Should we have a 9/11 style investigation into the financial crisis?

From Fortune (CNN Money)...

Congress should appoint a commission to investigate what went wrong in the capital markets and how to prevent it from happening again.

NEW YORK (Fortune) -- After yet another -- but not-undeserved -- public flogging of Wall Street's remaining CEOs before Congress last week, it has become more than a little obvious that such hearings have lost their ability to be either shocking, entertaining or informative, and are accomplishing little of substance.

Instead of political theater, what is desperately needed now is a 9/11-style commission that will investigate how Wall Street's highly paid executives brought the capitalist system to its knees. This commission needs to be both armed with subpoena power and fronted by individuals of integrity. While such a massive project is both costly and time-consuming -- the 9/11 commission took 20 months to fulfill its mission and spent $9 million doing so -- the need to shine the light on the truth of what happened and why is every bit as essential to our national security and national fabric as the study undertaken by former New Jersey Governor Tom Kean and former Congressman Lee Hamilton after the tragic events of September 2001.

"It is a good idea," J.P. Morgan Chase (JPM, Fortune 500) CEO Jamie Dimon wrote of the commission approach, in an e-mail exchange with FORTUNE…

Wouldn’t it be convenient to make an authoritative list of who is to blame for the financial crisis “official” and unquestionable? I wonder how much input the panel would ask for from people who have been warning us about this crisis for years. How much blame would be placed on the real culprits? How much blame would be placed on bad government policies or an unsustainable fiat money system? I’m guessing not much, if any.

great idea

Maybe Paulson, Greenspan & Phil Gramm can run it.

Only if they keep calling it

Only if they keep calling it a 9/11 style investigation. Most "conservatives" know that the answers to a financial investigation will be all lies. Maybe if they keep adding the title "9/11 style investigation" to something people already know to be a lie they will start to understand more of the big picture.

Thermal expansion?!?

You want a report written which spits lies in the face of whoever reads it? I can save you the trouble. The reason the economy crashed is: thermal expansion. There you go. That ought to make you feel better when the SHTF. Read fast because you don't have a lot of time...

federal investigations?

no thanks.

might as well ask the thief / thug to prosecute himself.

all future patriot actions

all future patriot actions should de-emphasize federal power, and emphasize state power.

I'm no longer voting for any federal office of any kind, unless ron paul is the name...as his involvement is educational.

I will no longer be calling for federal investigations, solutions, help, aid, or anything.....and will not support anyone that does.

I will be researching state, county and city government, and start educating myself on those levels.

I will attempt to influence decision makers at those levels, and encourage them, especially state legislature to get some balls and fight for increased sovereignty.

Who dunnit?

...what is desperately needed now is a 9/11-style commission that will investigate how Wall Street's highly paid executives brought the capitalist system to its knees.

The article says that we need to find out who dunnit, and then accuses Wall Street executives.

The Federal Reserve dunnit. But they couldn't have done it alone. The government gave them monopoly power on money production. The legal tender laws prohibit all competition on money.

Let's Legalize Competing Currencies by Ron Paul

You mean another cover-up that costs taxpayers millions?

Seems sort of pointless to me.

If they really want to get to the truth, all they have to do as Dr. Paul.

good point

first we have to CLEAN THE HOUSE!(Throw the traitors out)

"How can we justify to the unemployed and underemployed in the United States the incredible cost of maintaining a global empire?" - Dr. Ron Paul

Yep that's what we need... hire a bunch of bank CEO's

to investigate themselves and we taxpayers get the bill. Sounds like America to me!

"All great truths begin as blasphemies."

"Human beings with love and compassion are some of the most beautiful creatures in the universe... Those without are a plague on us all."

That too would be nothing but a joke and contempt of the people!

They would probably have Bernake and Greenspan on their committee!

That said, do we need one? Of course. Will we get anything like that? No, of course not.

Yes.

Then they could print another comic book with all their reports and findings for us.

Yes, visuals would be helpful

in teaching kids and people who don’t like to read remember how capitalism and free markets can ruin an economy

Why?

Are 2 government lies better than just one?

Wow!

My thoughts exactly! To a tee BigT! I read the headline and had the exact same thought.
