Silver Is Again Outperforming Gold

0 votes

I am often asked whether I favor gold or silver as my preferred sound money. It is a difficult question, and perhaps comparable to asking a parent which child is his or her favorite. As we parents know, they are all wonderful, but perhaps in different ways because no two children are alike. So too with gold and silver.

Both gold and silver can accomplish the same objective. Physical gold and physical silver – in contrast to the numerous paper representations of these precious metals – are tangible and not financial assets, so their usefulness and therefore value is not dependent upon any one person’s, company’s or government’s promise.

Though the value of gold or silver does not come from governments and central banks, these authoritarians would like you to believe that the fate of all money rests in their hands. They can of course influence from time to time – and perhaps even for months or years at a time – the rate at which we exchange gold and silver for national currencies or goods and services. But the true value of each precious metal is only dependent upon the assessment given to it by the market, which comprises the multitude of people throughout the globe who are continually evaluating the usefulness of these metals.

Government interventions can cause gold and silver to trade at prices lower than they would in a free-market, as has been so thoroughly and carefully documented in the mountain of research compiled by the Gold Anti-Trust Action Committee, now celebrating its tenth anniversary (www.gata.org). But in the long-run, these market interventions cannot prevent gold and silver from rising when national currencies are being debased, as is evident by the fact that gold has risen against the dollar for eight years in a row.

Any comments on this idea? CEF

How about buying into the CEF fund from Canada. They own physical silver and gold at a fixed ratio, and when they add to the fund, they don't dilute existing shareholders, they add to the vault. I've been buying it through Sharebuilder.com for a while and it has performed exceptionally for me. My plan is to wait until inflation hits, sell my shares and pay off the house. I also own physical, but this is a nice way to buy in small increments and really dollar-cost average. Any thoughts?

I have both

but if I have to flee on foot, guess which one I'm carrying. (I'm leaving the fat kid behind ;-)

Everyone has their role and

Everyone has their role and makes their own choices. I am not selling silver right now eventhough I bought below $5, but I bought gold below $300 and now I am trading for what I believe is discounted palladium.

Right on SIERRA! Just bought some more last week, before

the last big up trend. Silver will be shinning brightly through this mess. Not Palladium right now. Silver is the checking account, and if we need to tap into it, we've got the silver!

I have no quarrel.

I just think that palladium has possibilities. It is selling today at 5 times lower than the price of gold. I am trading gold and buying palladium. Perhaps it will go to 6 times lower than the price of gold, I will sell more gold and buy more palladium. Silver may go to the moon, and gold may go to 5000 dollars an ounce, at some point there is a real value of palladium as well.
grant

yes.. i noticed that...

the charts show that Silver is no longer in a downtrend. it has now popped back above it's 200day moving average. so Silver is now back in an uptrend. Silver is now back above $14.50 an ounce

As you always say when gold drops.

Palladium is tanking, means time to buy, right?!!!
grant

grant... I just don't know

grant... I just don't know about palladium..
I think you are right, there are good things about all 4 metals.. gold, silver , platinum and palladium. I just feel silver and gold have a longer history.. just my thoughts. You have made good points about palladium. everything that applies to palladium applies to silver too.. so I guess its just ones preference.

Our financial analyst

is coming for dinner tonight, we'll be discussing which metals to move everything into. Silver looks good, any other suggestions? I had thought about rhodium, but it looks like the market will not come back in this economy.

go with what has a 5000 year

go with what has a 5000 year track record for being used as money.. I think you will get more bang for your buck with silver. ALSO DO NOT BUY THE ETF! buy physical and take delivery.
