buying silver for first time - help!!

0 votes

ok guys I need your help, i'm new to precious metals and am not sure how i should go about this. I have about $1500 cash just chilling under my mattress. I want to hurry and get it into something of value while i still can, so I'm guessing silver is my best choice. Can anyone tell me if just buying $1500 worth of silver eagles would be my best bet? And where should i buy them from. Also, after i buy them how can i sell them if i need to?

Thanks for your help.

The last time I bought silver

I used EBAY, I think that will be your best deal.

Look for ones that say free shipping

I

I used to use ebay, but when the price collapsed, i still couldnt find much under 16 an ounce and recently it seems everything goes for 18-22.00 an ounce.

With $1500 cash, you should be able to walk into a coin dealer

And get at least 101 ounces. Generic rounds and bars are what you want. If you need to re-sell, you already know how to get there.

There

There isnt a coin dealer around (northeast ohio) that has anywhere near that amount in stock unless you want the new 2009 eagles, and they want 17.00 to 21.00 for those. Theyre all largely out of generic bars and rounds save for two or three here and there.

I

I got a promotional ad in the sunday paper today from Littleton Coin Company. They are offering 2009 Silver Eagles for 15.95 with free shipping. The offer is good til March 23. For anyone interested their number is 1-800-645-3122. The promotional code is 9FE104. Three coins per order max.

im a stock broker

and i buy them from ebay as well as my clients. try not to pay more than 16 a peice you will be fine. when silver was down to 10 dollars in september i was able to sell all i wanted for 16 dollars its a safe bet. buy rolls try to not pay more than 320 a roll. for some reason morgans get more money but peace dollars have the same silver content so go with peace dollars all you want is the silver value.

Buy and Sell at Spot

Start a club in your neighborhood for patriots to buy and sell at spot price. But make sure you deal in a public location with witnesses to avoid deals gone bad.

APMEX

Hell, you're just right down the street from APMEX, you can order from them and save bigtime on shipping by picking it up.

Yea!

Got my first two orders from them. See previous post.

Buy these

Silver Buffalo Rounds. Probably the best price out there right now. Safe easy transaction and will be easy to dump if you need to.

Gold

Just broke the 950 barrier in overnight trading. Pretty good sign.

I just read recently at Kitco that a mere 6-9% of the population owns physical gold. When the people of the world see that their money is worthless on a global scale, people will rush to a true holder of value that just can't be created out of thin air. History proves this time and time again.

Chances are the Stimulus Bill will pass one way or the other to be signed by President Obama.

Our current and most recent United States government has, in the past 10 months alone, expanded its debt by an amount that took 200 years of previous administrations to accomplish. More monetary injections will soon follow as government sees their other attempts to "rescue the economy" were fruitless. More wood will be the call of our government campers around this fire. Our history shows this to be true as well.

The Chinese governments have already stopped buying US Treasuries and have begun to sell them instead, although recent reports in the news are trying to say that is not the case. The Chinese government simply changed course because of the deterioration of our economy, but now you have Geithner acting as the pot calling the kettle black and is accusing China of manipulating their currency. This retrenching of the Chinese economy now has even further reason to continue to dump the dollar after remarks by this new administration. Reports fluctuate as to just how many Federal Reserve Notes they hold in reserve, but conservative estimates peg this at $3 Trillion.

Iran has converted its petrol-dollar reserves into gold recently. US Dollars will be flooding our economy in the very near-term future and this already on top of the upcoming $800 Billion plus bill soon to be injected, with $2Trillion plus from Geitner. This is a recipe for true wealth to emerge in gold and for this wealth to see the light of day in the very near term.

When I say wealth, I mean the ability to buy out your current debt olbigations in the blink of an eye and the opportunity to start new.

As of January 30, 2009 Zimbabwe raised its official gold price to Z$100 million a gram. The increase is still behind the Zimbabwean parallel black-market gold price of around Z$160 million a gram. This is in the country where bread is a bargain at Z10,000,000 a loaf. Keep in mind that the Zimbabwe currency was pretty close to parity to the US dollar a mere 20 years ago. In just twenty years of inflationary monetary policy an ounce of gold skyrocketed to nearly Z5 Trillion an ounce and that increase in gold took place over a matter of a few years. In Zimbabwe a few ounces of gold can set one up for transition between their change in currency.

