Trevor Lyman's New Project: Five for Freedom
I talked to Trevor Lyman this weekend about his new project, Five for Freedom. The idea is to leverage the power of lots of us contributing a little bit so that it adds up to something huge in spreading our message. This is the same formula that catapulted Ron Paul to national attention during his presidential campaign. Trevor wants to leverage this formula get the Freedom message out on mainstream TV.
Because the economy is in the dumps, the cost of buying airtime on TV is going way, way down (and a lot more people are probably watching!). This is a tremendous opportunity for us:
To give you an example, right now we can broadcast a one hour show to the entire state of Montana for somewhere between $500 and $1,000 (and this would include running some ad spots to market the show’s appearance on that station). Montana has a population of 1,000,000 people.
What could be broadcast? One thing Trevor mentions on the site is Aaron Russo's documentary, "Freedom to Fascism." Imagine the power of thousands of channel surfers - people who don't or can't get out on the internet - running into that! Beyond that, the Ron Paul community has a wealth of creative talent that could be broadcast, so we can all potentially participate at the grassroots level. This is a way that we can take our message beyond the internet onto television, and reach a much larger audience.
What he's asking for is $5 per month from each of us to make it happen. This is a creative, free market solution to one of our biggest problems, and it is further enhanced by the fact that Trevor has set up an affiliate marketing (click the affiliate tab) program to help promote it. Our community has demonstrated that we have the money and can raise it, but we need effective organizers to put it to the best use.
With the affiliate program, you get 10% of the revenue of everyone you sign up. If you're helping to promote Five for Freedom through the affiliate program, you become a partner both in spreading hte message, profiting in the long term from its effects, and sharing in financial profits in the short term. This powerful combination gives all of us more incentive to help promote the message. I have been advocating something like this for a long time this is the one area we have dropped the ball. If we can't get our message in the same venue that most Americans get there information from we will continue to get our butts kicked. I think this is a good idea and certainly worth a try.
Certainly RP has said we need to increase our numbers, - probably in my estimation by at least ten-fold.
Both of the main parties use money and lots of it to get their message out and many of these people earn a fulltime salary in the process. If we are going to compete we have to do the same thing!
There does need to be a disclosure statement, but it is certainly worth a try. It would be a big advantage to run a full time campaign getting the message out.

People started off really positive and enthusiastic. About halfway through the posts turned sour and suspicious.
To me it is sad when projects of strong freedom workers are shot down before they even get off the ground, the target of what seem grudge wars and knee jerk suspicions.
I think we have to work harder to link hands with fellow patriots who are trying, even if you may find better ways of doing something. I'm happy to see Michael and Trevor link up on a positive project. I'd love to see a lot more boosts for other freedom media: republicmedia.tv, breakthematrix, ronpaulforums, etc. etc.
Our numbers are so small, the enemy is so vast, we on the freedom front need to stand strong together in friendship, to have the best chance of being effective in communicating our message.

some of the featured heroic tax rebels are now languishing in prison.

I'm a foreigner who was really excited by the RP campaign. I realize how important the USA, it's people and it's economy is for all of us.
I would've contributed to RP's Presidential campaign, but as a European I am not permitted. Does this law still apply for this kind of campaign being suggested? I'd love to help in some way.

Everyone does realize that this can be done for about $25 a month in every area via public access television.
All that is needed is for someone in that area to file the form and pay the monthly fee and submit the video(s) that simple.
www.restoretherepublic.net and freedom.tv layed out the entire process for everyone and very few were interested YES AARON RUSSO'S Restore The Republic.
In this manner there is no need for a board of directors nor any need to keep books all that is needed is 5 people to chip in $5 a month in their local area.

This is true.
We are already doing this in Austin, Texas. We play MANY freedom oriented films weekly.
The problem is getting people off of their arse, and into a Public access studio to learn the equipment, and do the shows weekly.
So Trevor has come up with this idea for people that may not have the time, or the will to do this. I am supporting both approaches.
Public access, and micro radio stations are vital to bringing in new people.

Needs disclosure...
For this type of operation to be successful, it needs to have details out in the open. It should disclose what the operating costs are, any fees, commissions, kick-backs, etc. It should probably be setup as a Non-Profit Organization (501.C3). I would prefer it's books be available upon review and the money to be handled by a 3rd party that is unaffiliated with the people involved. There should also be a 5 person volunteer board of directors that have voting power to make sure funds are being used wisely and correctly.
You have a lot of people here that believe in government coverups, conspirancies, etc. (not that they are wrong nor right)... This organization needs to be run correctly, or it will not succeed.

Isn't this the same or similar mission to "Break the Matrix?" What ever happened to that money? Lyman claimed to have hooked some "big" money folks in California. Did they wiggle of his hook?
Network marketing pyramid scam?
It's great that he's trying to spread some kind of message but it appears to me that as the same time Trevor Lyman is trying to get rich through a network marketing pyramid scheme. The problem with these schemes is that you soon run out of people wanting to sign up, then the system folds. If you can get in early at the bottom of the pyramid scheme, as Lyman and his associates apparently have, you can make some money, but the system self destructs in a short time due to to mathematical laws. The number of people needed to keep it running starts rising exponentially to where the numbers needed are astronomical. Are we to believe that Lyman isn't aware of this? This is not the way to have a sustained project. This the way for a few people that get in early to smugly walk away with a suitcase full of money as the project collapses. If you really want a "free market solution," you go commercial by soliciting advertisers.

ThePatriot also had a good idea, which has been discussed here before (and others have done), and that's doing it ourselves, locally. But for those of us who are short on time, $5/month is an easy way to get involved.
