Transportation chief eyes taxing miles driven....via a GPS in every vehicle Fox, MSNBC

WASHINGTON - Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says he wants to consider taxing motorists based on how many miles they drive rather than how much gasoline they burn — an idea that has angered drivers in some states where it has been proposed.

Gasoline taxes that for nearly half a century have paid for the federal share of highway and bridge construction can no longer be counted on to raise enough money to keep the nation's transportation system moving, LaHood said in an interview with The Associated Press.

"We should look at the vehicular miles program where people are actually clocked on the number of miles that they traveled," the former Illinois Republican lawmaker said.

Boy you talk about Orwellian. I just love how they try to pass it off as something benign. "Oh the GPS will on send a signal one way, we won't track everyone's movement." YEAH Right. This scares me.

AJ had the man whose company makes these devices on ...

his show about 3 to 4 months ago. He said that his company was making theses devices for the govt and that they were making them to do exactly what the MSM is now reporting. I don't remember his name or the exact day he was on.

It's horrible see how quickly this type of technology is coming out of hiding and being prepared to be used to enslave us!

I wonder how long ago this company got their contract and how long before they got their contract had they been in the developmental phase of this device before it's unveiling?

This is stupid. Wear and tear on the road

occurs not merely according to how many miles you drive but how heavy your vehicle is when you travel those miles. Heavier vehicles use more gas, so it makes sense that should pay the most tax. A gasoline tax is probably the most fair tax in existence, because those who contribute to the most damage to the road pay most for the maintenance.

Why should state give the US governemnt road tax

for the US to give part of it back to the state to maintain Interstate and US highways. Abolish the Federal road use tax 42 cents per gallon. Let the state charge an extra 21 cents per gallon for new construction and maintenance and give the people a 21 cents per gallon break on fuel.
Big Brother wants to know where your at. Get thoses states rights going boys. Is it time for revolution yet?

Unbelievable!

unbelievable. Just chip us all, and feed us rations. It is past time. It pains me to say it but it is past time!

We need to fight this off

as desperately and with as much vigor as a gun ban. Same category. If this passes, we really can kiss any freedom goodbye. This CANNOT pass.
