Rand Paul May Run for Kentucky US Senate Seat

Kentucky Progress is reporting:

Congressman Ron Paul's son Rand is going to run for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. Jim Bunning if Bunning ultimately decides not to run, he said Thursday night.

The Houston Chronicle / AP has also picked the story:

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Yet another Republican is considering a run for U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning's seat.

The latest is Rand Paul, son of U.S. Rep. and former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul of Texas. He told The Associated Press on Thursday that he would consider entering the race, but only if Bunning drops out.

This is great news! Rand can most certainly count on our support should he decide to run.

not quite like father

i could never get behind someone that supports government stimulation of the economy. that's interventionism. what we need is someone who firmly believes in the separation of dollar and state!

he didn't really define what

he didn't really define what kind of stimulus he would support. Even Ron Paul has described a good kind of stimulus:

regulating/auditing the FED, cutting back on regulations, cutting overseas spending in half, and then putting half of that to infrastructure, and the other half to paying for domestic programs in order to allow other, younger people to opt out of them, and of course, cut taxes and spending.

my understanding is stimulus

my understanding is stimulus is when the government appropriates a portion of the economy to wherever it thinks it is needed. what ron is proposing is not stimulating via spending but stimulating via detyrannizing.

anyway, i'd like to hear it straight from the horse's mouth so i can clear up this issue.

He is playing to his constituents ...

Think about it ...

Can the gov. pass a stimulus package and balance the budget.

I think it was a smart move.

And he did it while still speaking the truth.

A statement that sounds like an alternative that includes government action, but in reality doesn't.

I think it was sheer genious.

He has come a long way.

I have not been a big fan of Rand, but this was excellent and I think it shows political savy.

He needs to go back and watch all of his PBS appearances and make sure he has a retort for the attacks to come.

He needs to be consiliatory, and change his stance on some issues, all the while, not really changing his position.

governments stimulating

governments stimulating economies still create boom and bust. malinvestment is malinvestment, whether it is done honestly via taxation or dishonestly via inflation.

when you pump money into something and create an economy where the market thinks it shouldn't exist, you create a bubble. if you do this enough, you create so many malinvestment bubbles that eventually you can no longer afford to support them (which is either bankruptcy or hyperinflation; two sides of the same coin). that's when the whole house of cards comes down and you wind up with recessions and depressions.

think of an example: entire towns built around military bases. what happens when times get tough and government has to cut back military spending? worse yet, what happens if they have to close a base?

governments should not appropriate or spend any more than is absolutely necessary for the protection of constitutional rights.

I know that ...

but Rand knows that such a proposed budget would be highly unlikely if not impossible ....

Don't you see that?

He gets to oppose all current packages while looking to have an alternative plan.

i guess i came down on him a

i guess i came down on him a little too hard. anyway, he's better than anyone else out there at the moment, and we need some ron paul types in both houses if we're going to get anything done.

now about arlen specter's seat....

the traitor trio

Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania. Susan Collins ran unchallenged in 08.
They have to be replaced by some decent people.

Interesting

We should continue to show support for Rand. It appears that his statement may serve to tell the GOP to back off trying to get Bunning to retire (whether that's his purpose or not).

Notice to the GOP: if you want a more compliant candidate to run, he'll be up against a candidate who has a nationwide Paulite backing.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

I'll donate time and money!

I live in Florida, but I promise, if Rand runs, I'll donate money and my time on the internet. I might even fly up to help if it looks close.

Rand is welcome in CT! There may be a certain movement to get Peter Schiff to run against that swine Chris Dodd, but I'd prefer Rand Paul as my Senator in this Connecticut Soviet Socialist Republic!

He actually has a better shot at the Senate ....

Since there will be no incumbent and ...

he has less work to establish a statewide campaign ...

Besides C4L ...

He has been heading another movement that has created some networks statewide.

Waaaahooo!

The Great Commonwealth of Kentucky should rejoice!

I too will go door to door in the mid-south region of kentucky..

I'll be waiting to hear what he does.

Come on with it. I'm in for

Come on with it. I'm in for money and will come from Texas to go door to door for him.

This is good news ....

I have been told that Bunning will ultimately decide not to run.

This means that Rand will be running.

Like I said in another thread, this is actually doable.

Kentucky will be a cheap state this go around ...

I hope Rand stays on message ...

He tends to ramble and when he rambles he comes accross as negative.

Even if he doesn't run

Even if he doesn't run because Bunning doesn't drop out of the race, this is excellent news because it shows that he is considering serving in public office. Perhaps he's mentioned it before, but this is the first that I've heard of it.

Fox/AP link doesn't work for me

Awesome news! I'm so excited!
Oh I sure hope he runs!
