The 'stimulus' bill is 1,071 pages, making it impossible for anyone to read it before the vote
Submitted by Michael Nystrom on Fri, 02/13/2009 - 12:25
The vote is imminent.
Rep. John Culberson, TX claims the "stimulus" bill must be urgently voted on today -- because Speaker Nancy Pelosi is leaving at 6:00 PM for an 8 day trip to Europe.

even if the thing was...
Read to me on tape, I think I'd be bored to tears on all the random drivel tossed in under the "stimulus" guise. Just vote no!
I guess I am supposed to be surprised?
Have you seen Obama's cabinet?
Like a CFR coffee break.
Horrifying....equally as scary as the 1071 pages of spit being used to distract us from reality.

That clip was way too short!!

the unfunniest joke of all the mostest unfunny ones
A guy goes to the Post Office to apply for a job.
The interviewer asks him, 'Have you ever been in the service?'
'Yes,' he says. 'I was in Iraq for two years.'
The interviewer says, 'That will give you 5 extra points toward employment,' and then asks, 'Are you disabled in any way?
The guy says, 'Yes 100%...an IED exploded near me and blew my testicles off.'
The interviewer tells the guy, 'O.K. In that case, I can hire you right now. You can start tomorrow at 10:00--and plan on starting at 10 AM every day.'
The guy is puzzled and says, 'If the hours are from 8 AM to 4 PM, why don't you want me to be here before 10 AM?' '
'This is a government job,' the interviewer says. 'For the first two hours we just stand around drinking coffee and scratching our balls.
No point in you coming in for that.'

Obama isnt even signing this
Obama isnt even signing this into law until Tuesday. So why the rush? They could have had more time to read it, there was no rush for the vote other than Democrats who had vacation plans. I dont know why people can't see the lies and the manipulation.
Stimulus Wiki
Thankfully though, an enterprising fellow has harnessed the power of Wiki to create a way for many to contribute to the deconstruction of the bill.

Gotta love it :)
Thank you for the link!
Our whole constitution
using 6X9 paper, 12 point type, single space from preamble to last amendment is only 18 pages long. Our whole nations constitutional law is based on an 18 page document. and for one unconstitutional law (read article 1 section 8 of the constitution) takes 1071 pages.
"An unconstitutional act is not law; it confers no right; it imposes no duties; affords no protection; it creates no office; it is in legal contemplation, as inoperative as though it had never been passed."

Does anyone know
if the gun control clause and electronic medical record clause is still in the bill?
Get those state sovereignty and state issues going boys!
That's what I'm wondering too
This is the stuff we should be mega concerned about, in my opinion. The rest is just special interest, spending garbage like we're already used to.

999 is 37X27 1071 divided by
999 is 37X27
1071 divided by 9 is 119 which is 9-11 backwards.
Wonder what craft is being used, duh.

Why would 99% of them
do their jobs and read it? What is their motivations? They are set, work with the elite, so they don't care about us.
This Rep/Dem vote is just another farce to make you THINK they are different. Republicrats - period.
It's all about them keeping their money. Even if we vote them out of office, they are rewarded with a pay increase and job offers from dozens of corporations who are looking for lobbyists.
AND, WE continue to pay them their full benefits, from the govt. The corporatists need not pay any benefits!
Government stimulus. Ok, let
Government stimulus.
Ok, let me write that again....
Government <<<<<<<<<<< stimulus.
Notice they don't call it citizen stimulus.
...
Bingo.
Its not just the stimulus bill either.
Do politicians read even a fraction of the legislation they vote on? No, of course not. With bills of this length, how could they?
Politicians get briefed. If you want to know who really runs the country, there's the clue. Who writes the legislation? Who does the briefing?
It is not an accident that Ron Paul is known as "Dr No", based on his voting record :-)

Absolutely
I raised this with a local politician prior to an election and he agreed that it was impossible to read these things in detail because of time constraints. They are briefed - so we are governed by advisors - whoever they may be. We vote for a politician - we get advisors. In the UK they say these senior civil servants (sorry forget the US term for that one) have been doing these jobs for generations. And people don't believe in conspiracies?
Indeed. Are you a "Yes Minister" fan?
Behind every elected Jim Hacker there is an unelected Sir Humphrey Littleton pulling the strings.

Boehner is not an appropriate example
John Boehner voted FOR the Biggest Bailout of the Banks in September 2008.
It was the costliest socialistic move in the history of man.
Sure its wrong to bailout anyone that makes mistakes
but Boehner bailed out the Big Banks with whats supposed to be tax payer money. He's a bad American.
agreed
Fortune Favors the Bold
though I don't care for either, the first bailout was more repugnant.

RTBA - the Read the Bills Act
Time to get over to DownsizeDC.org and put in a word for the Read the Bills Act which requires Congress to read bills out loud before voting and that the public are given seven days advance notice of the bill in its final form.

Nobody read that either. And yet, it passed.
We have imbeciles in power, and have had for way too long. Thing is, unless there's a coup of some sort, we are stuck with them. The U.S.A. is finished.
It would appear that the only practical strategy, if indeed it
is possible, would be to get the 3 "non-partisan" GOP senators back onboard. If that could be accomplished, then the democrats could not successfully use a motion for cloture in order to shutdown debate.....that is, if I've counted the numbers correctly. If that can't be done, then it's a done deal. Time element? Hmmm, that's not good. They appear to be gathering their forces as we type and read here.

Just to put the size of this in perspective...
I have a Bible that is 730 pages.
makes sense; their religion
makes sense; their religion is all about redistributing wealth and spending money they don't have, so it should be biblical in proportion.
"...biblical in proportion." Well said jeffwhite.
Hey, maybe you could loan 'em some of your trillion dollar bills...or redistribute a couple my way. :)
Ok, one would be good. I won't be greedy.
