U.S. to Yield Marijuana Jurisdiction to States

(02-26) 20:00 PST San Francisco -- U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is sending strong signals that President Obama - who as a candidate said states should be allowed to make their own rules on medical marijuana - will end raids on pot dispensaries in California.

Asked at a Washington news conference Wednesday about Drug Enforcement Administration raids in California since Obama took office last month, Holder said the administration has changed its policy.

"What the president said during the campaign, you'll be surprised to know, will be consistent with what we'll be doing here in law enforcement," he said. "What he said during the campaign is now American policy."

How strange an argument will

How strange an argument will this be 20 years from now? How strange would it have looked 300 years ago. Why do governments continually try to legislate morality whilst allowing death, disfigurement and suffering to be cheered on by narrow minded people who have never suffered a day in their lives. bv

Better than it NOT being

Better than it NOT being legal and at least it is up to the state and not the federal government.. People can control the state government much easier.

Thats because the lost a Federal District Court Case

That said Federal Marijuana Laws do NOT circumvent or override state law. And it is not the job of the Federal Government to enforce state laws..

2006...City of Garden Grove..

This Small Victory was the Result of SACRIFICE and was paved on the backs of many victims of the war on cannabis sativa.

This was after some Roque Cali police officers decided they didn't like medical marijuana and called the FEDs in to raid them.

Reverend Eddy Lepp who gave medical marijuana away for no money to sick cancer patients was arrested.

His sentencing was Feb 23rd. I don't know what He got. But he is facing many years in prison . He completely obeyed the law, but some self righteous person in a state office disobeyed state law showing their lack of compassion and integrity.

Yet, still PEOPLE ARE GOING TO PRISON FOR THIS SMALL VICTORY...

Maybe not

He's going to appeal his religious rights case and make another and I'm betting he's going to get less than the 10 year mandetory min. (which many of my friends did, it killed some RIP Peter McWilliams").

Over 32K plants is going to be hard for any judge to wave Eddy free

this is good

Don't be fooled folks, just

I'm a toker but don't be fooled folks, just a feel good ploy. This is a Holder quote in the article:

"The president believes that federal resources should not be used to circumvent state laws" and expects his appointees to follow that policy, Schapiro said.

Thats a load of crap.

I don't think so

Medial marijuana is legal where I live, and every year it's an issue on the ballot one way or the other. I think they are going to legalize it, and it will be very expensive to be legal... like fishing.. a license isn't cheap. So there will be farms that make huge legal profits and allot of people who get busted because they did not grow legally.

I don't think it's a feel good ploy. I think it's a capital way to bail CA out of debt.

No need to tax

It would be foolish to tax a plant you can easily grow in your backyard. If you want to sell it, let your state decide. Why should the state tax anything you grow in your backyard for self-consumption, ie., tomatoes, chickens, pigs, cattle, pot, etc.

I'm holding my breath hoping Arnold will sign it.

Arnold continues to flout the will of the people of CA

Only if his handlers OK it

Only if his handlers OK it

Read 'tween the lines

"What the president said during the campaign, you'll be surprised to know, .......What he said during the campaign is now American policy."

Translation: You'll be surprised because he is actually taking actions to do what he promised during the campaign.... unlike FISA, gitmo, Iraq, Bush Administration.
