Am I the only one?
Submitted by DaisyFL on Mon, 11/19/2007 - 15:23Hello fellow Ron Paul supporters!
I've never posted before today, but I felt compelled to because I have a few questions.
I've spoken to several people about Dr. Paul and I keep hearing the same thing from them: "Are any of Ron Paul's supporters 'real' conservative republicans?" most of the people I talk to think RP supporters are "crazy", "anarchists", liberals or Libertarians.
I was thinking about this and I began to wonder if I am the only "Traditional Christian Conservative Republican" in the group?
Am I the only person who actually supports the Iraq war but knows it's far more important to save OUR NATION than build others?
Am I the only person who doesn't hate Dick Cheney? lol
Most of the posts and articles I see on RP refer to Dr. Paul as a libertarian and most people I see on RP forums don't seem to like calling him a republican, I'm curious what the reason for this is?
Thanks so much for reading this! I would appreciate your insights.
See you at the Tea Party ;)

your not alone
... I don't love cheney tho
A real independent for Ron Paul
I've voted for a Democrat, a Green, an Independent, and a Libertarian for President. (I'm 0 for 5 so far, I'm hoping Ron will break that trend.) I take a good look at the candidates and vote for who best represents me. I'm supporting Ron Paul this election because I'm consistently Pro-Life (a position that extends beyond abortion to include opposition to the death penalty and unprovoked wars,) I'm for balanced budgets, and I'm for constitutional government (limited federal powers.) I'm an engineer by profession. I try to solve problems. I do that by formulating a theory and then testing it. I think giving states power to solve problems allows 50 simultaneous experiments to be run. May the best approach win, and the best approach for your state may not be the best approach for my state. What we have now is a federal government that formulates a theory and then implements the solution without ever testing it or analyzing the data. For example, the farm bill was supposed to support the small family farmers. Take a look at a recent Time magazine piece on the farm bill to see what a disaster that has been.
I'm also in favor of checks and balances and divided government. Whether the next Congress is controlled by republicans or democrats, I believe a Ron Paul Presidency will provide the checks and balances to their runaway spending that George Bush and his first 6 veto-less years was unable to provide.
There's no requirement at this party....
to wear name badges...we don't huddle in various corners at the ""crazy", "anarchists", liberals or Libertarian" booths...or at the "Traditional Christian Conservative Republican" booth for that matter. We mingle and laugh or crash and smash in the public forum. Its not a prayer meeting or the ACLU...its America thinking out loud and it is glorious. Welcome, it is wonderful to have religious republicans on board...vote for Ron Paul in your primary as often as possible.
My definition...
I'd consider myself a libertarian. To me, that means I really believe in the things the Republican party stands for. To me, that means I'm more Republican "than they are."
http://www.jimmyliberty.com loves Ron Paul
Republican for life
Have been a Republican for life and Ron Paul is (too me) the most Republican candidate I have ever seen.
Christians who are pro-war
Jesus never said blessed are the war-makers.
I'm in the same boat
First off let me say that Dick Cheney is not Darth Vader.
I am of the opinion that Cheney and Bush really do have our best interests in mind but are just wrong about how to go about protecting and furthering them.
I am a "Real" Republican. Always have been, since I can remember. I voted for Bush. I have never voted for a democrat.
From my viewpoint it is really interesting how the most conservative and principled candidate is being blacklisted by the party of conservatism. Everytime Dr. Paul talks about Bush's 2000 foreign policy stances it just gets brushed off as....'oh well, that was before 9/11, it's a different world now!'
Is it really a different world? No, its not. It is only in the sense that we as Americans have had our eyes opened to how strong some in the world actually feel towards our spreading of the American values we hold so dear. Which unfortunately more often than not boils down to our porn and absurd materialism, not exactly our best exports, but these days they seem to be at the top of the list.
Not to mention the damage we have caused by meddling directly with force or indirectly with the support of force applied by others.
We need to really take a stepback, and by we I mean the Republican party, and 'think' about what caused the 9/11 attacks. Its ironic that the republicans are always attacking democrats for being the softies who play on peoples emotions when that is exactly what they have done in the last few elections. Fear is an emotion, and they have played on it and it looks like the "frontrunner" Her Giuliani is continuing that trend.
All in all I do not see how so many are writing off the most principled and honest man running for president. When you think about it, so many vote for people because of what they say they are going to do. But when you boil it down, how many politicians actually do what they say? Not many! Thats why a vote for Paul is at least a vote where you are getting guaranteed results...and his case I believe they would be positive results.
There's somethin' happenin' here...
Power To The People?
Welcome Aboard
There are tons of traditional-minded folks here. Great first post. See you at the tea party!
Yes, you are not alone
I am a conservative, republican christian. I am shocked when I talk to other church members and they are not for Ron Paul.
Yes...
I am a small government, fiscally conservative, narrow minded, right wing, fundamentalist, dogmatic Christian! I am just not sure how to post that without sounding arrogant... :)
There are many of us here...we all know that the Constitution is the only way we will return this nation to the Republic it was intended to be. Ron Paul is the only candidate that will step up and do the job. Otherwise, it is Article V.

