Student Arrested For Classroom Texting
Wisconsin girl, 14, nabbed after refusing to stop messaging
FEBRUARY 17--A 14-year-old Wisconsin girl who refused to stop texting during a high school math class was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, according to police. The teenager was busted last Wednesday at Wauwatosa East High School after she ignored a teacher's demand that she cease texting. The girl, whose name we have redacted from the below Wauwatosa Police Department report, initially denied having a phone when confronted by a school security officer. However, the phone was located after the girl was frisked by a female cop. The Samsung Cricket, the police report noted, was recovered "from the buttocks area" of the teenager. The student was issued a criminal citation for disorderly conduct, which carried "a bail of $298," and had her phone confiscated. The girl, who was barred from school property for a week, is scheduled for an April 20 court appearance on the misdemeanor rap.

I hope they throw
the phone away. ewe! icky.

This happened when...
- Teachers stopped hugging students
- Teachers no longer could beat you silly
- No child was left behind
- etc, etc.
The teacher should have parental rights when they are in charge. The problem is the students know the teachers have no ability to do anything so they just ignore them. They need to be put back in charge.
Sure, there was a "few" bad teachers that crossed the line. You can't prevent this but the way they are preventing it just causes more problems than the original problem. Welcome to Government.

The first problem is that cellphones/myspace/facebook (social engineering tools) are like purified crack to these kids..take it away and they freak out and go through information withdraw.
The second problem is of course Police in the schools arresting kids/tasering kids...etc.
So what's the solution? any ideas?
The school should have turned her over to the parents
Why should the tax payers flip the bill for day care. If the kid does not want to learn then just kick them out. We need a lot of uneducated workers to replace those illegal immigrants. Combine that will elimination of welfare and we have willing Americans who will work for min wage!
why should the taxpayers
why should the taxpayers foot the bill even if she does want to learn?
I agree 100%
I agree 100% with you on that one. I am starting my kid in private kindergarden next year. However, I think that for some reason people in this country would never buy off on that. For some reason we believe that every kid is entitled to an education and it would make our country better because of it. Well look at our country, is it better?
if kids want an education,
if kids want an education, they should try the library.
i taught myself graduate level mathematics and austrian economics using that nice lil building.
if a kid doesn't want to learn, all the money in the world won't change it. some people are natural idiots.
if a kid does want to learn, teachers and schools and huge globs of money aren't necessary; the child will seek out the knowledge for himself.
Indeed. Opening books (and
Indeed.
Opening books (and reading them of course) does magical things. I finally realized this in college.
1. Turn off the tv/computer
2. Find quiet place
3. Read.
4. Learn what you never could have imagined.
Think for yourself, question authority
i would revise 1 to "turn
i would revise 1 to "turn off the computer and SMASH the tv"
This is sad
It is sad when a school cannot take care of this little problem. The girl is in the wrong but to bring the police into this matter. Unreal..... The principle should be fired and barred from all schools for not being able to handle this situation.
From the Trenches
As a full time substitute teacher I visit every school in the system and see the good bad and ugly. Once in a blue moon you will get a kid who just doesn't give a fly'n rats arse and will do as they please.... I try heaps of kindness and 99 percent of the time it works wonders. I approach each day assuming the love I send their way could be the only kindness they may see all day. Yelling... I figure they hear enough of at home. I know it works because the kids say hi and call out my name when I enter the school and as I walk the halls... a great feeling.
As to the girl who just would not stop texting... I've seen that mindset. My option is to call the office and write a referall... big deal they say, as they get several a week so where's the real incentive to improve ?
When someone does buck heads with me, I welcome the challenge. With a back ground in sales and advertising they are quickly chopped up and egos leveled. Many times they get so frustrated, and embarased with me unloading both verbal barrels at them rapid fire.. they many times just voluteer to leave class and escort themselves to the office on their own accord. LOL.
Personally.... school should end at 8th grade for a good many of the kids if they so choose too. My grandpappy graduated 6th grade only, and was one of the most accomplished wood craftsmen on the east coast.
And how about those teachers unions and slacky teachers.... that's a whole nother can of worms.

What was the violation? She finds Math a boring subject, did she back talk an agent of the state - is that the violation? It is rather amusing that the State considers a parent spanking a child to be abusive. Yet, intimidation, strip search and confinement, is the just and proper course.
Oh yes, we all bare witness to the superior parental abilities of our infallible God State. Bow to the blessed Empire as it tramples upon all beneath it.
We should stand naked?
Just ribbing you. I'm sure you meant "bear witness." Although, on second thought, perhaps baring our butts for the superior parental abilities of our God state is exactly what we ought to be doing.
LOL!
Well now, got to shock the system somehow... except they strip search so bare buns might be routine... Humm, maybe some ol' fashion tar and feathers would do the trick.
Me and my typos - thanks for the catch (& the laugh).
I was thinking the same thing.
arresting children for bad behavior? Unbelievable. Must have obedient future slaves. Must pay attention to your state indoctrination. We own you. Submit to the will of the police state. Can anyone say example. What is learned by children from this? What is learned is to bow to authority or else. This is why people are afraid to stand up. They are taught not to by intimidation and force. What next? Arresting children for whispering in class? This will stop when people grow some nads and start getting rid of the enforcers of the state by what ever means possible.
Do they shoot
Do they shoot you for cheating?

The girl should not have been texting in math class. Being arrested is a bit draconian, but I bet she won't do it again.
Being arrested for texting is also overkill. I think if I had been caught texting while in math class I would have been either given detention, sent to the principal, or given some silly assignment - such as writing "I will not text in class" 500 times.
You watch, some lame network will make a TV movie out of this, and the girl will become rich, appear on Oprah, then fall into drug use and die in the gutter in Baltimore, like Poe. Or not.
Should have
tasered the subversive scum.
If not us than who?
yes, being arrested by the police...
was way over the top. what ever happened to detention or being sent to the principles office?

WAHOR!!

YEAH!!! Hahahaha!!!
in every grade through 8th grade i had growing up at least one of the teachers had a large paddle hanging on the chalk board with holes drilled in it (so it would have less wind resistance and hit harder) and would not hesitate to use it. if the need arose that a paddling had occurred, the parents were then called and the parent, teacher, principle and student had a meeting to discuss it in the principles office. after school that student usually received another paddling at home!!!
ah, the good old days. but then, no one ever shot anyone at school. and that was when all the boys had hunting rifles in the gun wracks in their trucks or cars.

Fight Crime, Beat Your Kids
reminds me of a bumper sticker i saw a long time ago that said something along the lines of "fight crime, beat your kids"