Of course, even with the high price of gold in Zimbabwe, they still have had to grapple with a skewed exchange rate, foreign currency shortages and the threat of nationalization. Sounds familiar doesn't it.

It will have been a pleasure to have seen the light of this economic tunnel before the masses do. The shiny light of gold has shown me the way.

The Rocketing Value of Gold and Silver is Inevitable

There are so many variables in determining how to buy gold and silver. Do you want to store wealth? Do you want to acquire it as an investment? Do you want it in an easily swappable/tradeable/spendable form (coinage) that comes with a premium, or in bars that have a lower premium but might not be as useable when the stuff hits the fan? With your $1,500, you might want to pick up some gold as well (they are available in 1/10th and 1/20th coins). Of course, if and when the stuff hits the fan, I don't think it will be long before gold and silver take their rightful place as currency again.

Right now I'm with a new group of buyers and we're buying as much gold and silver as we can. Even so, we're hoping the value of silver and gold remains or even goes lower because we want to buy tons more before the value shoots up... and it will rocket upward. When it does, those with gold and silver in their pockets (or safes) will be in the best position financially to not only help yourself but help others as well.

You'll get a better deal

if you buy refinery products (1-100 oz bars) than if you buy American Eagles.

Buying Silver.

Do a Google search for Silver. Several coin shops should show up. Most will mail you Silver, you pay shipping.
These same coin shops will buy back your coins.
However, if you plan on making a profit I would suggest holding on to them until the buy back price is right.

Here are a few URL's:
I've had good service from here:

Also, my wife bought some Silver coins here this week:

I've been using this company for about 8 years:

Go generic!

Generic silver is the best & you can always sell it quick at a local coin shop if you need to.... where are you located?

I spent

$1000.00 for a metal detector to find my own silver coins.

I've been looking at getting

I've been looking at getting into metal detectors. I picked up gold panning over the summer and I feel as though the prospecting metal detector would be the next reasonable step. The guy at the gold panning shop tells me that a good detector will cost me about $1000 total and that I would be able to take it down to the river and sweep the river banks for gold.

Are you using your detector primarily for relic hunting or do you also prospect? What type of detector are you using? Any luck so far? What State are you in?

As of now

I am searching for coins, it is a White detector and yes I have found some coins and a lot of lesser metals. I still work full time so I don't have much time to search, My best find was a1944 and a1956 half dollers at a school yard within 2 inches of each other. Im a newbee.

good one

I'm sure it will pay for itself in no time. Good luck

Go local!

I would definitely go to my local coin dealer and buy 1oz to ten oz first. I made the mistake of using my debit card and paid 120.00 fee. Cashiers checks are traceable and cost me 40.00 that I could have used on more silver, both times online. You can place orders with your local dealers for large orders also ( usually no shipping cost). I like to know the people I trade with personally, and if I need to sell I can use local contacts. Keep your address confidential and don't give Id, its not necessary. Buy protection if keeping physical around, a must for peace of mind. O yea! my dealer gives me some great deals just to keep me coming back, and they usually like Ron Paul. Coin dealers are out there on the front lines, and I like to support the troops.

dw.... hold of for a few

dw.... hold of for a few weeks or so.. I think silver could go back down to the 9ish range.. the COTs are indicating that the manipulators are at it again.. you may be able to get more ounces for your money! then again the shorts could get overun.. I guess if you buy now don't panic or get upset if the price tumbles a little it will come back!

I Agree

I don't know about 9, but I think it will slide back a bit below 12 near term. But what do I know? I gave away all my silver to the poor.

You are paying for the U.S. Mint when you buy eagles.

If you want silver, then go for a 1/oz. Buffalo. APMEX is great place to start. They have the cheapest shipping and they will buy back anything they sell. I've been happy with them.

I agree. Generic is just as

I agree. Generic is just as good as the silver that has an Eagle on it. Don't pay extra for premiums.