Ron Paul - Lion of the Constitution
The reason I put my website
The reason I put my website GOPrising.com up - http://goprising.com/ft/campaigns/newGOP/
was to PROVE to people that Ron Paul is getting support from Republicans and that people are actually becoming Republican in order to vote for Ron Paul.
Given the response here however I am beginning to question whether it is really true. I think that far too many people here are doing nothing - and merely hoping that a third-party opportunity emerges.
In truth, that is why I think people are relying on the media circlejerk. So that the media can do the actual work of selling Ron Paul to the GOP.
Likewise, many of the meetups are finding that their canvassing work is devoid of real volunteers.
If people aren't willing to tell their friends/family/etc, or their neighbors - and instead are relying on the media to spread glowing stories about fundraising; then Ron Paul is gonna lose and lose bad.

I'm 36 and I have known
for years that there was no difference between R and D.
In no way do I think the war is just and know that we went in based on lies.
Cheney is missing a heart and horns as far as I'm concerned.
Am a republican? Yes, I think so....at least I believe in what the Republican party used to mean.
I have to say...
I'm all for helping others in their pursuit of happiness but only when asked. We were not asked and we didn't go there to free them. If we did we failed miserably and are enslaving ourselves in the process! I am definitely not for pushing my help agenda onto anyone. Now imagine forcing an entire country to go for it under false pretenses! Also, we are ignoring a VERY important piece of the Iraq puzzle: The Fed! They are loving to finance it all!
Sorry for you that you still support Bush/Cheney and their unlawful agenda. they should end up in jail as far as the current Law goes. And you my dear should have your head examined!

I'm with ya. The war is
I'm with ya. The war is probably the last thing I came around on, but Dr. Paul really makes a good case. He won me over
5% of people make things happen
10% of people watch things happen
85% say "What happened?"
conservative atheist
with pagan tendencies and liberal sexual views.
that should feed their craving for hype ;-)
I'm a Republican and always have been!!!!!
43 yrs old
Family (Young Kids)
Voted for Bush Twice - (mistake, couldn't stomach Kerry)
Voted against Clinton
Voted for Bush & Reagan
Small Business Owner - Worked for Largest Corporations in world for 15 yrs. (now I understand large corporation do NOTHING unless they make a buck off of it)
View myself as "Traditional Christian Conservative Republican"
Dislike Dick Cheney/Bush's agenda
College Educated w/ masters
Never donated to ANY candidate until I donated to Ron Paul.
I do not support the Iraq war, because as soon as we leave it's going to be a quagmire. The Iraq religions have been fighting amongest themselves for 100's of years. The US cannot force a democratic society on them. 9 Trillion in debt and counting, somone is going to have to pay the piper.
I am NOT a 911 truther, nor do beleive in many conspiracy.

Hey! Why is -anarchist- in quotes?!
As an avowed anarchist, I'm not sure how to interpret that. I'm totally real, totally an anarchist, and totally voting for Republican Ron Paul in the primaries and in the general. (And despite what you may have heard, I don't own a cookbook of any description, and I'd never bomb anyone.)
Now you can tell all your Republican friends: "Oh my God... there ARE anarchists over there!" ;) Welcome!
betrayed the trust of Christians
Christians have more reason than most to support Ron Paul. Usually and for the most part we support the conservatives who are generally understood to be Republicans. however..
The Republican party has been taken over by false conservatives who do not want smaller government and who care nothing for Christian social values. The Republican party has been usurped by liars. Now I never ever would support an openly socialist candidate as the Democrats are (forced redistribution of wealth from one individual to another individual) but that does not mean the current assembly of those who call themselves Republican are in any way conservative. They have willfully betrayed the trust of Christians. You can tell a tree by its fruit.

