SANTA MONICA - A protest against rising local, state and federal taxes is planned from 9 to 10 Friday morning at the Santa Monica Pier.

What is dubbed the "Los Angeles Tea Party" will feature speakers, including actress Victoria Jackson, explaining "what can be done to get our voices heard that we're displeased with the budget, stimulus package and extra taxes we're going to bear because of the new budget," said Ashley Ingram, a Republican activist and one of the event's organizers.

The event is part of the "Nationwide Chicago Tea Party," which is urging members of Congress to "repeal all your irresponsible spending bills" or "we will retire you at the ballot box in 2010." It is organized by operators of the Top Conservatives on Twitter Web site.

There will be no actual dumping of tea into Santa Monica Bay because "we want to prove Republicans can be ecologically friendly," Ingram told City News Service.

The event comes a week after Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law an estimated $12.8 billion tax increase that he said was necessary to eliminate a projected $40 billion budgetary shortfall. The federal budget proposal unveiled Thursday called for increasing taxes on households earning more than $250,000 a year to provide for increased health care.

"We've had it with irresponsible politicians using us as an ATM," Ingram said. "Just like the average family, it's time for them to live within a a reasonable budget."

Good turnout. July will be very interesting.

What's the point if it's not even a real protest?

I mean you can't even dump tea into the water these days?

Wow, I bet the Elite are shaking.

As documented in the Aimee Allen video. One of at least a thousand.

I did not hear about this one.

G. Edward Griffin was there and spoke!

(The Ron Paul girl was there as well). When our enormous group marched up the Third Street Promenade I recognized casual observer and MSNBC lib commentator/West Wing TV show adviser Lawrence O'Donnell unhappily observing our huge numbers as we gleefully marched past him. I walked up to him, shook his hand, and announced that I was a former flaming lib and that I LOVED Ron Paul!

It was SO fun and I have awesome photos of the event.

Actually I would place the number of attendees more at several thousand.

I didn't hear about it either until

last night. It was said tea parties were planned for 50 cities. Too bad the publicity was poor, maybe it was better in local areas.

The first event was

The first event was partially organized through the Meetups. I personally don't use Meetup anymore, I rely on verifiable info available here or C4L.
