soldier I think he knows he shouldn't be there. He's between a rock and a hard place. He's angry, and the police officers he's speaking to are angry. It's a no win situation.

that's exactly what's going on
i spent a year with the army in Iraq. i knew before i got deployed we shouldn't be there, but i signed the contract. i hated the things i had to do. then you reach a point where you no longer care. you're no longer the person you were before the deployment. you only get joy from watching others suffer. then you come home and everyone is scared of you because you talk about death like it's going to the grocery store. some of us recover while others continue to struggle.

Well when he said "I don't see you in my town"- I wasn't so sure if he knew that the US shouldn't be there.
No real problems with this soldier
This is not about the entire war, this is about the Iraqi police being reliant on US troops and equipment for every little thing. Whether or not we should be in the country is no choice of this soldier. He has a job to do no matter if he agrees with it or not. This tirade was about keeping himself and his fellow soldiers alive, and for the Iraqi's to take some responsibility for themselves. I would probably feel the same way he does.

Well they'd obviously stop
Well they'd obviously stop being reliant on US troops and equipment if the US just left. Those policeman just got those jobs so they can earn money enough to feed themselves and their family- they don't give a fuck about killing other Iraqi's- and they especially don't care if the US has to risk their own troops and equipment. It was the US's decision to go into Iraq- no right to complain that the Iraqi's aren't doing anything- they don't have to do fucking squat to satisfy any US soldier.

You're talking about the war as a whole, this soldier is speaking in terms of survival. If he could just up and leave, don't you think he would?

Why would i join the military? Some people think it is patriotic to do what ever you are told without question. I find it strange.

Sounds to me like he's mad at the Iraqi's as if they owe him a favor. No Iraqi owes any US citizen or military member ANYTHING. Not ONE thing. Even if a US solider donated his live savings to an Iraqi family and was the nicest guy ever- THEY DO NOT OWE HIM ONE SECOND of their time. I'm sick of people holding the military to some holy standard- the military hasn't provided defense for anyone in the US for decades upon decades now, anyway.
And it was the soldier's own decision to join the military- he has to deal with the consequences of occupied people who rather see Foreign invaders die than themselves over nonsense. This solider just like a lot of would be more than happy to simply see Iraqi's kill each other as long as one Iraqi group can be identified as the "Government" and the other as the "terrorists".

yelling at the the highest ranking person he can get to listen. They need to leave. It is not our business what goes on in Iraq. Let them have their civil war.
