Food shortage solutions?
Submitted by Blaise on Tue, 02/17/2009 - 10:42
My kids have a topic for co-op this week for their current events class about the food shortage and finding a solution for it. I know you wonderful people here are so full of information so could someone point me in the un-politically correct direction other than what the media wants us to think?
Thanks!

Industrial Hemp
In ye good olde days, Gruel was a porriage made from hemp nut. Hemp oil, meal and nut are highly nutritious, completing the amino acids in a vegan diet, so dutinbg a food shortage, where being a vegetarian or vegan is not a choice, the addition of amino acids, Omega's are important, and being hemp grows like a weed, because it is an herb, the seed can be cultivated to produce grape like bunches that can keep a population that is nutritionally starved, healthy.. a natural supplement.
Eating for sustaining the body, mind and spirit (Go chocolate!) comes much easier when the only thing on the shelf is a head of cabbage or celery when one has hemp... but I'm positive the FDA has approvesd some other nutritional supplement that people will consume because food will not be what it is today if shipping from the southern hemi fails, and it may.

Rarely have there ever been food shortages....
Most food shortage situations here in the Americas, and in the rest of the world, have been because of food distribution problems - this is a social problem, not a problem of not enough actual food being produced. (something the zpg people would like us to think)
Even during the Irish famine food was being grown in Ireland - The British rulers had priced the Irish out of the market place and food was being exported.
Food is used as a weapon in times of conflict - during the Ethiopian famines of the 80's the government was routing donated food away from the starving and to the military and the ruling elite.
The same thing is happening in Sudan today, it happened to Iraqi's I talked to who had lived under Saddam's rule, and has happened in every war I know of.
An article on how it has been used as a weapon in Zimbabwe -

A solution?
1 - A well armed populace that can't be pushed around by its government or thugs.
2 - A diverse food supply of international, national, regional, and local distribution networks.
3 - Knowledge of how to grow, hunt, fish and safely store your own in times when one of those networks breaks down to fill in any gaps.

Just today..
Have been seeing articles re: Dairys selling milk cows to go into hamburger ... because now can only sell milk for 1/2 of the cost to produce it. Also saw a headline about a major grocery supplier filing for chapter 11.
Food ideas? Here are things I'm getting ready to try. Putting up a greenhouse. Raising rabbits (1 buck and 3 does will put more meat in the freezer than if you raised and butchered a steer.) Rabbit manure is ideal for raising earthworms. Feed the earthworms to catfish in a barrel. Catfish meat is very good, and if raised in this situation won't taste muddy like river catfish might. Also using earthworm "castings" to enrich garden soil (in my greenhouse). Also want to try hydroponics. Can use that to raise some food plants in the house during the winter, enuf to keep a family in veggies. After researching and finding all this, I'm feeling much more comfortable about our ability to provide food even if all we have is a city lot/house. Even if a food shortage doesn't come, I know this food we raise will be so much more healthy for a person to eat than anything we can now buy.
HELLOOO!!! What about the lost FOOD SUPPLY???!!!
In the News: Central Valley in California is denying farmers 100% of their water allocation, because of some tiny fish! This will leave the farmers unable to produce a crop, they are unable to renew operating loans.
The news story focused on the lost jobs, farmers going out of business.
When is our country going to realize the disastrous effects of so called 'habitat restoration' projects and regulations?
The families needing food should be the top consideration.

LOL, Thanks!
And wolves are cute, cuddly, friendly creatures. The head of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Wolf Recovery Project told me (In all seriousness) that when our ancestors built fires and stayed up all night to keep from being a wolf's dinner, the wolves were really only after the horses---not people! Hmmm!
Wolves, smoke a pack a day.

Good Idea!
Thanks.
I am not sure what food shortage
you are talking about. Do you mean the coming food shortage in America? or regarding those starving in other countries?
I do not yet see the food shortage in our nation nor do I hear mention of it on the MSM. I see lots of food tossed in garbage cans and hanging off of people's hips and thighs. I do believe that a shortage is coming, but the masses are oblivious.
I also suspect that our gardens are going to be affected. My garden, last year, was different. I had strange fungus on produce, that I have never before witnessed. The production numbers were down, I attributed to less bee pollination. I read somewhere that the fungus has to do with chemtrails, but who knows.

if you go to www(dot)thetrumpet.com and search food shortage they have a lot of information that I believe to be reliable. BUT, they are a religous web-site that many find offensive. I like their info and just disgard the rest.
good luck!

Ethanol serves a very important purpose.
Its purpose is to be a placeholder to block government development of GOOD alternative energy sources, like bio-diesel.
