Mississippi Passes Legislation Protecting Gun Owners During Martial Law
February 11, 2009
Mississippi lawmakers have passed a bill to protect the state’s residents during martial law. On the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi website, Phil Bryant announces the passage of SB 2036. The legislation “restricts the power of a peace officer to confiscate firearms and ammunitions in an emergency or during a time of martial law,” according to the website. It is significant that Lieutenant Governor Bryant mentions the law applies to martial law.
Mississippi senator Merle Flowers authored the bill and referred it to the Judiciary on January 6. It passed the Senate on February 4. According to the Mississippi bill status website, the act amends Section 33-7-303 of Mississippi Code of 1972 and “explicitly restrict the power to confiscate firearms and ammunitions in an emergency.”
Mississippi passes the law reaffirming the Second Amendment at approximately the same time a number of states are introducing and passing resolutions and bills declaring sovereignty from the federal government and buttressing the Tenth Amendment.

H'mmm
what do they have to back it up with?
An army, allow the citizens to join all their firearms into one?
Few million down there huh?
Oregon passed an anti-gungrab bill in 2007
The Oregon Senate passed HB 2370 which transfers emergency powers in times of catastrophe from the State Police to the Oregon Military Department.
Included in the language of the bill is a prohibition on the confiscation of firearms in times of declared emergency. It also allows a person whose firearm is seized illegally by a government agency to recover all costs associated with the return of that firearm.

40 acres in central Mississippi
close to Carthage - $2500 per acre
I'm only familiar with Olive Branch and Sardis. Where's
your land located? Approximately. Do the 40 acres include a mule. :)

I was talking to a person who didn't know that after the civil war the African Americans were given 40 acres and a mule. They said I was crazy. I told them to Google it.

sardis ms
that's just down the road form me. I dont have 40 acres or a mule but I have chickens and a pond full of crappy and brim.
For years, Sardis was my favorite summer fishing spot. My wife
didn't care for the early-rising nature of the activity though. To her, "roughing it" meant staying at a hotel that had less than 3 restaurants.

It's in central ms, part pastuer part woods with a pond!
I use to work in the fields did some plowing with a mule but that was a ways back! No mules but we do have lots of turkey and deer - lots of deer!
I used to go deer hunting in northern Mississippi when I was
a younger man. I'm going to send an email to my brother in Memphis. He's trying to get out of Memphis and move further south somewhere in Mississippi. If it's ok with you, I'll include your email address and let him know that you've got property for sale. (no spam. don't worry) I'll wait for your response before doing anything.

You know if there's an state out of all the states it's mississippian's that have the most individual gun's, plus we have a rainy day fund, were not broke yet.
So what are they going to do if the Feds come in anyway?
Sue them? States no longer have their own militias, so this is pretty useless in my opinion. Until America is ready for a revolution, the Feds are going to do as they please. Waco, Ruby Ridge, and little Elian the alien come to mind. The chosen one's DEA is still doing drug raids on medical marijuana growers, when he has ordered them to supposedly stop. Who is really running this country? It certainly is not Obombya. The puppet strings are becoming ever so visible. Why can't the average person see this?
Mississians do not care what the state passes!
If anyone tries to come in and confiscate guns in Mississippi, I can guarantee there will be a fight, many have been itching for one for a long time!
This is right out of the George Orwell play book.

Something CLEARLY wrong in Mississippi!

A number of States, I
A number of States, I believe it is more than 10, have passed similar legislation in response to the illegal gun confiscations during/after the Katrina disaster.
If I'm not mistaken, the federal government also has similar legislation as well which I believe was part of a 2007 bill.

Been working my tail off...
all day today...just heard! I'm so proud of our state legislators today!
They've been really voting on our side (or I hope they have). I know sometimes things aren't what they appear but they've been making good moves and votes in the last few weeks.

In economics, yes.
I think we are definitely educating people on money.
As for stuff like this legislation--I think there are just a lot more people who don't like the federal government than we realize.

I'm guessing many of you didn't read this legislation.

As noted below, I certainly agree. Spin, that politicians post
on their websites, does not constitute law that will be examined or followed or applied by any court. The text of the legislation should be closely examined prior to high-fiving each other. The referenced article proclaims something which is absent in the actual legislation.

What's awesome is that ...
Mississippi is protecting its citizens from pwer-hungry government. Did you read the legislation? It protects citizens from confiscation of guns and ammunition, as well as from laws that prohibit their reasonable use.
No it does not.
"Section 3(b) In performing his duties under this article, the Governor is further authorized and empowered:
(1) To make, amend and rescind the necessary orders, rules and regulations to carry out the provisions of this article with due consideration of the plans of the federal government, and to enter into disaster assistance grants and agreements with the federal government under the terms as may be required by federal law."
"under the terms as may be required by federal law."? So, the state asserts such "rights" as federal law will allow.
How does that section buttress the 2nd Amendment or the 10th Amendment or any other amendment? The practical meaning is that they won't take your gun(s).....until they want to take your gun(s).
