Today Geithner unveiled the government's "plan" the Senate passed the "stimulus" bill, Bernanke had a dog and pony show up on the Hill, and the market hated it.
Which just goes to show: The spokesmen for the financial elite that run this country (Paulson, Geithner, Greenspan, Bernanke, etc.) may be able to BS the president, the congress, and most of the American people. But they can't BS the market! The market smells a rat.
Everything was broadcast and analyzed on all of the way-too-many 24-hour news channels that this country's economy currently supports.
Isn't technology wonderful? I bet you never thought you'd be able to watch the slow motion, real time implosion of your country from the comfort of your own PC. The news channels, which, in spite of the fact that there are so many, all perform the same function, which is to transform this tragedy into entertainment.
I made 10% return yesterday on the drop
I was expecting a decline when they opened their mouths just like the bailout in the fall. So I took advantage of it.
However, the drop started before they began speaking (about 200 pts) so was it really what they said that caused the decline?

Stress Test
I believe one huge reason the market hated it is because it will implement a stress test for banks. This would reveal the true status of huge insolvencies .... heaven forbid, bring some of the light of day to the hidden dirty secrets.
But the "too big to fail" banks won't face any consequences for
not passing the test, and propped up at all costs. Therefore, they have no accountability...once again. Much ado about nothing, me thinks.

I think it's that you have to sign in first and then hit reply at the post you are replying to. If you hit reply and THEN sign in it ends up on top. I think that's how it works.

There is actually nothing to resist at the moment. We are on cruise control technically to watching the dam break, the avalanche ensue, the..., ah you get the point :).
Needless to say I like seeing this nonsense continue its ever tightening spiral too, because it means the sooner things are really going to "change".

Bernanke is wrong to equate this with the Great Depression
scenario, when responding to Dr. Paul. He brings up Milton Friedman saying that the Fed should have expanded the money supply in the Great Depression, and I agree that's true. But a lack of money supply is not the problem in THIS crisis. He should read the article by Anna Schwartz in the WSJ. Schwartz was Friedman's co-author with him of "A Monetary History of the United States." As Schwartz says, "this is not due to a lack of money available to lend, but to a lack of faith in the ability of borrowers to repay their debts." http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122428279231046053.html?mod=...
