately owned by international bankers) as collateral for America's debt. This explains why there has been no audits of Fort Knox. THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT AND THE INTERNATIONAL BANKERS DO NOT WANT THE AMERICAN PUBLIC TO KNOW THIS. Do you know there was a time in American history when it was illegal to have gold coins? Did you know Americans were required to turn in their gold coins to the federal government for $20.00 an ounce? This gold was melted down and sold to foreign companies and countries for $35.00 an ounce while it was illegal for Americans to buy any gold from Fort Knox. This is and was the biggest robbery of monies ever from the American people.

I was surprised to learn that the contents of Ft. Knox are actually an asset on the balance sheet of a privately owned corporation and banking entity. That’s right, the Fed owns the gold. The U.S. Treasury is holding the gold for the Fed, not necessarily for U.S. citizens. Both the Fed and the Treasury are on the line if the gold is gone. U.S. citizens will be the losers. The “faith and confidence” behind the global money we issue will.

So if we go on the gold standard and eliminate the Fed
where do we get the gold if the dollar has crashed?
My thinking exactly!
This why I put this together. Where do we get the gold to mint?
The answer is we don't know
The answer is we don't know because they won't let us audit it with someone we trust like Ron Paul, who tried I believe and was denied.

What does that tell you that they don't want anyone to do an
audit. Nothing to hide?
There is gold there
Or, there was the last time an audit was permitted...this was in the early 1980's
The GAO did a partial audit...and while they did not visit every vault and count every gold bar...they did find gold everywhere it was supposed to be.
They went through about 1/5 of the gold that was supposed to be there, and found no discrepencies between the books and the actual vaults.
This is not to say that some gold is missing or there is less than they are claiming...but simply the last time they looked there was gold there.

30 years ago? why won't they
30 years ago? why won't they permit an audit now?

Who's they?
Who's not permitting an audit?
Actually...the real question should be who's not requesting an audit.
If the GAO requested a full audit...I don't think the Dept of Treasury would have the ability to say no.
I'm sure the reason is that we're overstating our gold reserves...or perhaps because we're understating the value (I think they're still accounting it at $42 an ounce or something like that...).
It should be audited, I was just correcting someone who said there's no gold there. I'm pretty convinced there is gold there still.

I don't know that there's no gold...
...the fact of the matter is that no one knows if there is or isn't gold at Knox.
Well, when I say no one, I mean none of us. I'm sure the president knows as well as the men in charge @ Knox. It would be hard to fool those assigned to protect something that wasn't there. But as a general rule, there has not been an inventory at Knox in some time as I understand. And there probably won't be anytime soon. It sounds plausible that the Fed Reserve is holding it as collateral on loans; I wouldn't doubt that.
Makes you wonder who you can trust, doesn't it?
If that's the case, do what I do. Trust no one.

Someone has got to know! The President, Congress?
Ron Paul? Are they sworn to secrecy about that also?
Does this mean-----
I have to quit saying "I wouldn't do 'this or that' for all the gold in Fort Knox!"??!
If this story is true then
If this story is true then that saying is even more true. ;-)
I say that also. the answer is, I don't know.
Another apparent conspiracy to deal with.
I recall hearing Ron Paul
I recall hearing Ron Paul say "We don't know if there is any gold there" in regards to Fort Knox.
Bernanke did admit during a banking comittee that they discuss the prices in gold in regards to selling it.
I think America is being completely robbed of gold by these thieves.

Here's what I come up with.
If you're going to believe wiki answers, then you have to accept wiki explanation...

"It ain't what ya don't know that hurts ya. What really puts a hurtin' on ya, is what ya knows for sure, that just ain't so."
Then here is more information. The point is that the answer
was given so matter-of-fact, like everyone knows this, that I was shocked to read that this was true.
That no audit of the gold has been done since the 1950s, is true! Why?
Excerpt:
The gold stored at the Fort Knox is not called the "Gold
Reserve "any more. It is called "deep storage gold" the
implications of which are questionable. The point raised is if
it does not remain the U.S. Gold reserve anymore and if it is,
then why is the label changed. Tom Valentine was an independent
journalist and a key string of the alternate press in 1970's
that led to the partial audit of Fort Knox. There are
suggestions that only a single vault was opened as a part of
the audit and it did not have the expected amounts. Only some
poor quality gold probably melted from the gold coins that were
seized in 1934 was found.
The facts on paper however remain to be the most dependable
answer which is the current value of gold holdings at 147.3
million ounces and no complete audits since 1950's.

Steve...
I would guess that it was stopped being called the U.S Gold reserves in 1971 when Nixon took us off the gold standard. We no longer needed gold "reserves" to back our dollar.

America does need gold reserves when gold is perhaps one of...
the last hard assets that we have. When one is nearly bankrupt, I was assessing what do we have left to use for the necessities America needs, like the strategic oil reserve. That is why I did some research and found this out.
Steve, I didn't say
we no longer needed gold reserves, I said we no longer had to call them reserves. BTW, the reason we left the gold standard is because we didn't have enough gold reserves to pay our debt to foreign countries... and we still don't. When this country goes bankrupt, the gold will go with it.

I went to Ft Knox once
there was very little security, I was a truck driver picking up lead practice rounds of ammunition for naval vessels. I drove across the fort with no security had my blank rounds loaded and left the fort with no inspection. That makes me believe there is nothing of high value at the fort.
I put this together awhile
I put this together awhile ago..I'm glad I'm not the only crazy one who thinks the same thing..lol
