I have lost count of the blank stares in response to
telling people that the Federal Reserve is not a government institution, but a private consortium of international banks.
And even better, someone will always say "But it's 'Federal', duh!".

Recently, at a dinner party, I was seated next to a man who is
a loan officer at a bank...He didn't know that the "dollar" isn't backed by gold.
I worked in support at regions bank
for about 5 years after college, I had loan officers that called me to have me explain to them how interest was computed. Also had loan officers call me to explain to them how to balance their own check books, SIMPLE ADDING AND SUBTRACTION, the qualification to be a loan officer was you looked better than the average used car salesman or pharmaceutical rep.
Thank you Dr. Paul for making me act on what I already knew was right.

Government Controlled Education
My sister-in-law has a bachelors degree in accounting, a masters in finance, works for the Department of Treasury and did not know the Federal Reserve was a private bank.

While it is difficult to generalize,
it has been my experience that the more time people spend in schools, the less they know, and the more indoctrinated they are.
This is especially true in college and post graduate activity, and by the time they get a PhD, they don't know anything at all except the Communist Manifesto and the subject matter of their thesis study.
When I encounter a bright young student, my advice to him is always the same. "Avoid schooling, and get an education".
It is absolutely true!
I know a guy who has a MBA who didn't know a thing about the true nature of the FED.
According to Eustice Mullins, the CIA is the largest publisher in the world and they control the choice of text books for use in public universities!
Not Surprising
I know business graduates who can't tell you where currency comes from, or how monetary policy is created. Universities have become glorified vocational schools.
