Christians Use Prophecy to Excuse Laziness

Christians Use Prophecy to Excuse Laziness
In response to my two previous columns regarding the current development of a devilish New World Order, many professing Christians wrote me with comments to the effect that we should not be concerned about whatever global tyranny may be developing, because "it's all a part of God's plan," or "Jesus is coming soon," and similar statements. I, too, believe in the imminent return of Jesus Christ to earth. But, then again, so did Christians from every generation over the last two millennia........

Good article

I'm glad to hear Baldwin putting some Christian misconceptions in check. Too many Christians are resigned to taking no action because they think Armageddon is imminent.

Register as Republican and Vote for Ron Paul

Right on Chuck!

I just sat and listened to a sermon on Sunday out of the book of Revelation and the only answer given is to spread the gospel. The pastor refuses to discuss politics because the church will lose tax exempt status.

I would love to find a church like those of our founders. If there is one in Minnesota, let me know.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV

"It’s not like I’m just trying to win and get elected. I’m trying to change the course of history." ~Ron Paul

I'd rather stand in front of the Lord someday

And feel good about saying "I fought the devil and his minions".

They're Not Alone

Intellectual sloths and moral cowards infest all known groups, faiths, races, and nationalities. As my mother taught me long ago, cretins, creeps, and criminals come in all colors, speak all languages, and worship all manner of gods (or none at all). Many of our fellow travelers here go to heroic lengths to justify their own inaction. "It's all a big club and you're not a member." "Don't buy gold, Uncle Satan is just going to confiscate it again." "They have more guns than us." "Drugs are bad, m'kay?"

Many so-called "Christians" haven't a clue what their "sacred text" instructs, and many so-called "libertarians" would outlaw peaceful behavior (like drug use or usury).

As much as I am a vigorous philosophical foe of Christianity (and all theism), I would not indict Christianity solely on the basis of the misbehavior of some "Christians." The ad hominem logical fallacy is wrong no matter where it is aimed.

I remember it clearly.. It was 1635..

I was nervous on my new assignment. A priest to a small community who's priest was retiring after 60 years of service. It was a happy time and I became well beloved by the community.

Then 2 years later the plague started and I began doing a lot of funerals. Each time I would say..."It is Gods will....Blessed be the name of the Lord." Soon, 50% of the village was dead and people always asked me "why is it God's will?" I just said it is, we can't know my child.

Then only 15% of the town was left. I was discouraged but held to my faith. I was at the rectory when I heard a knock on the door and answered.

Whack !! I was hit on the head with a stone. As I slipped into unconsciousness I asked why?

It is God's will is what I heard...

The plague was a result of bad housekeeping. Not God's will.

Jewish Gypsies who followed cleaning out the home on passover did not have the mice and thus the plague.

Proof they were the devil. God was punishing us for tolerating the Christ killers. Of course many were burned at the stake or skulls smashed because of it.

It was Gods will.

awesome post Bad Hair Conspiracy!

This reminds me a little bit of this story about faith. A flood was about to hit this town. All were warned about it. One man decided to stay. The water started to creap up and started to fill his first floor. People on the way out of town invited him to join them. "no God will save me" he said. Soon the water got so high he had to go to the second floor where it was still dry. A boat arrived at the mans house. "Jump in the boat!" said the people. "No God will save me" he replied, and the boat went away. Soon the water got so high, the man climbed to his roof, where the water continued to rise. The man cried out "God why haven't you saved me?!" I believed in you, and had faith in you, how can you let me die like this!?" God was like, "dude, where have you been?" "Don't you remember all those people I sent to help you?"
**Not trying to make any points here, just always liked that story

The age old question!

The chicken or the egg??? Is someone using prophecy as a script ooorrrrr, did prophecy tell us this was going to happen because time is not an issue with God? Hmmm. Are we happy that the Bible prophecy is coming true, or do we use it as a warning and stop it from happening because we BELIEVE the BIBLE and are smart enough to know what to do about it and therefore add years to win souls to the God of Jesus. I definitely say the later. But many Christians say the former and that is why I have posted the thread "Christian leaders coming around??" We have to get to the Christian leaders and it is happening. Late. Is it too late?

Agathon says it well:

This only is denied to God: the power to undo the past.

The purpose of Phrophecy..

is to Avoid the Prophecy..

IF it comes true then your not paying attention...

George Santayana

Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
George Bernard Shaw
We learn from history that we learn nothing from history.
Goethe
Patriotism ruins history.

And finally H.G. Wells
History is a race between education and catastrophe.

Prophecy is tricky

The revelations are difficult to interpret. However, I am a christian and I have hope in the prophecy that in someway the Unites States is not part of the NWO. In describing the beast who is made of different animal parts and heads (representing each country) the Lion ( Great Britain) has Eagle wings (USA) that are plucked off and not part of the Beast.

Some say this is the US Colonies breaking away from the British Empire, but I hold hope that No eagle wings as part of the beast means no USA part of the global government. Can the most Christian nation on earth stand as the one example of freedom and liberty

I have heard " If this is a dream, then let me sleep" from many

of them I have had discussions with about religion. I never did like that answer. Another words, let us leave it to the Almighty. I believe that we should only say that after doing everything we can to fix something. That is why he gave us a mind, to think of and come up with the answers. Only then should we approach the Deity for intervention.

While I generally agree with

While I generally agree with your statement, I think you have the action/faith part a little backwards:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
(Pro 3:5-6 ESV)

We are called to take action, but that action derives from God's direction. We should seek him before we act, while we act, and after we act to bless that which we have done. It is an understanding of complete dependence upon God... BUT we are to act. God has given us wisdom in the Bible to guide our actions and has promised His power to help us on the way. We are take the knowledge and do the things which we have been commanded to do: to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God.

God walks along with us as we go. We must never forget that without God, we can do nothing.

Agree. My point is why ask God for a miracle when the miracle..

for something was already given, i.e. vision, when cataract surgery exists; healing from appendicitis, when there exists an appendectomy. These treatments, developed by inspired people, were the miracles for everyone to share. That is not backwards. The Bible says many things that can be interpreted many ways, not that I do not accept the the goods things. Faith comes into play when your intellect becomes the limiting factor and is not sufficient.

One big, heartfelt "AMEN!"

One big, heartfelt "AMEN!" to Chuck Baldwin.

We should not use prophecy as a crutch to excuse inaction.
