Galt is an artist

My perspective of John Galt begins by telling you that I am a woman, like Ayn Rand, who was old enough to be my grandmother, thus, she lived in America when it was not easy for women to be strong without a mountain of weaker men collectively working to bring her down, after all, women were still stay at home Mom's for the most part, and there were plenty of stay at home Moms who also saw Ayn Rand as a threat to their security. Ayn called people like me, "The hippies on the right". She ws no fan of the hippies on the right anymore than she was a fan of the religious, whom she claims in, "Letters of Ayn Rand", Leonard Piekoff, if there was one thing she would do is stamp out religion, and she admits, given the choice between a facist and communist regime, she would prefer communist, because communists are more reasonable.

I read Atlas Shrugged in 1973. My father handed me his bent up paperback and said, "If you want to talk to me, read this so we can relate." I am an Objectivist, and I have my own opinion about Ayn Rand I would like to share with you:

I get this very strong idea that John Galt is an artist who learned from selling an engine he designed, that the government and corporations were corrupt, so he goes underground, where he finds the freedom to continue to create. When the lights go out in NY that is not going to stop John Galt because he is an artist who can create his life.. the stars are his limits. It is this message that seems most people who read Atlas Shrugged miss. Seems the tome is so large, "I finnished reading the book!" is the climax. No one really ever talks about who is John Galt. John Galts is the artists among us who are winners and KNOW we are winners. Ayn Rand reveals much of her philosophy about Atlas Shrugged in "Letters of Ayn Rand", which I would suggest to anyone who is interested in what Ayn Rand really thought.