I can agree with almost...
...everything you say, except your very first statement.
I've shot at someone and have been shot at. I was raised Catholic, and I do believe in the Golden Rule, but I do not believe in a god anymore, but I can respect Jesus' true teachings. I'm a scientist, naturalist and believe in kindness and justice, liberty and freedom and understand that comes with responsibility and accountability...and have happily done so most of my life....
I am at equal threat if RP doesn't win, but I have no bones standing beside you, kind Sir to fight for what is right - in whomever's eyes you see it.
... and don't forget that Jesus was a jew...
and he never EVER mentioned changing his religious tradition. He tried to fix some of the wrongs and got nailed for it, literally! The concept of God has become irrelevant to me. And last time I checked, it was still a concept! I got into buddhism very happy I did. Now there's a concept that makes a lot of sense to me! And I don't ever push it to anyone!
So, Ron Paul supporters are people! All kinds of people! Real people, not hidden agenda people, not divisive people, not we and them people, us people, We-The-People people. LIVE FREE OR DIE people!
"You take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill and you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes. -- all I am offering is the truth, nothing more."
I am a Christian conservative...
Ron Paul is too.
Libertarian / Republican, who cares?
One of the biggest problems we face in our political process is the labels we asign to everyone. Ron calls himself a Republcian, so he's a Republican. Period! Who gives a crap if he has a Libertarian philosophy. The labels mean nothing.
But of course, the Republican establishment will try to discredit him by saying he's not a "real Republican". It means NOTHING!
The fact is, you don't have to be a Republcian to like Ron Paul. And you shouldn't have to be. That's the whole point. He's got appeal for all Americans.
I'm just a
Small Business owner that deals in precious metals all the time and sees first hand how the falling dollar is making everything more expensive for everyone.
I was Independant but registered Republican to vote for Paul in the Primaries. I became a delegate for my town (not too hard) and we've made some good things here in Maine.
Personally, I'm fed up with fake Republicans like Collins approving things like free birth control pills to a school in Portland to little kids without parents consent. I spoke in the my county's committee meeting a few months back and they agree, they too are sick of liberal 'Republicans' getting their way.
I've never been involved in politics before, but it's fun and hopefuly we can help make the world a better place.
Religion-wise I was raised Jewish, had my Bar-Mitzvah, but when I was old enough to think for myself I became a 'free agent' so to speak.
I still practice good human values, but I don't practice a set religion, I found it disgusting how every religion out there would claim that they were the one and only and if you didn't practice that religion you'd go to hell or something.
So technically I'm an Atheist, though I respect other people's religions as long as it doesn't effect me or my family's life.
Just an observation...
What I've noticed is republicans who are inclined to support Guiliani, Romney, etc. claim there are NO republicans supporting Ron Paul, and democrats who don't like Ron Paul (usually for his anti-abortion stance) claim ONLY republicans support Ron Paul! This leads me to believe he has plenty of support from all types of people, and more than enough prejudice from all types, too.
I know you're not alone: one of the sources I use to get Ron Paul news is http://www.covenantnews.com/ because they added a section just for Ron Paul. Take a look at that site, you might enjoy it.
Reminds me of the Bob Dylan Song
Except it would go:
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the LEFT.
Here I am stuck on the right with you.
Ron Paul
love it!
Sorry to nit-pick, but that's from a song done by a one-hit wonder band called "Stealer's Wheel." Love the parody though!
And As I said on another thread I can't find...
I'd love to know how much Stealer's Wheel or whoever represents them would want for the use of that song for, oh, about a year or so... I'd definitely throw in a buck or three, it's a perfect campaign theme song in many ways, and good music is vital to winning politics if you look at either recent or not-so-recent political history. And who knows, maybe whatever's left of Stealer's Wheel are a bunch of RP supporters???!!! :) Does anyone here know?
JMR
Yes...
...that would make a great campaign 'theme song.'!!!!!!!

Power To The People?
I would define myself as a Conservative Christian.
I voted for Bush both times, Dole and Bush #1 before that and can honestly say I have ALWAYS voted a straight Repub ticket.
I love liberty. Ron Paul is my man.

I understand your concern
I think we, as Christians should be more concerned about the false popular notion of Christians being led by folks like Pat Robertson (endorses Rudy!?) You are not alone---there are numerous Christians I know who are for Ron Paul. I attend a "Reformed" church (fair to say it leans Calvinist) and they especially respond to the notion of the "Rule of Law" promoted by Ron Paul. So many are blinded by false patriotism (war is always ordained by God). There are lots of Christian websites supporting Ron Paul...I even started a small myspace.
www.myspace.com/christiansforronpaul Now, yes, you will find some strange friends who joined the site. We should stick to our principles and not act like Pharisees judging others by labels--not saying you are.
